  • I destroyed the clutch on my 2017 Honda Grom 125cc about a month ago. I replaced it, changed the oil, and upgraded to stiffer springs. Finally got around to putting this together. I'm not a mechanic and don't claim to know what I'm doing so watch and follow at your own risk. However, I did learn a few tricks and tips, so hopefully this is of use to some of you. At minimum, you can see what tools I used for the job. Enjoy!

    Great video. Only thing I'd say is please don't use an impact to tighten the bolts. You need to torque those down very gently to the right spec. But otherwise you did amazing.

    16:55 does the pressure plate go in first or does the clutch plate (the clutch plate is the one with the teeth, and the pressure plate is the flat one)

    How'd you burn out your clutch? What really happens when it's being burnt? I'm curious because I have a feeling mine may be on it's way out but I'm not sure. I ordered the 60% springs and lifter plate, so I'll be able to see when I'm inside, but I'm curious as to the affects of burning it up.
    Great video!

It’s like it’s binding around the bearing for the oil spinner and the rod under the clutch basket. If anyone has any help for me please let me know!!

    Why is it that you didn't add the extra clutch bolts when replaced the clutch springs and clutch cover. I know honda only gives you three but when your adding heavier clutch springs in my mind its all ways safer to add more bolts to give the clutch better clutch pressure. IF I were you id order three more bolts and add them real quick. Very simple too do it.

    Hey Jon I am about to do this same job with my grom as well (stiffer springs) and I couldn't help but notice your oil pump. Is that the stock one still? I see you rippin big wheelies on it and was wondering if it is really necessary to swap out for a modded one? My wheelies aren't as rad as yours yet but I am slowly progressing. Have you had any oil deprivation issues with the grom? Thanks again for sharing a good D.I.Y on how to do this job.

    • @JonsMotoGarage
      @JonsMotoGarage  Před 4 lety +1

      I havent done the oil pump mod but would recommend it. I intentionally keep my wheelies short(ish) distance because of it.

      Jon's Moto Garage ya for wheelies. But I’m at 14/ 37 now and can’t really pop it up that easy. Especially in 2nd. So I’m thinking of going to a 35. But also thinking clutch could be going out. It’s got 6,333 miles and springs are 60% stronger

      @@davidsimard5700 Gotcha. Yeah, I haven't messed with gearing or looked into it much. I've yet to figure out second gear sit downs but haven't spent much time on them either. Sometimes I pull it off by sheer luck. Lol. I'm better shifting from first to second or doing second gear stand ups.
