My guitar teacher taught me the A Major scale. We would practice this religiously at the beginning of each lesson. When you played it, it clicked in me, he was a huge Eric Johnson fan and now it all makes sense.

Hi Paul , greetings from Akron , Ohio USA ! Hoping you and your family are healthy and doing well . Eric Johnson is one of my favorite guitar players , because he is so tasteful in his playing . He has a calmness about him , that makes everything sound smooth instead of frantic . Bordering on Jazz , but his own flavor . Another fine video . I think this lockdown has made you an even better and more advanced player . Don't forget , you promised me backstage passes on your world tour ! Keep safe !

Eric Johnson impressed me with his sheer musicality, he soars with melodic grace - I remember watching the DVD's from the 90's (Star licks or something!) He claims to use pentatonic scales a great deal - which matches what you describe here.

Fantastic Paul, love your videos and your honesty. I know how you feel about trying to perfect some of these disciplines. I had been learning 'Oh Well' by Peter Green, i can't tell you how long it took me to get fairly close, but you are correct about taking things slowly to begin with but i feel your frustration. Oh yes, Cliffs of Dover from Eric Johnson's appearance on Austin City Limits is required listening! Great video, Paul. I originally came to your channel for the Katana stuff, but that Marshall Astoria, the 335, and you are a great combo. A great CZcams rabbit hole to go down when you get time is Troy Grady's channel. He's got a series of really well done videos where he analyzes aspects of Eric Johnson's technique mainly through that Austin City Limits performance. The videos are more for technique rather than melodic content, but still very interesting.

Hi Paul ! Greetings from Akron , Ohio USA ! Wow ! This video did it for me , I am so impressed with your performance , I feel like I felt the first time I heard Jimi Hendrix . Not that Eric Johnson plays the same style of music as Jimi Hendrix , but because the music was so different than anything I had heard previously .I have never really paid much attention to Eric Johnson because he always seemed so advanced than anything I was used to playing ! It is easier to dismiss something, than to work hard to learn it ! You have opened up my ears , thank you so much for demystifying his intention ! Now , I need to study Jeff Beck , and Eric Johnson , who are both guitar genius ! After all , we are all human , and should be able to learn and understand , right ? I need to stop being a lazy guitar player !!

Hi Paul. Another Johnson (Jack) uses a similar concept in an acoustic strumming context in Better Together. He runs down the E major scale in barre chords - E, E/D#, C#m, B, A, A/G#, F#m, and back to B and round again. It's a good barre chord workout!

very pretty, , when you first started, i'm thinking to myself, feck if i only knew the chords i wouldn't have to worry about the note sequence , which you nicely explained was the secret , just annoying that i don't spend more time thinking about the theory, for me it really is the stumbling block for me progressing to a level which i'm satisfied with, , but does anyone every truly reach that level ? i guess it doesn't really matter if you can still get pleasure from your playing, thankfully the only person i have to please is myself,, there must be so much pressure with guys like Tom Bukovac who have to pull it all out 100% day in day out, but then again, maybe it gets easier the more you learn. You know for 8 fecking notes, the sure take up a load of brain power :) anywhoo, thanks for posting, and who cut yer hair BTW :) stay sane stay safe mate

Sounds great and I believe it’s a perfect mix of learning and music. I’m getting sick of being stuck in the same old pentatonic scale but just different keys depending on the backing tracks.
