Not at all surprised with the Celtic tones in E. I think Em, B, and Bm would all play nicely together in that band.👌
They may seem a bit out of sorts, but the rub brings them all together.🙂
You said one of the most important things here, "It doesn't matter if you don't know what it is when you are playing in the moment because you can work it out later, as long as it sounds good." So true. The flow of the moment is how timeless music is made. Every band interview has at least one story of how they were just jamming and a particular lick just sent them down a road that turned into a favorite tune. The only time we really need to be specific is while playing/recording with people who are not familiar with what we're doing.
I'm sure you and your band mates started jamming and someone says, what is that, and off you all go.
Always my favorite part of playing.

  • @gangnamstylegrandpa6352

Hi Paul ! Greetings from Akron , Ohio USA ! We all have our own music theory , If we didn't then we wouldn't be able to play . Sometimes it comes in different languages and signs from the heart and soul . Sometimes it a match of math , heart and muscle dexterity . @@paulstaffordcook8799 Wow, what a coincidence that is. I was going to mention that article to you. That was right after Mick Taylor did the CZcams video.I have a copy of that magazine here. My amp also appeared in Vintage Guitar a few years earlier. I ended up selling the amp to a shop in London. The guy said that it was for him, but I had my doubts about that. The shop ended up being a “middle man” for the amp, as it went to someone else. The guy would not tell me who actually owns the amp now. I wish that I knew. Is there a way for us to communicate by our personal emails? Wait a second, this is a recent issue of Guitarist? I would love to see what that’s about. Mine (funny I still call it my amp) was serial #128, delivered in December, 1986, after a 5 month wait. I still have a Christmas card or two from Dumble. I’d like to be able to email you directly. The amp was featured in Guitarist Magazine Issue #416, February 2017. I thought you were referring to this issue. I would just love to know who owns it currently. Why was it in the Guitarist that you saw? Thank you, very interesting, the saga continues.

Fantastic...I play something similar that I've been messing around with....but you've opened up some very cool ideas that I can use to expand what I'm already doing...i love moody melancholic chords...I stole most of mine from listening to Johnny Marr of the smiths...but this lesson out jangles even him....thanks for sharing your idea's ...I cannot watch one of your videos without wanting to pick up my guitar..I know as far as I'm aware you haven't mentioned him as an influence...but .I'm hearing a lot of Richard Thompson in your playing I think its the celtic thing...if you haven't listened to him I reckon you would love his stuff...I cannot recommend one album of his in particular as like Mark knopler Richard Thompson hasn't really ever done a bad album ever....he rarely gets mentioned when ever list of great players but I think he is one of Britain's greatest song writers and guitar players ...OK I'll recommend listening on you tube to live versions of shoot out the lights....or maybe calvery cross...or...Wall of death...

My Dad did mention he met you while out walking - he said you were looking “well, fit and strong” (or something like that 🤣). I was actually thinking about you the other day….. I was camping up on the hill above the south shore of Loch Earn, and I remembered going away for a couple of days with your family to visit your Uncle? (Uncle Jake rings a bell). @@paulstaffordcook8799 Thanks for the well wishes Paul!! Yeah, I bought a Squier Affinity SSS and Fender Mustang LT25 modeling amp for my birthday last year and although I've had a back surgery and I'm probably going to be playing sitting for quite a while, I'll still be playing right? So I'm subscribing to your channel. I love you're playing, but it's not just that.
I like you're enthusiasm for the instrument and you're personality. You've got a great humility about you, a sign of good character. Plus I love you're speaking voice. You're accent is pleasant and you just seem cool.
Don't we all kinds divide people into 2 groups. Those who are cool and those who aren't? Right? So yeah, I like your style mate, cheers to you and I'll be seeing you. You'll probably see my comments. I'm recovering in a nursing home in Miami and everyone around me speaks Spanish. I speak very little so I love to hear the English language and I feel compelled to communicate with people who can understand or even appreciate whatever happens to pass through my mind at any given time.
Thanks for responding too , Tomo Fujita and Marty Schwartz are about the only other 2 who bother with that courtesy.
Don't get me wrong, Beato, Tyler Larson, Rob Baker, Paul Davids, and you know, the CZcams guitar community can all be helpful but I always get responses from Tomo. Marty Schwartz sometimes but alot of other guys are too busy. Either that or they don't think much about what I have to say 😂🤣
I'm mostly kidding and I'm pretty thick skinned anyway...I don't get offended easily.
So yeah, cheers and I'm gonna' hit subscribe and turn on all notifications and we'll see if I can learn some theory. I'm one of those who's not only had to quit playing for years but on my best day I could only jam in minor pentatonic 😂 Typical I know but I'm working hard on understanding the instrument.
Ok, enough outta me, thanks again for being cool enough to reply.
P.S. I don't know ANYTHING about you. I read that you toured for many years or something like that. It's possible I know you but just don't know where I should know you from?
In any case, I'm going to subscribe now before I get interrupted and forget 😂 I'll see ya mate! 🎸🎶🎵✌️❤️🙏

Thanks Stan, it sounds like you’ve been through a bit of an ordeal with your back… I wish you the fastest recovery. Thank goodness guitar playing is something we can do sitting down 🤣.

@@paulstaffordcook8799 Yeah, thanks goodness for being drawn to an instrument that not only allows one to play seated, that's essential in my case. But drummers! They sit but they have to be athletes right? Contort their bodies in a way that would riddle me with pain.
So that thing that always mystified me about the guitar as a kid. Or that thing that drummers feel calling them that didn't speak to me as loudly. I never knew there'd come a day where I'd be unable to stand strapped into a 6 # instrument but I really am glad I didn't feel drawn (or coordinated enough 😂) to REALLY be a drummer.
So it all worked out pretty well I think. I'm super positive and rarely mention my health. Sometimes it just comes out but my intention is never to receive pity , not when I'm doing better than probably 98% of the worlds population.
      Relatively speaking I'm extremely fortunate!
Plus, you can't pity a guy with a new and decent guitar and amp. I have this little Fender Mustang LT25 modeling amp with 30 preset effects that are all adjustable with the amount of gain, chorus, reverb, delay... little practice amp but I can't afford a bunch of peddles or a processor right now, so it's perfect for my purposes. It's got a simulated acoustic that's really close in tone as well. Oh , and I play a Fender Squier Affinity SSS right now... good instrument for that price range!
So I'm doing great!! I've been surprised by life often enough. It's not my prognosis to never walk again, just temporarily out of commission but I should be able in time.
Thanks mate, keep up the good work! You really have a unique style and I enjoy your playing as much as anything I've heard, sincerely right? You play beautifully, it makes me want to dig in and practice. I wish you nothing but the best life has to offer. Cheers man! 🎸✌️🎶❤️🙏

Nice sounds-the steely dan chord would be E/A, so fret an open E but take your finger off the 5th string and use open A as the root

Thank you Kevin. And to answer your question….. It arrived TODAY, 4hrs ago. It’s stunning, and it’s genuinely surpassed my expectations in how it sounds and plays! I’m over the moon! So I will try and get a wee review of it up on CZcams this weekend 👍
