I’m so pissed this is probably some stunt to force people to upgrade to the PS5 we’ll surprise some people don’t have $500 especially not these days. I just spend $100 fixing my ps4 2 weeks ago because it had an overheating issue just to not be able to play it because of this botched “update” smh more like virus. Love wasting the $100 just to not be able to play it. I was about to try and save up for the new system but if their going to do this to force people to buy it I’ll switch to Xbox. Still got my old 360 which guess what? Works perfectly fine smh.

For OG PS4's! For me it was completely related to the Power Supply and/or to the Ribbon connector underneath it. Cause without a working disc reader my OG PS4 would NOT update until the very second I reconnected everything. No new parts needed.

i took mine apart ti reapply thermal paste and i either damaged the cable or didnt connect it well cause my CD drive dosent work atm and now i cant update.
will try repairing/replacing the ribbon cable and reporting back.
@colbi mitchell I hope so, if not the ribbon than it's the power supply box. It has these two prongs that are tricky to get back in.

I just opened it up and cleaned it's fan

After that I put all of it back
Turned it on
Went in the safe mode and updated the software and it worked.

Guys.. I spent 2 days trying to sort it out, I've tried everything but nothing works. Finally I decided to open up my ps4, cleaned it thoroughly watching some other videos on CZcams and it worked like a charm🎉❤
I just wanted to say thank you you came in clutch I was going to sell my PlayStation and I was giving up but I came to yo video and I was like man I hope he got some thing that’s going to help me get my PS4 working again I tried 123 and then I rebuilt my database and I didn’t even work. I gave it one whole night. I didn’t touch it I didn’t touch it ! So, if all my Homies out there, stop touching your shit, leave it alone for a night then rebuild that bitch in the morning gang gang.
For the last update I used a flash drive to download the update manually from their website. Then uploaded it to the ps4. First I saved all my stuff on a flash drive, then issued a second flash drive to load it on to the ps4 and it worked for me. But again I have the same problem. Might have to try it again

Going into safe mode, selecting #3, and downloading via internet worked for me! Only took 5 min or so. Back up and running just fine! Thank you!!!

when i try to update the software using internet it updates it to 100% and the ps4 just turns off and back to the same screen.. when i tried to reset to default it says an error has occurred and when i try to rebuild data the ps4 once again just turns off.. Surely they r gonna fix it soon cuz nothing works

Nothing worked until I tried this. Go to settings-system-automatic downloads- make sure all options are enabled, especially system software updates. Then put your ps4 in rest mode. It should update while in rest mode. Good luck dudes.

This doesn’t work if you can’t use your controllers to get back to the main screen or detect it.
@@nathanh7593 reset that mf. I unplugged the power cord. I know its not healthy for my ps4 but It put me back in safe mode and rebuilt the database. Brought me to main screen. When it asked me to update the system now or later I chose later so I could switch the system settings.

If all solutions fail look for the dvd 24 pin connector ribbon to the motherboard if one of the 2 plastic secure ribbon is broken(blue horn shape) , break the other one and connect it back it will work fine.

No matter what I try, everything gets blocked by the same error code su-42118-6. My disc drive was working fine before the (attempted) patch. Not sure why PS4 becomes completely unusable because the disc drive is supposedly "broken"...
I get the error code CE-35888-2 and the error code CE-43461-8 whenever I try to System software update. I’ll rebuild database through safe mode and even system software update through safe mode and encounter the same problem.
3-4 months ago I got this gut feeling that one day my PS4 Slim that i’ve had since 2017 will completely give up on me, because in the past I had an issue where I had to go through safe mode to update system software and thankfully worked, but unfortunately this time around it didn’t.
I am hard wired and it still gives me problems. Lucky the 3-4 months ago I went with my gut making an investment purchase, ordering a gaming PC that was about $1850 tax included which was about 50% off original price so I found it to be a HUGE steal as Computer parts you can never buy individually and I wanted the pre built due to not having computer knowledge.
All my games on PC run way over 60fps on max graphic settings and COMPLETELY beats PS4 graphics by a huge difference. I do not regret my decision as I am fed up spending $70 worth of money that I don’t have a month so I can play games online for the excuse of free games that are always something awful like Lego or something.
PlayStation and Xbox seriously fell off. When they started comparing PS5’s as “The strength of an Average gaming PC”, I expected an actual competitor against windows computers with a full out Browser which PS5’s didn’t even have browsers unlike the PS4, and only now they solely allow PS5 to do Discord calls and leave PS4 players with nothing when they said years ago PlayStation would get Discord just to drop a stupid feature that tells discord users what game you’re playing.
Also someone bypassed PS5 to open a browser on the console and access the debug menu which they aren’t aloud to do, implying hacks could totally get implemented to the console. I was also informed for at least PS4, once the Online trophy system is shutdown, stops working, or gets shutdown by hackers; it will render your console completely useless and make it no more than an expensive paperweight.
Nobody should ever roll the dice again on a new console. You can never beat the best. PC’s will thrive way better just like how people eventually gotta give in and Buy Netflix or Disney+ because they have EVERYTHING. If things skyrocket in price, it’s nothing we could control because these underdog companies are incompetent and don’t know how to please communities

ive been doing the same steps since the update. try it with usb wont find update try using the internet option it would run through all steps till after install and give a SU error. after doing the same steps the same way daily it finally updated. did all the step on the safe mode list like 20 times haha fuck these updates hope yours acts right evemtually

Looks like you dont have experience about pc gaming,believe me my gaming is now nearly 15 years.i play almost all time with pc gaming.but the truth is pc have more performance issues than consoles.console have solid framerates with great optmization.but if you switch to pc gaming upgrading become a ritual in every year.because pc gaming is pretty expensive.developers always optmized their games to latest hardwares.they dont care about your payments in fast two or three years.

I've tried everything, downloaded the update onto a USB, tried safe mode options, tried the update during rest mode, it's still not working... I swear I'll go to Xbox if this is a push for the ps5..... Seems abit Sus that none of the options work..
Upgrade your ps4 hard drive cause your old hard drive might be corrupt or is out of space for the update

Not sure if y’all know this but you gotta have a specific data cable that came with your PS4 in order to use your controller! I was able to find mine and my controller worked. Just thought this might help some of y’all. 😊

I solved this problem, if you have a damaged Blu-ray drive you won't install the new update 10.50... I fixed the Blu-ray drive and finally I was able to install the update.

My ps4 is no longer able to read disks. I saw a video saying that if the blue ray drive is not working it be the cause of the problem. I've tried the solutions in the video. Any idea if that could be a possibility 🤔 ??
My disk drive was unplugged, and the update wouldn't work. But I plugged it back in via the ribbon cables and the update worked fine. Hope that helps!
Unfortunately nothing explained in this video worked for me. I am able to start the console and go into the user, but I order to use anything I need to run the update, which leads me back into the issue. The update fails upon installation and restart and I get the error

A solution that worked for me was taking my console to my friend's house and updating it there worked for some reason. For some reason connecting your console to another source will work.

That option screen doesn't show up for me. It just immediately looks for a USB, I have an update in one it's plugged in but it tells me it can't find the update

Guys, try to get the BD-Ribbon out of the console and clean and check the pins. Clean the with a piece of textile each. Then try to stick the brighter pin (with the bright sticker to the Driver connection and the black one in the motherboard unit. Pay attention that they're holding strong into the pins. This way helped me out outta this shit. Good luck fellas.
How do I clean the pins and inside cause I ripped my ribbon connector and I think the ripped part might still be inside with the pins plz

Thank all for sharing ways to fix it. On my end nothing worked at first so I opened the top. Cleaned up the dust and the bd lens with Qtip dipped in alcohol.
Update still failed.
After reading a post here I tried the safe mode update. (Didn't dind't try after cleaning).... this work. PS4 lives again! FU sony!

Bruh this just happened to me today before i went to work. Game was running well, i accedanlty unplug my ps4 and boom this bs update crap wont leave. Its (only) giving me an option to try a USB device wtf.
All methods didn't work try #1 to #5 3 time did not work. Force to #6 and #7 download update to USB same error code comes up both Fat32 and exFat. 2days and still no fix update from them. I swear if I loose my in came progress/base decay because of this phone access/emoji bullsht update I'm switching to Xbox as a loyal PlayStation sense was a kid this is Always Sony downfall pulling strings when everyone PlayStation was working perfectly fine.
