- What is the best farm layout? How to setup a farm effectively?
My tutorials and how to guides are aimed at new players, who may have skipped the in game tutorial or found issue with the same. This game has many hidden features, and I aim to show you all of them.
WR:SR is an amazing sandbox city/republic builder, that allows you to control all aspects of your new country, from citizens happiness, health, education to production chains, vehicle and resource production, import export. You can do all this by truck, train, ship, and in the near future plane. There are a million ways to make your republic your own and that’s what we will do.
I just started this channel, and I hope you enjoy the content. I’m also active on:

HAVE FUN! - Hry
Very informative! Everything explained clearly, and, most important, using small words :)))
Small words is exactly what you need to use if you want someone with a soviet bear on their avatar to be able to understand.
Nice, last tutorial about farms was little bit confusing. Well done
Thanks for the tip in assigning!
Thanks for the help 👍
A video on best coal / mining set up would be great
Awesome! This is great!!! 😊
Hello bballjo, I have a tutorial suggestion! What about an updated version of this farming tutorial. Many things have changed as we now have fertility, fertilizing process, fertilizer and new farms. I think that would require a new tutorial. Especially with regards to efficiency and potential ideal setups. There is this one spreadsheet/excel sheet where one can calculate an optimal agriculture setup, (I think it is called "Farm calculator for dummies" and it is available on steam) however this sheet does not take into consideration the process of fertilizing and so on. Thanks for your work!
Several tutorials need to be revisited because of many changes...this is just one of them, but remaking them while things are still changing won't make much sense.
i know a certain CZcamsr who used your information and did not give credit where credit is due, but acted like he is smart. Very good video TY
Wanna spill the beans? I have a guess;)
Nice 1 man 🙌
Nice setup.
Very nice tutorial as crops is always the latest thing I reach independent economy, so I make all things myself but crops is auto buy for the food factory and others that demand it
Autobuy? Why not import it yourself?
@@bballjo Correct, that is actually middle solution - as now I have a tip how to make it max efficient I think it's more fun to make all myself. For the next projects I will consider your idea, but sometimes border is very far away and you need actual crops input right after you start the game as essential resource for your workers (food).
Idk what is the "correct" way of playing, but at start I usually go with power plant, heating plant, coal ore processing. Later I add steel mill, iron ore processing and mining and i'm starting by producing the most expensive resources (steel, food, meat), while autobuying cheap ones (such as coal ore, bricks, prefab panels, crops) ofc starting close to border with source of coal and iron nearby). When I reach population about 5000-6000, city starts earning quite a lot, by exporting surplus of steel, meat, alcohol, food and it's being more and more efficient at earning money (agrocomplex does not need many workers).
But I have major problem with construction industry, it's a major pain in the a.. ... it produces cheap products that are difficult to distribute and demand is far from being constant. Cement factory running at 10% of capacity is perfectly fine, but distribution of concrete, asphalt, gravel and bricks to constructions 2km far away is an issue and I feel like it's easier to autoconstruct stuff - you don't have to wait one year for industrial complex to complete and it starts earning money one year earlier.
jeez this is massive setup i only have 1 field with 2 silos for my first farm and not train, but i guess this makes sense for big production
1 field only produces 300t...so 2 silos are definitely too much for that.
Very good
I copied your design; everything worked as intended, with one problem - harvesting was not finished by late November when it started to snow. I guess the reason must be those terrible tractors that are the only ones available if you start in 1960.
Did anyone have an aswer for this problem? I also have the same problem when winter arrives. (i have not get far enough to buy better tractors). I also guess for the tractors. I have i faint memory that bballjor said so but can not find the video where he says so.....
You can still harvest during the snow...the Fields just die early December. It's better to get most of a field harvested by December, than keeping your vehicles idle before November...
How many covered hulls would you use in this example? And how do you select multiple buildings and copy them? I can't drag a square and select multiple buildings.
I am pleased to say i have used your train set up and loving it! 24 farms is working great till about 9000 pop, im at 15000 people now and will have to add another set up like this one!! just upsetting that it seems most of my map will be filled with farms!!... i am wondering.. seeing as you answer most of my questions.. what is your final population at so called end game
The final population is determined only by your hardware...I rarely go bigger than 100k, but I've seen republic 4-5x bigger than that
@@bballjo Wow that is crazy... i would imagine with a population like that.. you are most definitely not able to feed them all from your crops! or am i wrong
@@bballjo at this point in my game i am trying to produce everything myself,,, and trying not to buy anything at all from the border.... i am thinking with a population that great.. it would seem impossible to do because of map size....
The republic is indeed not able to sustain enough fields for the population that fits if you play vanilla only...but that is true for any republic, either you produce enough crops that export, but that is you main export or you import crops because you have concentrated on more sophisticated products....there is still a challenge with logistics of importing enough to make it work.
@@bballjo You have sealed the deal in my mind in this case.. i thank you again
Can you put the link for the thirty minute test video in the description? Or here? I couldn't find it in your videos list and I think my mobile viewing prevents me from seeing the link properly.
Hello bballjo. I am currently playing with the current beta branch. If you have time, could you please do a tutorial about the optimal farm setup with the new vanilla farm (big)? This farm has a daily production of 10 tons of crops and can manage 30 vehicles. That brings me to the next question:
If the large farm building has 30 vehicle slots, can several tractors and combine harvesters work one field? With your setup (per tractor and combine harvester per season) 16 ha (3x large field + 1x medium field) can be cultivated. In the steam workshop, however, there are now fields of over 50 hectares in size. That would be all interesting to know. I didn't find anything about it in the game's changelogs or I didn't see it.
Farms haven't changed...the best ratio is still 1 tractor to 1 harvester, and each harvester can harvest 1 medium field and 3 large fields before winter. The original vanilla farm has 12 slots...the big vanilla now can just handle 15 of each... driving time will matter more now, and I would recommend using the medium farm instead of the large farm, unless you use faster vehicles.
@@bballjo I believe they have changed now since update 0.8.5.13. Most believe it's no longer necessary to use DO's for farms as multiple trucks will now go to fields.
I have a request. How to sell trains you made yourself at borderpost? loco´s, wagons and emu/ dmu. Perhaps cars and trucks to? Keep up the good work. Greets Tascha
All vehicles after you make them, are in mint condition. For trains you can tow them with another train to the border to sell like any other cargo. Cars and trucks can be loaded onto flatbeds or stake cars, then same thing.
I see. Must this happen always from the factory? Or can thise also happen from a depot? After you used theme. Like a 2de hands? Because whene i moved my train from factor to depot for space it only shows the loading for passengers . Tascha
Directly from the factory, or attached storage only.
@@bballjo thx for the great help :)
Coool
You can easy use 15 big fields with 1 big farm when you boost it with a logistic office to bring crops into a silo wich is connected to a train station
Thanks! How many trucks one needs for the distribution centres?
5
@@bballjo 5 each?:)
I saw a lot of people share my questions about the new farms. Is it possible you could do a new tutorial or a small amendment to this one?
But there is no difference? The original fame is the same size as the medium farm...the ratios are all the same, because only the driving distance matters...
@@bballjo Thank-you, really appreciate your quick responses on here. For now I will stick with medium farms, I'll have a look at the big farms later
Now that there are 3 farm types, have you done any testing to see if there is a more efficient farm setup?
The size of the farm is meaningless...it's all about speed and driving distance.
First time I build a farm so I copied your setup but...
In the video you say that one can put gas stations on each side so vehicles do not have to go all the way "home" to refuel.
I did that but the tractors are just passing them and goes back to the farm for refueling (I am still sowing so I do not know what the other vehicles will do),
Each gas station has road connection, power and fuel. Any suggestions ?
BTW I have learnt a lot from your videos so thank you for making them. :-)
Well...they should refuel. What power source do they have?
@@bballjo The gas stations ? Electricity. Substations say Estimated Max 10% of 2.5 MW.
Right now I am stuck at trying to convince a Construction Office to build a road so harvesting has not yet started.
But what is the source of electricity...the substation only tells you the potential numbers...if the gas station doesn't actually receive power when the vehicle needs fuel, the station will be skipped.
@@bballjo The source is a coal power plant - the big one that comes with the game (vanilla ?). There is plenty of power so I am exporting more than half of it. I had some issues with worker shortage in the beginning (months ago, game time) but now it is always working. I will continue tomorrow and see what happens when the harvesting season start. It is a very good game but there are many small things that need to be polished - trains are a pain in the ass...
You know that I don't agree with that...it's just a huge learning curve, continuously;)
What farm are you using here? A mod? I tried a modded agro-farm (V2), but it doesn't have the ability to hold fuel.
I only use vanilla in the tutorials...however, they added 3 sizes of farms a while ago, and they replaced the original farm, which you see here.
Need power for this.
My tractors went to sow the first 6 fields, and then came back to the farm.
With no power, the gasoline refueling on the farm did not work......
Also, might as well attach a food factory to this after all this work.
He says you need power for the farms and the distribution offices at the end of the video so you can refuel.
htf do you set up a asphalt factory, I can't get it to work for nothing and seems pretty messed up
Is it telling you what's missing?
@@bballjo it was but i tried several ways to feed it by truck unload and by pump jacks straight from oil factory and still said bit was missing so I just bought some bit and then it said I have no storage for it, I looked through every tab and did not see anything for storing asphalt
Lol, you literally just mixed 3 completely different resources...pump jacks produce oil, oil refinery produces fuel and bitumen, asphalt plant uses bitumen to produce asphalt, asphalt cannot be stored.
@@bballjo so how do you transfer bitumen then, it transfers through the jacks to the train to sell it
sorry I said jacks (which pump oil out of the ground) I meant pipes and motors or whatever they are but I got it figured out now
Could you also show that it works. Not that I dont trust you but would be nice to see if you saved the map.
Also, check the link at the end, that's the full 30 min test...I failed to mention that in the video:/
All the yugoslav farms combined.
I set up everything as you show it here. Crops are harvested laying on the fields, but the trucks from the Offices won't start. They're just standing there doing nothing. What could I have missed?
I even assigned the silos as unload targets. Still nothing happens.
Are there crops to pickup on the fields? Is the silo 90% full? Do they have fuel? Are you using the correct trucks? Is the game paused? Have you looked at error messages?
@@bballjo there are tons of harvested crops on the fields. on some fields there is even the new seed.
Silos are empty as they arejust freshly built.
I am using closed Skd 706.
I have fuel on the offices and a gas station nearby.
There are no error messages on the offices.
And of course I have let the game run for a while.
Are your DO settings correct for unloading at silos/station and loading on the field plus correct percentages? Do the trucks actually have fuel in the tank? I wouldn't mind taking a closer look... just post it on my discord or on steam
@@bballjo found the mistake. I had source buildungs set at 90% at the offices
I know the ads are a silly thing to comment on but Disney you are trying to sell little girl toys to the wrongest possible demo, here
but, does this actually work?
Did you check the linked test video?
@@bballjo Where is this video you're talking about? I don't see any links in the description...
It was probably a card in the video when I mentioned it...
so this isi 2 yrs old, ok.
You know I find your episodes very informative so lets glide over "I love your videos"...
This one... Meahhhhh
- It is not an A to Z for sure More like a C to L...
- With your special menus I have no idea where to get that "silo" or anything else, because I do not have you "special menu" windows. So I think you should work from what we all have; the basic menu, from the game original setup.
- Small distribution offices are not available when you start the game (only free dirt ones), there's some "research" needed, we do not know where that research is supposed to be done and so the video ends there or we try with the free ones and see what happens. But then the free offices have a limit (5) so we are screwed in other parts of the game.
- Then the harvesting, the trucks needed so the yield do not stay in the fields.
- from the distribution offices, nothing to be done? Trucks? what kind? where do they need to go?
...
There is a LOT of info missing and ...
I think you might want to retitle your episodes for advanced who wants to get better and "newbie" who just want to get started.
- You seems 'rushed' doing the videos, maybe relax and enjoy sharing?
- Your train station actually never goes anywhere and is actually blocked by the farm on one side so obviously not the best set-up.
Cheers,
a.
