Do you suggest upgrading everything while doing these clutch disks? I got the Koso lifter plate as a gift but it’s only for 3 bolts and 60% springs. Will that be fine or should I get the basket made to upgrade all 6 springs and a better lift plate ? (Hopefully I said all that right)
You can do just the diy setup I did with the springs. The better plate is an upgrade but not needed really. All up to you. But you’ll be fine with the minimum like I did
Did you get any chatter with yours by chance after? I have 80% springs and did the same clutch pack and I’m getting some chatter at idle after cable adjustment and all
HELP! I installed a after market 5 disc clutch, new clutch plate and springs. After putting everything back together I’m UNABLE to get the crank case cover to line up. It’s like it’s binding around the bearing for the oil spinner and the rod under the clutch basket. If anyone has any help for me please let me know!!
My best troubleshooting would be to disassemble everything and assemble everything again. Obviously if something is binding up that means that something is not installed correctly
Any issue adjusting your clutch? I did the same mods (smr 6 disc, 80% springs, chimera lifter) and have cable adjusted all the way out. Its either slipping or if I adjust other way hard to get into gear. Everything torqued to spec.
Nope no issues here. I’m willing to bet your issue is with the clutch basket. It’s incredibly common. Something isn’t seated all the way. Take it apart again and just reassemble the basket and rings. It’s such a tiny gap if it’s not all the way seated. Hard to see it and easy to miss
I don’t remember. But As sort of a general rule there should be about a Nichols width of free play with the clutch cable. So not that much at all of not engaging and then as soon as that engages you should not have any issues at all. I’ve talked to probably six or seven guys personally that had this exact similar issue and read about dozens of others and it’s always an issue of the clutch basket
It’s been a really long time since I found this video and unfortunately I don’t have time to go back and watch it right now to know which one you were talking about. And I don’t remember.
Nothing torqued to spec. If you did have a torque wrench in one hand, you could use a penny with some needle nose to stick in between the gears so that you could get the rite torque spec.
I have a torque wrench and I use it on certain things. I explain my reasoning for not doing so for this install and I also caution to do it at your own risk
Why would you not use a torque wrench when the factory manual says you're supposed to? Kind of like covid? Some people wear a mask and some people don't;
Because I don’t feel like the grom is significant of an engine to worry about torque. Everything in the open. I don’t take it on long hauls and I check it regularly. Like I said.....if you feel like you should then do it. Everyone should do what they feel comfortable with. On the grom, I’m comfortable not doing torque specs
