      Lucy can’t hold a candle to Barbra! I don’t appreciate it when a singer can’t be original and has to siphon music from a true artist. She also relies too much on her usual auto tune while Streisand never had auto-tune in the 1970’s. Next wannabe!!

    Hi Glad to see that you have recovered and a good reaction to this song. I am Lucy Thomas fan so I prefer Lucy´s version her voice is out of this world and for someone so young to have such control beggars belief .Her pitch is perfect, her enunciation is perfect her Vibrato is exquisite no one does vibrato like Lucy. In this song she holds that last note for 17 seconds and ends in a perfect vibrato. Chris Broom Award winning songwriter and owner of Cavendish records the Label Lucy is under. Said he was introduced to Lucy when she was 13 and that he knew then that she had the potential to become one of the greatest female vocalist of times ,He said she had the rare ability to bring the audience into the song. He was so impressed with her that he asked her to record his song "One Day" which is on her premier Album the following year after she was a semi finalist in the voice Kids Uk he offered her a record contract and Lucy is still with Chris today. He is Writing a musical for Lucy to star in Called Rossie which opens in London´s West End next year. Lucy has pre recorded some of the songs which you can find on her channel Lucy Thomas Music .Thanks again for reacting to Lucy.

    A classic covered by a fine new artist that should have a long career ahead of her. What a great way to keep a song alive. Streisand not only sang the original, but won an Academy Award for writing the music. (Paul Williams received one for the lyrics). Astonishingly, she was the first woman in the history of the Academy Awards to win an Oscar for composing. Btw, in the movie, John Norman Howard's (aka Kris) band was called "The Speedway". This group was definitely made up of legit musicians who not only worked with Kris historically, but other artists from Dylan to Maurice White. Off screen Kris was a member of "The Highway Men" comprised of himself, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Waylon Jennings.

    I’ve never been into this type of song however I accepted from appraisals that Barbara Streisand was the legendary singer. Not that I listened to her to know. Being a Lucy fan I of course checked out her version and I liked it. Evergreen is still not my favourite song even with Lucy, nevertheless I could appreciate Lucy’s singing. But it caused some debate, so as I’m doing here I went to check out Barbara Streisand’s version. I thought it was ok, but I preferred Lucy. However now listening them together here, Lucy crushes Barbara’s version. I think people decide which is best by how long the last note can be held - which is stupid. But Barbara did appear to hold the last note for longer, however it was weak and struggled after 5 seconds, and how she continued it while kissing I don’t know. But it was a movie. Lucy held the last note controlled and clear for nearly as long. However I’ve just seen Lucy sing Evergreen live and she could not match the last note in her video, but she had sung constantly for 50 minutes about 10 songs without even a breath pause or drink. Disregarding the last note Lucy sounds to me to sings this much better. So as said in Highlander - There can be only ONE! 😄
    Get ready for another slaying: Julie Covington vs Lucy Thomas ‘Don't Cry For Me Argentina’. I already know the winner. 😉

There is never any fluctuation in the quality and delivery of her sound. Truly gifted and blessed with talent, she will take over the singing world and be right there at the top with the best out there. For a woman so young she can only get better if that is even possible. It is no wonder she is killing it on youtube. Hi there, Just came across this reaction by you. Just wanted to tell you that I enjoyed this a lot. I am a huge Barbara fan - Always have felt she might have had the most beautiful voice I have ever heard (at least to my ears). Have discovered Lucy in the last year or so - was stunned the first time I listened to her - and have grown more and more impressed ever since. I really thought your analysis/observations at the end were VERY good and spot on when discussing their voices. They really are both unique with different pitches, Barbara as a rule uses more of a head or nasal voice - Lucy has that beautiful richness and probably uses her subtle vibrato more - she has a great low register voice also (particularly for just turning 20). Anyways, really good analysis by you, found it to be very interesting - I am now subscribed and will certainly be checking out some of your previous stuff and look for the upcoming. Thanks!

    Hi ya - Barbara did a great job on this song in 1976 and won awards as well. However, audio technology has progressed greatly since 1976 and could also be to blame for, in my opinion, what is not a good quality sound in Barbars's version. I am not a fan of vocal gymnastics either and I think Barbara put in a couple of those. I prefer Lucy's version of this classic much more. Lucy has a way of performing her vocals in a very smooth way. Lucy has such a crystal-clear voice, a depth and warmth in the lower range and incredible quality in the upper ranges without straining or screeching like so many other artists. In my opinion, Lucy decimates this song and is still the preeminent vocalist of this age.

    Sorry but Lucy’s version is much better. If you were just listening you might give Barbra a close second, but when you watch Lucy you see the feeling behind each word. All of Lucy’s videos show that her heart and soul are in every lyric she sings. At this time she is the best female vocalist on the planet and I hope she begins to do live performances. I hope it is soon because i am getting pretty old and i might miss my chance. I would give just about anything to see her do a taping of one of er videos.

  • @stephenwhipp6344
    @stephenwhipp6344 Před 10 měsíci +2

    As a piece of music I prefer Lucy's BUT in this case I shall add a huge proviso which is this. Barbara wasn't singing this as a rendition, she was acting and it makes all the difference. One thing Lucy still lacks (although give her, her due she isn't yet 20 years old) is the full ability to express what she's putting into her vocals into her expressions, to wear the emotions she's singing. Barbara being a hugely experienced Broad Way actress, even at this time does, and she is actually sacrificing on technical aspect of the vocals for this. It shows but at the same time what you get is a much more emotional experience overall, cause she's in character. Its something Lucy (especially as she now steps out into theatre productions in the West End, will learn)
    she might not be able to to now, but roll back a couple of decades and Barbara could have done the song (technical vocalise) every bit as well as Lucy does it. The Nasal quality you speak of is an adaptation for the stage, to protect her voice rather than something she naturally needs to do, its a choice.
    I am a huge Lucy Thomas fan, but I'm also realistic here. She's really good, a complete musical prodigy from a family of musical brilliance, but she's still only just setting out on her career, she's not at Barbara's level... yet.

      Stephen, she is beyond Barbra's level, right now. You do realize there is this musical called "Rosie", where Lucy will be ACTING! You do understand this, right? This is a completely ORIGINAL musical, not one that has been re-hashed thousands of times, ad nauseum! Lucy has 9 ORIGINAL performances from "Rosie", plus the original performance, "A Brand New Day", which she did back in May of this year!

I also know what I'm talking about here, and being objective, to listen to i do prefer Lucy's voice any day of the week but, technically Barbara was better at the time when she performed this song, simply because of greater experience, not inate talent..
      I am very well aware of Rosie and Lucy's involvement.
      But ok, here's the things to start noticing, let's take Broken Dreams, (which I adore btw), there's a number of moments, one very noticeable where she's concentrating a little too much on technicalities of vocal production rather than on matching up to the emotion of the lyrics. It's details that experience and maturity bring
      Barbara does have a harsher tone a lot of the time, its deliberate to protect her voice on long running productions, I much prefer lucy's tone, as a piece of music Lucy's rendition is better than Barabara's. But I'm being a vocal critic not a listener and knowing just what Barbara was also capable of
