    I’ve been playing for almost 30 years Paul. I’ve been using the Internet to learn for about the past 10. You are by far the best guitar teacher I’ve seen on here. Thank you for all your dedication. Much love from San Francisco! 🏴

    Paul, the subtleties, nuances and tone of the Oswald are sublime in your hands. Now there has to be a philanthropist out there to coax you out to record an album with a wee combo cause you know we all would dig it. Imagine!🙏

      Have you done an album? Do you wanna do an Album ? Are you working on an Album ? 16k subscribers... how (?) Can we support this effort if you were interested ? And if this is not an interest of yours, thats ok. Just curious. Thanks : )

      Thanks crazywisdom2. It’s so nice to hear that there would be interest in an album. It’s not something I’m particularly pursuing, since I have no band 😊. So if I was to do it, it would be a very simple affair, with just me playing guitar, with no backing, a bit like my CZcams vids. But no plans at the moment, I’m just enjoying posting for CZcams. Cheers 😊

    Paul.. in 70 years, I never learned music, never had a lesson. Honestly I shouldn't be watching these, you are too good for me to learn anything from. I only play by ear.. I have few regrets in my life, I think one for sure, is I wish I had taken lessons. I lived off grid, and barely on the grid, and alone for so many years, I just never got into a position to do it. Yeah I wish.... I wish I had. I envy your knowledge. Thanks for sharing it.

    The Oswald awakens! Glorious tones abound, and could it be that this guitar has found it's amp? I'd say 'probably' and reserve further opinion until I hear it through the Marshall. Of course, the Cornell is my personal favourite amongst your amps so I am biased from the get go. Tonally here I just love that middle pickup. Now there's a statement you don't often hear about Strats. As 'clean' tones go this combo is pretty hard to beat. It might be nice to hear the Cornell and one of the other amps together, although it might be a bugger to record using your lovely simple set up.
    These 'Tricks of the Trade' have been really superb. I have already visited them more than once and will continue to do so until I have absorbed (STOLEN, if truth be known) as much as I can. It's the thought process as much as the dexterity that is so bloody impressive.

Fella comes home from work and his missus is standing in the hall wearing a very short negligee and nothing else, he says "oh yeah ! What's all this then ?", she says "happy birthday darling, you know how you've always wanted me to get a tattoo but i never fancied one, well I've finally got one just for you ", she turns round and and lifts up her negligee and she's got a W on each cheek, the husband explodes shouting " who the f.... is WW ?, she says "Don't be daft, when I bend over it spells WOW. I love your new Oswald hardtail strat...I'd order one, but I'm not worthy. I have a really nice Nash strat already, the only strat I've ever bonded with, but Nash just buys bodies, necks, hardware, and pickups, then puts it all together - giving it his "magic" (many others do it now too). Oswald makes everything himself, yet sells them for about the same as Nash, when he should be asking 2-3 times as much. Nacho Banos sells his for more - there is one of his telecasters on Reverb for ~$5K. At that price, Oswald will get so backordered he'll never keep-up with demand. I understand he does it out of love, not to make money, but he should charge market value. He is like a Stradavarius (Stratavarius?). That hardtail of yours sounds so sweet, because your love for it makes you play your best, and you are a great player anyways. With a dad like you have, I can understand how you got into music and guitars - quite a collection he has! I never liked strats until 15 years ago, when I found my used Nash hanging on the wall at Guitar Crazy in Portland. Wish it was a hardtail - don't use the wang-bar much, but the trem-block does change the sound and adds sustain, although maybe not as "woody"? That strat of yours just sounds SO good, your love for it makes your playing shine. Love listening - cheers!

      Thanks Jason 😊. As regards Jazz… I love jazzy lines and inflections within the blues etc…. But I can’t quite enjoy straight up jazz yet. For example I LOVE Julian Lage… he’s incredible. And yet 80% goes over my head. But that 20% ….. oh my god, he blows my mind.

    Hi Paul, that Oswald strat sounds wicked! what pickups are there in it? stock? Thanks!

    • @paulstaffordcook8799
      @paulstaffordcook8799  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks Migueltxum 👍. Nick Oswald built them and he calls them “Hot Oswald ‘62s” which are 5-10% overwound. But all three pickups also have baseplates, like a Tele bridge pickup”, which is not normal for Strats.

      @@paulstaffordcook8799 Thanks man, I guess it's a cmbination of wood, craftmanship, bridge, pickups and a fantastic player that does it all. But I was curious about those pickups. I guess now I need a hardtail strat...

  • @bastardsonofretkillr
    @bastardsonofretkillr Před 2 lety

    Do you know the readings of the pickups BTW sounds fantastic…I have a great Stratocaster with great pickups but I own a 1994 Albert Lee Musicman hard tail and the pickups need replacing would you recommend the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder Strat pickups or ???? Something else…your Romany amp is fantastic….in my past I’ve always love 2x6v6 pickups best but that 1x6L6 Romany amp is magic sounding in America we have Allen Amplifier that make a Chihuahua amp Blackface and tweed with reverb

      @paulstaffordcook8799  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks Dale! I’m not sure of the DCR readings…. But I know two things (1) when I swap my guitars around between my Gibsons, Tele and then Strat I’m experiencing the same overall volume between guitars (whereas my old custom shop 60’s Strat was noticeably quieter in output), and (2) Nick says he wound them deliberately 5-10% hotter than his normal Oswald 62s, PLUS all three pickups have baseplates, adding to the output. 👍

    • @meadish
      @meadish Před 2 lety

      @@paulstaffordcook8799 I suspect baseplates can be a bit of a Strat pickup secret sauce. I picked up a really cheap Strat copy for a song, a wiggle and a frivolous tap-dance, and didn't expect much but was actually impressed by the pickups. Turned out somebody had modded the cheap pickups with baseplates which is why they sounded so punchy... almost P90 like.

      Hi Alwyn. I’m actually not sure how to answer that…. because diminished chords are the same every three frets up the neck…. And so I’ve no idea which note you would call the route. Best I can suggest is to slow my CZcams video down and see exactly where my fingers are going, cheers 😊

      Hi Gilles 👋. Yes, I thought that might peek your interest 🤣. It seems my last Strat (the white custom shop) must just have been the wrong match for me. This one was a custom “built to order” from Dutch luthier Nick Oswald. I absolutely adore it. Cheers Gilles, nice to see you stopping by the channel.
