    Hi Paul ! Greetings from Akron , Ohio USA ! So nice to watch your videos . I think I like the tone of the Tele with the Romany amp the best of all your gear . In this clip you made some great use of the major scale , it is so easy to play penatonic endlessly .. Some times when I get stuck , I play some classical spanish music to get me in a different mind set . I am not great at it , but it opens doors to other new tones . After a 1/2 hour of that I can go back to the Blues with a different attack . I do the same with Jazz sometimes , backing of the tone knob , slowing down , and going for the feel . Remember there is a scale in every chord , in every form of that chord . Cheers , have a great day , and say Hi to all my friends in Scotland !

    I learn something every time I watch you, putting it into practice is my problem. As Eric Morecombe said...I play all the right notes not necessarily in the right order

      @paulstaffordcook8799  Před 2 lety

      Hi Neil, hope you’re well. Yes, I often wonder if Eric Morecambe knows just how fundamental he is in English culture 🤣. Cheers Neil, keep at it.

    • @Nikoo033
      @Nikoo033 Před 2 lety

      Hi Neil, one could also consider that there isn’t necessarily a “right” order, but rather an order that appeals to you first of all, and then secondly possibly to an audience. It can take some time to start enjoying someone else’s tunes for example, but I am sure the artist did like what he produced 😊. We are 7 billions on this Earth. If what you play pleases you, then I am sure there are more people who would like it too. 😉

  • @ianhaskins4619

    Superb playing as always Paul. It makes me think I need to learn the CAGED system for all chord shapes first before trying to arpeggiate the inversions. Time for some homework!

      Thanks Ian. I’ve heard players talk about the CAGED system… no idea what it is 🤣, (haven’t really bothered to find out), but I’m sure it certainly wouldn’t hurt your playing to explore stuff like that. Happy noodling Ian 👍

  • @stratpod
    @stratpod Před 2 lety

    that was brilliant, your not telling me anything i don't know, but i didn't know i knew until you showed me, hehehe as soon as you lay the full chord shape on the fretboard i get it , but when i only see the run of notes your playing my brain just goes nup, this , as i'm sure affects a lot of people, is the result of not learning the basics first eg CAGED scales etc.....so i have no reference to fall back on when i cant figure something out, so lazy ba*tard that i am move onto something else. and it's difficult to try and learn backwards, but i keep learning something new every now and again, in no small measure to watching your vids, so as always many thanks for posting and thanks for "the awakening" :) cheers mate

      @paulstaffordcook8799  Před 2 lety +1

      Excellent, glad you liked it Charlie. Yeah, it’s quite reassuring to think that a lot of the “flash” is actually just playing the single notes from a chord shape, with a couple of passing notes thrown in. 🤣

    There was a young man from Auld Reekie, when he played it wasn't so keechie, he picked up his axe plugged in his jack, and showed the world his chops dead easy. My God Paul two videos in one week, has the worms returned ? Hehe. One night I was sleeping soundly when I got woken up with a fright, looked at the clock and it was 4 a.m. and there was someone banging on the front door, pulled on a dressing gown and went downstairs and opened the door, the fella said " sorry pal can you give me a push ?", I said " you arsehole, it's 4 in the morning, piss right off", and slammed the door, I was going back upstairs when I got a guilty consentious and I thought to myself maybe the poor guy's stranded, went back down and opened the door but he was gone, so I shouted " I'm sorry mate for shouting at you, off course I give you a push , where are you ?, and a voice shouted from across the road " I'm over here on the swings". Take care kid.

    I’ve seen Eric Johnson twice and met him, been a big fan of him and very inspired by his playing since 85 But sadly he has become very repetitive, and seems to be stuck in a rut in my opinion, l suppose it happens to all the great guitarist at some point, running over the same old ground, The same could apply to your playing Paul but You give out a magical energy using a guitar and amp, doesn’t really matter what you play, if it moves the spirit then you are doing something right, keep doing it 🎸🎶🎸🎶🎸🎶

    Funny how the more advanced we get in playing, going back to the simpler things can straighten out so many roadblocks.
    I just watched a video of Stevie Ray Vahnn and Albert King doing Don't Lie To Me and Albert was kidding Stevie about his "Not too bad playing skills".Lol
    I think the video was done back in the 70s or 80s, but it illustrates how two legendary guitar players, with amazing skills, just kick it with the simplest techniques.
