- Watch the recording of Epic Games’ talk from GDC 2023, ‘Creating Your First Game in Fortnite with UEFN’.
Fortnite has become an ecosystem where anyone can create and publish their own games. In fact, nearly half of all time spent in Fortnite already takes place in games and experiences that have been created by players using the Fortnite Creative toolset.
Our mission is to build on this and empower anyone to create games and experiences in Fortnite to be enjoyed by millions of players.
To date, that has meant reusing Fortnite assets and combining existing devices-Fortnite’s primary building blocks for authoring game mechanics-to express one's vision. But what if you want to go further: import your own assets, script your own logic, or create worlds beyond Fortnite’s style?
That's what we answer and demonstrate in this talk, by providing an introduction to UEFN- a version of Unreal Editor that can create and publish experiences directly to Fortnite. Read more: dev.epicgames.com/community/l...

Thank you for this amazing tutorial, but i have one question, do you know how to remove the max height barrier?
Hi, I have a question. It is not very clear in the demonstration. 27:18
When you start testing, how did the 2 players join the game?
And more importantly... could this map be tested with only one user in the team?
I love the Editor and have a great time so far. Its easy and much fun create materials, Import models from blender and design worlds for the games. But i still cant publish my work and play with friends... Iam not able to get in the creator program... Epic says i need the creator program to publish my work and play with friends... Without i only can play the private version with the team.
Absolutely amazing
There are many things in this that are just rushed past because I know you guys are on a time crunch but this tutorial didn't really do anything but show me the potential of this, which I guess is useful for that.
Please do another big marketing push when fab is finally available.
45:38 Could you release that Verse talk's video as well? Thank you.
It was funny listening to those people trying to answer questions but constantly referring them to websites or other talks.
My first game being the whole chapter 1 season 8 map💀
Major decision to replace Blueprints with verse, let’s hope it’s for the best
Bro.. how do you remove landscape or anything in the first place, it's not clear?
Hi, can you export data from game? for example the game above, can the game email a list of the winning players that made it across to the yacht for ALL instances to a 3rd party spreadsheet like googlesheets?
If you haven't seen it in Fortnite, it probably can't.
Well is it me or thers too who are not getting Niagara or any other options when right clicking in the content browser? I'm only getting Fab option. I cant even create a new folder.
verse blueprint editor pls. Or better, wrap it with GPT to overcome all the syntax pain with natural language or pseudocode at least
ikr, i dont want to learn yet another language just for fortnite
@@thecontaminatedone6094 that's why nodes are pure love, u don't have to learn any language or syntax. Tim said verse is coming built-in in 2025. I just hope it comes with blueprint nodes but without the bottlenecks. So people could get hired only knowing blueprints.
Nice
Is it just me or does fog not work in UEFN?
42:50 is that you gamesfromscratch this guy sounds oddly familiar
Has anybody build this? I try to follow along, but I don't understand how the pieces are meant to break.
It was supposed to happen due to the Niagara effects, but when I right click to create on I only get FAB option.
get it working for, chromebook and consoles!! we are all waiting
how come blueprint is not supported at all...T
If BP is available, what will people use Verse for?
Hmm, I don't know what to think about this presentation. I don't understand why I should prefer Verse instead of the Blueprint System and why UEFN instead of UE5.
In addition, the title of the presentation sounds like a tutorial but was more a showcase and unfortunately, the Q&A at the end wasn't really insightful. Most question(er)s couldn't be answered correctly and were more forwarded to visit other showcases.
Pushing off questions to later talks/showcasing is great for the people there but not the people watching the video 2 months later on CZcams 🥹
Rtfm?
I think, many of our old Fortnite map Creators, will miss the simplicity (and fun), of our old Creative 1.0, when they try to switch from Creative 1.0, to learn the overly complex UEFN CREATIVE 2.0, and UnReal Engine 5, on PCs, and soon on consoles. UEFN is splitting our Fortnite Creative building community in half. Is that a good thing… or not?
But, I guess, if you want to land on the moon… you have to give up airplanes, and create Space Ships to get there. But, making a space ship… takes a lot of time and work!!
I would suggest, any NEW map creators, starting in Fortnite Creative to build their very first map… should learn Creative 1.0 first, before going directly into CREATIVE 2.0, and UEFN. Otherwise… most of those all NEW builders to Fortnite, will find something less complex than UEFN to build with. I know I would!
So…. If you wanted to buy a new FORD car or truck, and FORD required you to become a master mechanic first, to buy a new car from FORD… wouldn’t you just go down the street to HONDA, and get your new car there without the hassle?
This is really bad advice. The new 2.0 tools is meant to simplify the process of creating worlds, besides you can still use 1.0 editing style with 2.0 all the same when you run a play test. It syncs the changes.
@@DevTechSpectrum Your advice totally misses those creators still on consoles. If a new “PC” creator wants to skip the basics, so be it. At least… CREATIVE 2.0 will be coming to the PS5, and I hope the xBox in the near future, as per EPIC’s Donald Mustard.
@@jameswells4965 What I said was not advice because I'm not telling people to do a certain thing. I don't understand "skipping the basics" when it's just two different ways of doing the same thing.
Either way, it doesn't matter, people will work with what's most comfortable with them and that's fine.
@@DevTechSpectrum Then… we agree to disagree.
Ive fairly new to uefn and have started building maps (maps not for publish) and slowly transitioned to uefn, but know how to use devices and such really helped the transition
Cry Engine had this stuff years ago.
Yea but you couldn’t deploy into Fortnite and have it run on all consoles to play with your friends in minutes.

PLEASE GET THIS WORKING FOR APPLE USERS WE WANT TO CREATE TOO. Such a huge group of us waiting…
Lol buy a pc already.
Probably has to do with the apple v epic lawsuit
Dualboot windows using the boot camp app. Performance will be better on all your games
i am downloading uefn on my mac right now using bootcamp
25 years !!! he begins at gae of 6 hhh
Hardly anyone there in the audience...shame, we need better programmers and this really is a stepping stone to better programmers
Oh and partner with the ADL. Lol.
epic games, why ban players under the age of 18 from making islands in a team? If I send you my parent's passport, for example? What nonsense (how to destroy Fortnite manual)
How does epic games make money? easy, you drag drop advertisement billboards around the game. as soon as gamers see billboard or see ads on screen. yeah. it won't be google sense or CZcams video squeezing over your screen. Let users watch the billboard. they will buy anything they see on the screen.
Bro is Hallucinating
