HANOI, VIETNAM - Today Iâm in Hanoi, Vietnam, and going to try a dish Iâve never had before: bun ca. Itâs a dish that includes noodles and fried fish with dill and herbs, and even pineapple in the broth. I absolutely loved it, so much that I needed to try three different versions, with different noodles and both the dry and soup version.
Vietnam has so many delicious soup noodles, and bun ca is yet another one you need to add to your list!

As a Vietnamese, I've had Bun Ca almost every morning before I went to school for 10 years. Never got tired of it. The only reason I stopped eating it is because the lady selling it near my house moved away. I still remember that sweet sour spicy soup even to this day.
Very cool, glad this dish bring back such delicious memories for you!
enviable!
You are so lucky. many school kids here in UK eat kit kat and energy drink for breakast in schools. đ„Čđ„Č
@@borinvlogs In Vietnam, you will be beaten to death by parents if you eat things like kitkat, confectioneries,... and carbonated soft drink for breakfast.
I so love the Micah is right there helping dad and I think Ying must be manning the camera. Love that you can travel the world with your family.
That vegetable is called ârau cáș§nâ. The English names are water celery, water dropwort. Itâs a common ingredient in fish/seafood based soup in Vietnam. Also VERY good when stir fried on its own or with garlic/tomato.
Thanks for letting me know, I really enjoyed it!
Now You can have a baby girl for Micah . Supporting from Washington State . Thanks Mark ! â€đâ€đđđ
@@MarkAbroadthere is Rau cáș§n nÆ°á»c in Thailand too, but Thai people eat it Fresh

Vietnam is LEGIT! I cannot wait to get back there and do a full month eating their delicious cuisine!
When I lived in San Diego and Orange County I tried every Vietnamese noodle dish that I know of but none like what Iâm seeing. Great video.
I think the reason for that is because most Vietnamese who live out in Southern California are either from Central or Southern Vietnam. Very few immigrated from Northern Vietnam, so there aren't that many restaurants that serve Northern Vietnamese dishes.
I just found out recently myself that my grandparents on both sides were from Northern Vietnam originally but later moved to the south before they came to the US. Outside of that, I have only ever met one person growing up who told me openly that they are Northern Vietnamese.
@@aznmochibunny When I was in Junior, I had a friend who was from North Vietnam. I didnât know it at the time but my other friends told he was from N. Vietnam just by by the accent.
Mark's son is a lucky kid to be able to see so much. You know he will follow in the footsteps of one of the greats.
I have tried many noodle soups from many countries. In my opinion, Vietnam has the best broth.
Those women are amazing~ thank you for sharing this with us all. And, it is Mother's Day here...so Happy Mother's Day Ying, sending warm wishes and love your way always. đ»
I remember Micah being a baby now heâs picking in your food like a little food vlogger in the making lol
The red noodle version looked awesome! I could enjoy several bowls!
God Bless Vietnam, such a brave culture with very good food!
They beat US during war with that noodle...
@@toddai2721 much more than that.
Iâm first finally!! More powers to you bro!! Thank you for sharing the world and foods to us! I am a big fan from Philippines living here in Oman!

banh da is my favourite type of vietnamese noodle, if you have time please try banh da cua!
I have watch you so many years I have lost count Mark. But when you are in S.E. Asia, Vietnam and Thailand I want to be walking those ally ways and streets with you eating everything in sight.
Totally blown away with the use of the dill in this soup! Small detail, but I didn't know it was used in Vietnamese cooking đ
Itâs mostly used in the northern areas
@@janehuynh1395 thank you for the context!
in Hanoi, we have some classic combinations of different proteins with herbs/spices in traditional cuisine: dill with fish, lime leaves with chicken, ginger with beef, onion with pork, Vietnamese balm with fried tofu etc.
@May. Belle appreciate this! Lucky for me, I just happened to buy some Vietnamese balm at my local market. Thanks to you, I think we'll make some tofu today đ
@@FlavorofMind Great! I donât know many foreigners can eat herbs like Vietnamese balm because it has a slightly bitter taste, but you should give it a try. Growing up with those food combinations I think they really make sense.
Fish in Vietnam is what I want to be eating someday. Love how much sour, spicy, and herbal flavor is going into these dishes! Might be my ideal way to enjoy seafood â€

that fish roll used to be my favorite thing to eat, just like how you described đđŒ fish noodle soup is a common dish in Hanoi, yet many are popular with their own recipe, hope you can enjoy various styles with different flavors of fish noodles here
Thank you very much, I really enjoyed it and would love to try more versions.
Mark thank you for doing what youâre doing. Iâve got pathetic lungs but only 6-10 months away from being able to travel again, your posts are an inspiration to me and Vietnamese food is my passion after eating Pho Ga two years ago. Love to you and your family.x
Mark always makes me hungry
I think it takes 1000 or more clips to fully enjoy Vietnamese cuisine :). Hope you stay in VN longer!
Vietnamese cuisine rocks!
Love Vietnam and the food, will be back there this August.
I am not well, but I feel lively watching mark food videos lucky he can travel freely living his life n passion
Vietnam has all kinds of fish noodles recipes. In Hanoi there are at least dozens of fish noodles types I believe. Also try the fish noodles in Haiphong if you have time. Haiphong is just another world of food.
Hai Phong is where all the Hanoians go for food tours due to it's great food. I'm almost certain the cha ca with the red noodles came from there.
Thank you Mark, for such an excellent and honest representation of Vietnamese food. Been following you since day one. The best food reviewer in my opinion. Love your videos
Thank you very much!
Awesome job Mark, Thanks đ«¶đŸ
Yummmm!!! I live in Los Angeles and always eating Vietnamese food and I feel it will never compare to Vietnamâs food. Hopefully one day will visit there to see what Iâm actually missing.

Great choice Mark! This is my favorite place to eat this dish in Hanoi. BĂșn is the regular vermicelli noodles, miáșżn is the glass noodles, and bĂĄnh Äa is the red noodles. I prefer getting it with bĂĄnh Äa because it's a classic Northern style noodle, you can't get it in most of Vietnam, while the other two noodles are common throughout the country. Looking forward to the next Vietnam videos!
A heartfelt thank you for your incredible review of Vietnamese food! Your words beautifully captured the allure of Vietnam and the extraordinary flavors of its cuisine. You've truly helped showcase the beauty of Vietnam and its delicious culinary delights to the world. Much appreciation!
Friend, I always look forward to your videos, I love every video with amazing scenes and delicious food
I was just in Hanoi in January/February. It's hard to believe so many people eat pho for breakfast there! I loved Hanoi, I flew to Da Nang, then spent a bit of time in Hoi An and Hue as well. Beautiful country and the service was tops everywhere!
Tks for your experiences well in my Country! Hopefully you will comeback in the future!
Love Vietnamese food!

Keep it up. man. Iâm so stoked that you get to cruise around and witness/eat so many cool things prepared and shared from the other side of the globe. Also, dig how respectful and appreciative you are to everyone. Very cool!
Awesome Food tour đźđź
Love this series Mark. Can't wait for the next video.
Looks delicious đ, never heard of anyone putting a slice of pineapple in the soup. Sounds delicious đ. Love that they put fresh vegetables and fried fish.
Thank you, the pineapple gives it a nice sweet and sourness.
There's another Vietnamese soup called canh chua that also has pineapple in it, but that soup is usually a compliment to eat for family dinners with rice and other side dishes.
â@Mark Abroad I did a video of me Eating a Bunmee roll đ and pretended to be you once I bite into it was so funny đ đ
Pineapple is often used in canh chua (sour soup that's loved by Viets...the fish version uses pineapple, there's also a pork rib version but it uses pickled mustard greens). Many vendors also add pineapple to their bun bo Hue broth, but it's only used to flavor the broth, it's not eaten with the meal.
Great video as usual - quality food đđđ
Welcome to VN!Love your vibes, vietnamese food always amazing
Thanks Mark for this beautiful video so informative and just watching you eat I feel and as if I taste it the way you describe what you are eating make my jaw drop and wish that I can eat it someday keep it up Mark

Hey Mark you should do a food tour of Hai Phong and eat BĂșn cĂĄ cay, or spicy fish noodles, or BĂĄnh Äa cua which is crab noodle soup. There are so many amazing dishes there that would suit your taste more since you like spicy, sour, and salty tastes.

, I remember that u travelled to Hochiminh city and did some food review video long time ago, thanks for comming back Vietnam
I used to view your videos about Thai street food, and glad to see you in Vietnam, my country
Noticing that your son has been trying the foods you eat in the videos now. Looks like he's getting more adventurous like his pop! That's awesome! Watch out though, he might get expensive tastes. My kids at his age pretty much just ate chicken tenders/nuggets or hamburgers. My daughter was always like that until one time I ordered a nice steak and she wanted to try a piece because it smelled good I guess. She'd ended up forgetting her chicken tenders and eating most of my steak! From then (she was two or three) until now that she's an adult, if they serve steak, she's getting the best. It would throw the wait staff for a loop sometimes when she was little through. They would be like "She wants the chopped hamburger steak right with no bun?" I'd be like: "Nope bring my two year old her own big Ribeye please!" Lol
Thanks mark
So hard to watch this vietnamese series while being a vietnamese person living abroad. I miss the food so so much.
Great video Mark wiensđ
Thank you for visiting Vietnam and appreciating the local food . I once watched a very ancient video of you in Saigon ( made more than ten years ago , I think ) , you had long hair . It began at morning in the hotel then you drank at a sidewalk coffee and ate in a restaurant.
Man, I wish I knew you were coming, Iâve got some great spots I would love to take you to! You gotta let me know next time so we can try some new things in HN! âșïž
It looks mouth-watering
Oh yeah, this is one of my favorite Vietnamese food too!
The brown noodles are from adding caramel coloring to the pasta dough. Kind of a slight burnt flavor
amazing video :)
The one you walked by and said youâll come back, that place sells duck or goose noodles, pretty famous place, the owner is infamous for yelling at customers lol
What is the name of the restaurant? Thanks!
Itâs called âbĂșn ngan NhĂ nâ its simple a house in a small alley they turn into a place to eat
How are you âșïž and Blessed Mother's Day to you @ Ying Wiens
