  • At £350 the Dyson Hot + Cool is a seriously expensive fan heater, but is it worth the price? I take a look.

It's super hot right now 🔥, how are you staying cool? ❄️ To reiterate, this is a fan and not an A/C unit it will not cool down your room, it will only circulate air! Any questions? Leave a comment and I'll get back to you 👌🏾

aroundtheclock you're going to want to buy an A/C unit I'm afraid. 😞To produce cold air you need to move heat from one area (inside) to another (outside) which cools the room.

correct it is not an ac unit but it will circulate cooler air that lays below the hotter air, hot rises cool sinks so by tilting the am09 down this will cause the cooler air to mix and with warmer air thus cooling.

That's pretty helpful. It's record high heat here in San Francisco and I was thinking about buying this fan. I mistakenly assumed it was also an air conditioner for hot weather from the misleading name, but now I know better. Thanks buddy, I'll be buying a regular window AC. Very helpful.

I did too and took it out of box threw box away and realised it wasn't cool!
It was a process to get my $619 back by calling fair trading. I was advised due to feeling misled by the advertising dating cools you in summer and it's called cool then I can get refund even without box.
Waiting on my refund into my bank which should get soon by 10 days

I have this fan it's amazing, I have it for my room it's nice and cool and since I'm almost using anc headphones ( Bose 35 or Sony 3000) I can't hear it under setting 6 it does cool down my room well enough to keep the door closed and not have it get hot the past part is my room is fairly small 20x20x10ft so about 11,000 cubic litters it cleans all my air in it every 30 seconds, I've bought it and my parents made multiple remarks on how the air in my room is much nicer and better, definitely would spend 649.00$ again to get it for another room

I don't mind any sound coming from it. In fact, I prefer it. What I don't like is the night time use part as the light(s) on the front are too freaking bright! I wish you could turn off the digital light. Dyson should have it so that the light will turn off after a few second after being pressed. I have to place something in front of it to try to block the very bright digital display light as if its some sort of night light that illuminates my bedroom.

Thanks for the review! Thought about this one. E-mailed them and asked about efficiency, didn't get any proof back that it was more efficient than a regular convector element (around £25) + floor fan, so that's what I got. Most of the regular ones also have the option to turn the fan completely off while still having the same heating setting. They do get a lot hotter inside though (if you have small children, pets etc), outside is just warm to the touch. Have a good one.

It may be worth noting that Price = Cost + Profit, but an additional factor is one's perceived Value of the object. The price of this product will pay for the Research & Development that Dyson put into this tech-and fund future tech-which will factor into the price of new products. That is valuable in-and-of itself.

I have this fan, it is definitely NOT quiet at the comparable air flow of other fan. My comparison is a $35 Costco towel fan. Tower fan at low setting has about the same air pressure as this dyson at 6 setting. But the tower fan is a lot more quiet. Dyson is only quiet at 2-3 setting. Another issue here is that the noise general by dyson has a higher pitch, a lot more distracting noise than larger fan. Overall, I am very disappointed by the practical performance of this dyson fan at its cost. My wife still like it for its look. but in a hot summer day, she will grab my tower fan. I won't buy it again

Nothing about this product is budget - just get a basic fan heater

    • @oli9609
      @oli9609 Před 5 lety

It uses 1500W/1.5kwh of power. That's a fair amount. If energy costs are 20c per kwh, it'll cost you 30c an hour to run it.
If you run it for 5 hours (1 hour in the morning, 4 hours in the evening) that'll be $1.50 a day. If you use it 300 days a year, it costs $450 a year to run that thing! So even if you had it for free, it wouldn't be good for budget apartment heating.
Also, the room is only warm as long as you have the device on. Once you turn it off, the room will quickly turn cold again because it doesn't hold onto residual heat.
I would only buy the Dyson for the safety element and timer option so you can put it on before bed and fall asleep without worries. Or if you have animals/small kids and are worried about injury from touching fan blades/hot exterior or it being knocked over. The Dyson is definitely one of the safest options out there in that regard, but if you're single, you're better buying off a regular ceramic space heater with a timer plug for $50 total because that they are just as safe, if not safer (ceramic and metal is more resistant to heat than Dyson's plastic housing)

But the worst part of them is how loud they get on the higher speeds, much louder than a regular fan. This is just a fan and a heater combined. I think it is not worth the hefty price. It is just as noisy as a regular fan and simply circulates the air around the room like a normal fan does. The heating may be better .... cannot tell now as it is summer, but when one has central heating who needs an expensive electric heater like this. There are numerous small fan heaters around at a fraction of the cost. No, I do not recommend this product to anyone and the one I purchased is going to be returned for a refund soon.

It's not cheap and I feel a little guilty buying it but it does look fantastic and has a low footprint compared to a circular fan. And as far as performance goes, you can have it on while watching the telly without being noisy. I give it a 7/10

Claims efficient heating and powerful cooling (from the manual and on the box). Ok how is it efficient? Uses 2000 watts of power on heat and you wont find this figure in the manual, someone claims it's good for toddlers because no fan blades, true but don't let them stick their hand into the heating element...burnies...Powerful cooling? well this rely s on how much you sweat, because it's just a fan, not a Powerful cooling unit. looks nice but this is all it's got going for it. Sorry Dyson stick to vacuum cleaners but if they're anything like this woeful product I'd give them a wide berth as well...

It's just a fan with a heater, it doesn't cool the air at all.
I think calling it "Hot+Cool" is misleading.

The problem with the Dyson Hot & Cool is that it has a fundamental flaw which Dyson does not seem to know how to fix. I bought one of these and after about 4 months use it developed a high pitched whining noise (rather irritating). Since it was under a 2 year warranty, I had it returned to Dyson and after some hassle, Dyson sent me a replacement, which I’ve been using now for about 3 months and it too has developed the same high pitched whining noise problem. Clearly this product is unreliable and it has been more trouble than it’s worth. Since there is still time left on the 2 year warranty, I shall return it to Dyson, to decide what they intend to do about it. I have lost all faith in this company and regret having bought it. Disappointing. I hope that Dyson just gives me a refund, rather than send me yet another one which will start to whine after about 3 months..... and then what ? Send it back to them again ?

Thanks for posting as I was seriously looking at buying one. No mention from Dyson what’s causing the whining?

  • @rickcostin

And as for Dysons latest bullshit... a digital motor....please explain ; The term "digital motor" appears to have been invented by Dyson for marketing purposes. The fundamental principal is the same as for all other electromagnetic motors. The specific type of motor used by Dyson has permanent magnets in the rotor and is called a brushless DC motor or a permanent-magnet synchronous motor. This is just like the POWERFUL COOLING jargon Dyson uses to sell the Hot+Cool....more bullshit .
