Thanks guys. Truly a great song. Best wishes. David Fielding. Guitar ,keyboards. Dulcimer, banjo, mandolin, digeridoo etc. Best wishes. The Chameleons. Mark,. Dave, Reg and John. Xxxx
Thanks David, glad we stumbled upon your EPIC band! Much Love!
Good to see The Chameleons getting some love. Such an underrated band.
The two guitarists have an amazing understanding of what Keith Richards calls, "the ancient art of guitar weaving". They have an uncanny knack of dropping in and out of each others riffs, creating complex interlocking guitar parts and dreamy harmonies.
Those two guys opened my eyes to what you could do if you went outside the lead+rhythm box. Great stuff.
I’ve been a fan of these guys since their first album ‘Script of the Bridge’ which I consider to be the greatest album ever recorded by anyone ever. I actually have the intro to Swamp Thing as my ringtone. I also have One of John Lever’s snare drums which he sold to raise money for charity, it’s signed by John and Dave Fielding. I’m proud say I have been friends with all of these guys. I still live in Middleton.
I have one of John's drumskins, splattered with his blood from a gig in Germany. He was a good mate and he is very much missed
Cool..
Second skin is a beauty to react to,smashing you guys are opening up chameleons rabbit hole, excellent
This band are a truly great gem. So many classic songs and Script of the Bridge should be in everyone's collection .
Such an underrated band and a band that I have just had the pleasure of seeing for the first time. They are awesome and have an awesome fanbase. We are all Chameleons!
This section of their album aids in hypnotism. Underrated is an understatement. I’ve seen it first hand. This isn’t just music, it’s an artifact that nobody quite understands but psychologists and perhaps even religious scholars will be studying in secret for a very long time. I don’t think this info will ever become very public. I only know of this because I have a friend who has a sister who is a psychological genius. Mark Burgess said himself that this album was a thought experiment.
Great band from a great period in British music, the late 70s early 80s, there was such a huge variety of great, or at least interesting, stuff out there. You had synth-pop bands like Flock of Seagull, post-punk bands like The Comsat Angels (Independence Day) or Echo & the Bunnymen (Villiers Terrace, Pictures on My Wall), Irish bands like Microdisney (Loftholdingswood), Punk bands like Angelic Upstarts, Punk Poets like John Cooper Clarke (Evidently Chickentown), Two Tone Ska bands like The Specials (A Message to You Rudy), old reliables like Bowie and Kate Bush, Smooth Soul singers like Sade (Frankie's First Affair), weird stuff like The Fall, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry or the Cocteau Twins, Trotskyite Skinhead bands like The Redskins , and so many more. Something for everyone, and always something new like you'd never heard before.
Check out the Chameleons other tracks 'Don't Fall' or 'Second Skin'
I had no idea people were reacting to Chameleons... and what a belter to begin with. I used to dance to this at The Ritz on Whitworth Street in Manchester on Mondays and Wednesdays, it was an instant fave and continues to be to this day. I had a stint on student radio in Manchester in 1991 and crammed as much Chameleons into my show as I could get away with 🙂
Great to see Dave from the band commenting on this too.
Yeah, I have many memories of dancing to this in the Ritz and the alternative night at Jillys rockworld.
I used to enjoy Monday's Indie night. Mark always played this near the end of the night. That was back when I had an 8" double mohawk...now I'm bald and have to settle for a Lohawk (beard) 😂😉
If you loved this, you absolutely must check out their song "Soul in Isolation".
The words 'haunting' and 'beautiful' describe it perfectly.
The Chameleons might just be the best band hardly anyone has heard of.
Saw them a couple of days ago. Awesome band.
Same I saw them at the parish Huddersfield and they were amazing!
An experience that will stay with me forever!
You didn't though did you. You maybe saw Burgess, Reg and whoever wannbes but not the Fab4. The Chameleons were Burgess, Reg,The great and lovingly missed John Lever and myself. They are not The Chameleons! Hope you are well and happy but speak honestly if you are gonna post stuff. David. Best wishes.
@@davidfielding1369 - Hi Dave, i hope you are doing well! Cheers from across the pond.......
@@davidfielding1369well said Dave…….Do you remember Homeland…..Suite 16..?.i was the drummer…..Hope your well & happy.
first chameleons reaction ive seen floating about. awesome band.
Coming from Middleton myself these were the soundtrack to much of my (misspent) youth.
Great find! Try "up the down escalator", "Second skin" "looking inwardly"
Nostalgia by the chameleons is amazing
Good call 📞!
Was just gonna comment that myself.
And in this case, Nostalgia IS what it used to be.
This was part of the soundtrack of my youth! Dancing (and smooching!) away in the murk of the Twisted Wheel in Carlisle (RIP). Like a time machine this instantly took me right me back....one of my favourites of the time for sure.
For me this tune will forever mean Wednesday nights at Wigan Pier night spot circa 1994. Chameleons. Best band nobody ever heard of.
"Don't bore us get to the chorus"... Perfect
80s was a great time for UK based indie bands: The Fall, Wedding Present, My Bloody Valentine (yes I know), Jesus and Mary Chain....and on and on
Killing Joke definitely need more than a mention. Everything up to 'Night Time' and after 'Extermities ...' that is.
Classic Manchester band! So underrated and what a fkcing tube, eh kds? One of the best ever. MIDDLETON!!
For some reason, I also rank very high the line 'now the storm has come, or is it just another shower ?'
It's a simple line but it is so beautiful.
The mail system lost my Chameleons live performance in 1983, an original cd, still sealed. I hope they find out because I have tracking number on it.
Probably my favourite 80's band, got everything they did on vinyl. I prefer the earlier stuff. If you fancy some more of The Chameleons try Second Skin live from Camden Palace 1985.
Dont Fall and Second Skin are also other great songs they got, this band are brilliant and yes crimnally underrated band, bands like Interpol, The Fall were influenced by them.
Only underrated by people who don't matter in my opinion. Corporate entities ( Swamp Thing)
My all time favourites,,love the chameleons ever since hearing John peel sessions, glad your reacting to them, brilliant
Loved your reaction. Great to hear this band appreciated. I fell in love with the the Chameleons and saw then at the Ritz in NYC in 1987. They open with this song.
Now Northside ‘Let’s take a trip!’ That will having you grinning ear to ear……
Anyone remember Granada Soccer night?
This was my jam back in my 80’s teens
Loved this group from day one upon the first release here in the states. Have all the original albums and cds including the variants of the group such as Sun and the Moon. The album Script of the Bridge was printed as a white sleeve wrapped in yellow cellophane. Still even have the wrapper I love this group so much. Even have a Strange Times post card from the group. The band is THE most underrated group of all time. Just discovered the channel guys and I’m loving your choices. If I may indulge a request? Check out the group Dredg and a song called Bug Eyes or the song Same ole Road. You will love them trust me.
TRUST ME!
I love the build of the intro of song.
"Don't fall" is great also👍👍👍
Wow, how have I missed this reaction - great find guys....so much absolutely top as it comes stuff from this band.....please cover more if you get the chance.....maybe an album? (Chancing my arm) Script of the Bridge....Second Skin from that or 2nd album Wat does Anything Mean Basically.....so many but would love to hear your take on In Shreds.....an earlier song that found it's way onto that album.......
Love this unscripted response. It could bridge any gap. You were up on the escalation of the intro (not down); some don't fall for the amazing Chameleons (though they tend to be less than human). Musically, this is about as high as you can go. I'm almost in tears that more people don't realise this (though they are intrigued in Tangiers), maybe the truth isn't truth anymore? But you guys recognised the miracles and wonders of this band/song. I'll remember this video for a long time.
It'll be a fair old Time before they hear enough back catalogue to appreciate how clever your post was, though they'd be in Tears, I'm sure, after Looking Inwardly at your comment. Kudos my friend! Sorry it was a weaker effort than yours but you did take some great options off the table.. 😂😉
Was there back in the day and still sounds just as fresh and amazing
Spot on reaction, lads. Agree with everything you said.
Best song you’ve ever reacted to.
Phenomenal song. Manchester, England, was THE place to be in the '80s!
Phew! Glad you liked it 🤣
Top tune. Loved this since it came out. I've got Tears on 12" vinyl still.
How could they not?
"Half Alive in a 9 to 5, vacant eyes..."
Hi
I'm the only Frenchman who knows and loves the Chameleons UK ( my fellow countrymen are musically hopeless )
you re right : UNDER RATED genius !!!!!!!
I always felt this band was the missing link between The Smiths and The Stone Roses
You want an intro? Check out the band Ride and their song “Leave them all behind” album version from 1992……..and play it loud!
Hi guys, I haven't checked back on your videos but I just wanted to give you a heads up that Miriam Margoyleyes autobiography is now available and is also on Audible. As I'm sure you boys know, she is explicitly honest and very literate and is a totally exceptional woman x This Much is true is the name of her book. Btw, please encourage all your followers to buy or download the book because it will help Miriam in her retirement.
Not that you'll even see this comment as it won't show up, the Chameleons were played a lot in alternative/Indie clubs back in the day.
Just a reminder - there's far more to music than poxy bloody oasis.
It showed up alright, now to get a few more likes to keep it here 😂😂
I'm going to dig out some of my Chameleons albums I haven't listened to in well over 25 years. 'Perfume Garden' and 'Don't Fall' were a couple of my favourite tracks. And then there's Kitchens of Distinction who took the baton from the Chameleons.
Will also dig out some Swervedriver who were on the Creation label well before those plagiaristic mouthy Mancs.
Seen and appreciated Chris P!
Great band! A cult classic!!! Do you guys know Future Islands? They are about to support Noel Gallagher. Their performance of Seasons on Letterman is awesome
I have the first pressing of Script of the bridge from 1983 on Statik records signed by Mark Burgess (vox) and Reginald Smithies (guitar).
Great band.
Don't Fall
Second Skin
Up the down escalator
View from a hill
A person isn't safe anywhere these days
Nathan's phase
Singing rule britannia (as the walls close in).
they have much better songs than Swamp thing.. but it is a good solid song 🎵. - C
I suggested this as a good starting point. Script of the Bridge is my favourite of their albums though
Travis-Why Does It Always Rain On Me🎶
@ live 8, 2005, Murrayfield Stadium Edinburgh 50,000
Suck this! A mile up the road from The Chameleons, in Oldham were the 'Inspiral Carpets..' ''She comes in the Fall''.
Get the live version with the troupers...It's ACE Man!
It's almost as if they rise to stardom now 40 years later.....
This is great I haven't heard this in years but guys if you like this you have to have a listen to the Cocteau Twins. Love from Derbyshire.
Try Comsat Angels(What Else?)and have a real good journey too.
The Chameleons will be at The Black Cat in WDC 17 Aug 2024
slowdive - alison.... u guy can fly
Try listening to Doves - another great Manchester band from Northenden, just a mile or two from the Gallagher's neighbourhood in Burnage. Start with Black and White Town and go from there. Complex structures - great musicians.
two more Manchester bands working now: Ist Ist
Slow Readers Club
You guys should review Wake Up by Arcade Fire live at Glastonbury 2014. Awesome track
Can you do a reaction for The Chameleons - Denims and Curls
Perphas the best band to never hit the big time…..,Soul in Isolation , please.
Turn this one up to *11
React to Joy division if you haven't already
Check out Gorillaz' Stop The Dams. Probably the most underrated song of all time.

Influencers of their time.
Noel Gallagher has cited these guys as massive influence on him.
Maybe that’s why Noel’s song are drab. 🤣
can't see it myself... sounds NOTHING similar to Oasis in the slightest.
Stopped the song during the best bit..
