HANOI, VIETNAM - Welcome to Hanoi, Vietnam, and there’s an abundance of delicious Vietnamese food to eat, but one dish I have to eat every time I’m in Vietnam is Cha Ca, or Cha Ca La Vong!
It was invented in Hanoi, Vietnam, originally at a restaurant called Cha Ca La Vong in the Old Quarter. The dish includes fish marinated in turmeric and lemongrass, then grilled. It’s then served on your table and sauteed with oil, turmeric, and a heaping mountain of green onions and dill. The combination of fried and grilled fish and fresh herbs is outstanding. You eat it together with bun, or rice noodles, shrimp paste or Vietnamese fish sauce.
Although I didn’t go to the original one this trip, I went to Chả Cá Anh Vũ which is one of the best rated local places to try it. It’s a Vietnamese food you don’t want to leave Vietnam without trying.

As a Viet, I genuinely love this video. Chả cá Lã Vọng is among the best of our traditional dishes but it is way underrated. Not many foreign youtubers, magazines, ads, or TV shows ever mention it. 😢
Mùa này mà ăn chả cá lã vọng xong uống bia là phải gọi là thiên đường
Em la chua an hanh la . Ngon qua . Cap nhat dia chi len anh . O Ha noi -Viet Nam .
chắc là do cái mắm khó ăn nên hầu hết không ăn được chứ món này với bún đậu mắm tôm nó phải gọi là elite ẩm thực

Hell yeah!
No ,no ,no .
I had this in hcm years ago. Couldn’t find it in Singapore. Apparently the herb wasn’t available here…damn. The aromatic herb infused oil coating the fish, and eating it with the herb and the bun vermicelli is very delicious.
the main herb of this dish are just about sping onion and dill. easy to find. just mix these two together.
“Chả cá Lã Vọng” (Hanoi grilled fish) is an iconic dish of Hanoi.
This one I didn't fancy .. had it at Cha Ca Thang Long 19 - 21 - 31 Đường Thành, Hanoi, Vietnam
Will give it a try again in Hanoi

The chilies are usually put in the shrimp paste sauce. It’s nice too see you enjoy the food there Mark!
I have seen the whole menu is in Vietnamese... i cant understand the local language then how can i order /understand clearly whats exactly on the menu 🤔
That dish looks incredible 🎉
Thank you Mark for introducing this dish to us! We absolutely loved it!! Hope we could bump into you in one of our travels ❤
it's so interresting of eating with small size bowls , bite size bowls , so each bite you can make it different with spicy chillis or not, fish sauce or other sauce dips.
Same meal but diffrent flavors for each bite
It also ensures that people aren't making their "own" bowls of food like in Western culture. The food is meant to be shared, and you only take what you eat. It promotes communal dining and awareness of others dining with you.
@@dohpe- very interresting, thank you for giving more insights
thanks for taking the time.
That dish looks gorgeous and probably something I could even make at home!
