Making this shirt for my Stage Makeup and Costume class and the collar/ facing part had me pulling my hair out. Your video was what I needed to wrap my mind around it. Thank you.

The pattern of this fabric is a piece of art ! You can just hang on the wall and watch it🤩 Great job as always !

This turned out really really amazing! Button ups are hard to construct. Especially from those Simplicity patterns. So confusing. But you made it cropped and boxy which is so unique and special! I’m actually jealous of your collar. Mine are always a struggle loll

I am a quilter so I noticed right away that your fabric has women quilting, That fabric is EVERYTHING! The way you cut your pattern pieces is called "fussy cutting" in the quilting world. I love it!

Cute! Love the mods you did to the pattern. The pattern of the fabric is forgiving too!

Dude, you didn't make this for my intended purpose but it's helped tremendously. I've done barely any sewing in my life, picked it up in the last two weeks with an old hand crank and decided for some reason to try this shirt. None of the terminology in the pattern makes sense to me, and having this video to follow along has answered all of the questions I've had. Your shirt looks great, too. Cheers!

Just found and love you! I cut my first button up shirt fronts too narrow too but I got around it by adding an extended placket and you’d never know 😉 You could’ve added tabs and buttons like you did on your sleeveless vest maybe?

Thank goodness you made this video! I purchased a pattern Simplicity S9157 which is missing the instructions and I have no clue how to put this shirt together. I am hoping to get the instructions from the manufacturer but they are not in full operation and employees are working remotely from home due to Corona. If you could do a little more on this particular shirt pattern you used or show the instruction sheet for construction of the shirt, I would truly be forever thankful. (it is really a great shirt pattern and fun to use a variety of fabrics and prints with!) I would very much enjoy learning more about constructing the men's shirt with the interfacing on the front shirt instead of the usual fold over edges of fabric we usually have for them. The finish was very nice and it looks like the collar lined up well.

I’m glad I found you because now I know what it’s supposed to look like!!!😜🤣👍🏽
I got it in! But can’t wear it out!!
For my first practice collar I chose pjs for a kiddo! next time I know what it should be looking like!!

I got so used to like using homemade patterns that commercial patterns are harder and making shirts even harder.
There aren't very many sewing channels geared toward like guys and stuff so I appreciate it. I have made the same mistake so I just added a zipper and it kinda worked?

Many years ago, I had a boyfriend who had worn through a Calvin Klein button up shirt, I mean, the fabric was literally shredding. He would not throw it away because he couldn't find another similar to it and he just loved that shirt. I called Calvin Klein, and they basically laughed in my face that I was looking for one of their shirts from 10 years ago-- "lady, we don't even have last season's items." So I decided to sew a replacement. I got a Vogue Perry Ellis pattern and did 2 at the same time, because although I was a very experienced sewer, I had never done that kind of thing before, and wanted to make sure I ended up with at least one decent shirt.
I'm sure the pattern, being designer Vogue, was much better than this Simplicity one (my late children's designer aunt swore by Vogue and McCalls patterns, with Butterick as a second, and did not think much of Simplicity. Now they are all the same company.). But what really made the difference was that I got the book "Shirtmaking", by David Coffin. You really have to READ it, not just browse for hints. But those shirts looked very professional, and the boyfriend was puzzled as to "why did you cut out the tags?" Can't tell you how much I recommend that book for anyone thinking of making a button up "Oxford" style shirt.
