- Another day in Hanoi, but this time with my buddy @chrismixlewis
We started off with something I have to have once a week, bun bo hue. Now we may have been in Hanoi but this place was no joke, loaded with lemongrass, full on beef flavor, and mainly, had that spice! A must eat bowl when craving bun bo hue.
Now for the main reason of the video, Cha ca. A Hanoi delicacy and something everybody must try when in Hanoi. Now, this place does it a little different but that doesn't mean it isn’t delicious. A little pricier but you will get your money’s worth, absolutely delicious cha ca in Hanoi.
Last up for the day, chao from Hue and tofu dessert. Now I know we are in Hanoi, but I wanted to take the opportunity to try delicious foods and things I have never before eaten so I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. It was a good call as it was delicious and a great finish to the day.

Love your video, and just a lil' tip for ya Max: whenever you have shrimp paste, you should squeeze some citrus (most commonly lime and kumquat) and use chopsticks to whisk the mixture until the white foam is formed. It would give the shrimp paste a lighter, silkier texture, also add some depth to the flavour.

Your commentary while eating Chả Cá Dish brings it to a new level. Honestly, I tried the dish several times in the South but didn't enjoy it as much as you did.
The mix of Fermented shrimp paste, lime, and sugar is definitely worth trying with the dish.
I've been here before on my trip to VN years ago, food is as authentic as you can get. The best!

I just remember a good old time when I just walked 100 meters in the morning to have a hot bowl of Pho or Bun Bo Hue. The taste of food you have in Vietnam is just unique that you could not find anything the same around the world!

Khi ăn chả cá bạn nên rưới 1 chút dầu vào mắm tôm và vắt thêm quất/chanh, thêm ớt tươi để bát chấm đậm đà và dậy mùi nhé.
Quán mà các bạn ăn sử dụng loại cá Lăng đắt tiền nên giá cao hơn quán khác chứ ko phải lý do khác đâu. Chúc các bạn khám phá thêm nhiều món ăn ngon của VN nhé 🇻🇳

Các món có nước súp ỏe miền nam sẽ nấu vị ngọt bằng xương, hoặc nước dừa tươi, niêm nếm muối, đường, hạt niêm, một ít bột ngọt; còn miền bắc có thể có hầm xương, không niêm đường chỉ niêm bột ngọt còn gọi là mì chín, bột canh. Bonus:
Vietnamese often eat mắm tôm by adding a little bit hot oil in the chả cá pan and chili slices with kumquat and then mix well until u see the bubbles on the surface of mắm tôm.
It's really fun seeing 2 US guys speak Vnmese in southern and northern accents. Add some more shrimp paste for stronger taste, dude :D
