Withholding food from any child as a form of discipline is a huge Red Flag.
It's actually a pretty well-known, old-fashioned form of discipline. "Off to bed with you, young man, without your supper!" However, if it's to the point where the child's health is in danger or being done for the slightest peccadillo, that's different.
Yea I agree nothing wrong with saying he you haven’t listened you need to get such and such done before you have lunch or whatever, sometimes that’s what’s needed however I agree if it’s to a point that the kid is malnourished and literally starving then yes that’s f’ed up
@@Falcon-um7vo "Well-known" and "old-fashioned" are not unimpeachable standards of appropriate conduct. "Slavery" and "witch burning" were also well-known and "old-fashioned." If this CZcamsr were managing a state-licensed daycare for young children, withholding food from the children could constitute abuse. I would think that most childcare professionals would say that withholding food, like slapping or striking young children, is grossly inappropriate, and could be abusive.

I faced just the opposite from my parents, particularly my military father, in that I was punished with food. Some examples I remember well (and I’m 74!): At the age of 2+ yrs., I was left in my hi-chair in the dining area because I couldn’t finish my glass of milk. My two older siblings were already in bed; my folks were in the living area, listening to the radio and reading, and the lights in the dining room were deliberately turned off. My dad kept knocking on the back of his chair, scaring me that it was “the boogie man” who was going to get me for not finishing my milk. I recall knowing it was my dad knocking, but being utterly frustrated by being strapped into my highchair and unable to drink that damn milk. I don’t recall how this scene ended. At 3, I dared to say I didn’t want some veggie or another put on my plate cuz I didn’t like it; whereupon my cruel father put twice as much on my plate and told me “You’re gonna eat it AND you’re gonna like it!” I remember so well my 3 yr. old self saying to myself, “He can make me eat it. And I can make him believe I like it. But he’ll never be able to know that even if I eat it, I’ll never like it!” Thank goodness I had an early sense of self-preservation; though, it also taught me to be a sneaky kid. When I was just 5, I was dressed in my Halloween costume, planning to go with my older siblings to a big party on the base (no trick or treating then), but, I just could not eat the slice of tomato on my plate. I tried, but I kept gagging. I was sent to my room and cried myself to sleep while listening to all the other kids happily run off to the party. Needless to say, I have had food issues my whole life. And though I like catsup and pasta/pizza sauce, I still won’t eat tomatoes!
Any manipulating of children with (or without) food is definitely child abuse, imo. Looking at the mother in question, I’ll bet she has some big food issues of her own, too. So glad we now live in a society where this sort of torture of children is finally being called what it really is…Abuse!
I grew up the same way. My step dad went from eat it or do without to if you don't eat it now you can have it for breakfast...or lunch..or tomorrow's dinner. Once I said I didn't like a food we had it 3 times a week.
I secretly fed my "hated" food to our family dog that sat near our kitchen doorway. What kid would want prunes, scrambled cow brains as morning eggs, or pigs feet as snacks?! Yep...my baby sister is a vegan adult.

My parents read Michael Pearl's To Train Up a Child...... and they glorify and praise disciplining children, harsh spankings with bamboo poles, denying food or giving a substandard meal. I won't be letting them around my daughter. Im frightened she'll misbehave as small children often do and be inappropriately dealt with. I don't think children should go without discipline or consequences for bad behavior but i can never ever condone methods that are outright abusive.
I also grew up in a household with harsh discipline. My dad beat me (I'm female) and my sisters and brother over the pettiest stuff. Like eating while sitting on on the carpet. Or not leaving the throw pillows in exactly the right place after sitting on the couch. Or leaving our shoes in the wrong spot. Or leaving our toys on the floor. Or throwing a foam ball and it accidentally hit the mini blinds. Or accidentally spilling milk or juice. Or getting a math problem wrong on our schoolwork. And many more reasons. Too much to list. Basically, any excuse to beat us. It was domestic violence, except it was directed against us kids instead of against my mom. My mom wasn't abusive, but she did nothing to stop it. The thing is, kids are people, and they grow up and remember the abuse. I have neither forgiven nor forgotten. The only reason I still have contact with my parents as an adult is because I want to stay in the will and inherit their assets. By the way, you are doing the right thing, keeping your kids away from your parents. I don't have kids (I'm in my late 30's), so I'm punishing my parents by not gifting them grandchildren. I don't want to perpetuate their genes.

@hamsterama I'm sorry you went through that 😔 you're entirely correct. Kids don't forget. My mom was the gentle parent, and my dad was the abusive one, but she did little to stop him. There was multiple instances but 2 that really stuck in my memory were during my senior year of HS, I was excelling in my classes and gotten into a state university for engineering (of my own initiative, my parents couldn't have cared less). One morning, i had an AP chemistry exam and was rushing to leave for school, and my dad came after me angry that I'd left my empty cereal bowl on the table. I was stressed about the exam and started to say something, and he slapped me twice in the face. Another time right before final exams, my room was mildly messy but not terrible - I'm pretty neat and it had to with exams. My dad came home, looked into the room and proceeded to flip my mattress and dump out my drawers to "teach me a lesson about tidyness".
Yeah, and he wonders why I'm not interested in having much of a relationship as an adult.

I'm having flashbacks to the story of the Turpins. Same thing with a kid escaping and getting help. It's scary that this kind of stuff is more common than you think. So incredibly heartbreaking.

Thats exactly how my parents were. Went to bed many a night with no food and sometimes had to sit at the table and watch everyone else eat dinner and punishment was to eat just bread and water. Cant tell you how many times had to eat food out the trash if i threw it away. Cant tell you how many times I had to cold leftovers if i didnt finish my plate in time. No wonder 30 years after escaping that home, I still have issues with food. Eating is a chore and food is a burden to me. I absolutely hate to eat. People look at me eat and think I have great discipline...if only they knew I had abusive parents.

The positive is obvious mate... Idk where you're at? The positive is IF they didn't escape and the neighbor take notice of the severity of the situation, then likely this could've gone on for years and never had been prosecuted in any way shape or form if no one knew. That's the positive, the children are no longer suffering the abuse their excuse of a mother has to dish out. The negative would be if they were still there, being abused, and no one even knew. We move forward from here, and seek justice because of the negatives. But it's not bad to look at the positive too, that the CHILDREN are now safe compared to where they were previously.

I came across one of her videos once, and had a very uncomfortable feeling about her. So, I wasn't exactly surprised....
Maybe people should think twice about taking parenting advice from strangers on CZcams, Tiktok , Instagram or whatever. If you think we are having problems with the current generation, wait til this next one grows up. How about the traditional route and get it from your parents and other relatives.

I don't know for sure, but I'd guess she was homeschooling her kids, and didn't have them doing any activities outside of the home. Unless it's changed a lot in the last 10-12 years, or the state she lives in has stricter regulations than where I'm from, then nobody comes and checks on you as long as your parents are reporting adequate grades.

Many families in Utah homeschool their children (Utah is 3rd in the USA, after Washington and Virginia). I don't think schools are empowered to do welfare checks. Someone has to notify the authorities (either law enforcement or an agency like Child Protective Services) to initiate a welfare check.

I think she falsely considers herself the long-suffering, “good” mom of “difficult” kids, and so sad the abuse went on this long. She won’t learn from this and will always be a danger to any child who has the misfortune to be dependent on her.

She really did say that it was ok for her not to help her 6 year old daughter pack her lunch with the excuse of allowing the child to experience “natural consequences” in the form of hunger because she didn’t want to pack her lunch cause shes only 6. Not to mention these children are always “on the clock” in these types of situations.
I have no idea what this individual was thinking. Absolutely disgusting! My wife and I have four daughters and two sons. Breakfast and Dinner, one was getting the plates and silverware ready, or helping mom with the eggs, or bringing the potatoes out to me at the grill. Helping actually cook, and learning. We always had them participate in cooking. Made them feel good, they were learning a necessary skill in life, and they we’re having fun doing it! Saturday was always clean house day. Clean rooms, vacuuming mopping, wash whatever clothes didn’t get washed throughout the week. Done by noon usually, and then off to get ice cream and shopping. Discipline in our house varied, and that usually means loosening privileges. I never believed in spanking, I never needed to! The look, or a HEY! No More took care of nonsense ( usually the tv remote) We have three grandchildren now, and have been using the same practices on them. So far so good! Oldest is six, and was recently diagnosed with autism. He’s wired a little differently, and needs a lot more attention than I’m accustomed to. We’re still figuring him out, I’m learning! Enough of my babbling, Kids should never have go hungry. Show them love guidance discipline and structure. Everything just seems to fall into place.

Then, in order to deal with the internal trauma, she convinced herself that she had "learned" from the experience and therefore she understood the merits of abuse better than anyone who had not... The cycle of abuse continues. See a therapist folks. Find and recognize trauma, and address it, otherwise you get this kind of "do unto others what was done unto you" behaviour.

OMG! My parents will discipline us as kids but never use food as punishment. In fact, when we don’t want to eat because we were pouting or upset of being sent in our room, we get called to make sure to sit on the table and eat. My Dad will get mad even more if we don’t eat, so we ate!!
My dad would stand behind me while I tried to eat and smash the side of my head if/when I started to puke. For hours. Now he is 80 and I'm in charge of his eating. I could, you know. But I won't. I can still feel the dry wad of food stuck halfway down and the panic.

@@kenc2257 he was a Marine in Vietnam. It broke him. Emotional regulation took a while to come back and in the mean time everything was a pissing contest. Could have been much worse I guess.
