You are right, videos like this help other people. I am (a lot) older than you, but youtube videos helped me decided to transition. I saw that there were other "normal" trans people out there. Your videos are also affirming, it is comforting to see other trans people just being. Thanks!

I live in "stealth" cause I live in a traditionally conservative midwestern state and I have found most people around here can accept someone who is gay or lesbian but have real trouble accepting someone who is trans. Think I have told a dozen people in 25+ years.. Sometimes I think it all depends on your circle and sometimes from my experience I think it's best to "feel" people out on the subject before you tell them.

I liked this! I think it really is videos like this that helps trans people find the confidence to live their lives more authentically.
Also, I think you're right in that finding ways to be more public in your trans identity will definitely help to make safer places and experiences. I'm trying to make sure I'm doing the same when I can.
Also, it seems that when trans people get to a point when they can easily fit into the binary, they seem to disappear and I feel like its so important for these people to be more visible. It's like being able to see that proof? You know?
Like every trans persons experience and life path is different but if I could have met or seen more trans women who were years into their lives, it would have let me relax and feel like life might actually turn out. Instead, I've found most of the people that are visible are those who are also reaching out (often in time of crisis) and while that's also important, it means most trans people starting their journey are prone to seeing a lot of negative experiences which builds so much anxiety about this journey.
    Thanks for making this.

    • @boonewilliams5338
      @boonewilliams5338  Před 2 lety +1

Oh gosh, thank you for this incredibly lovely comment. You bring up such a salient point, and it makes me a bit emotional to consider. Those who are new to their transition are really forced to be visible, and I feel like the beginning stretch of a transition is *often* the most anxiety-inducing and generally difficult period. It seems way too common that many vulnerable trans people end up bonding with each other over shared trauma. I could do a whole other video on the issues of substance abuse, mental health, and drug-dominated social environments that revolve around the shared experiences of being outcast by society...
I just hope I, you, and many others can help set examples of a happy ending.
      Because they exist.
      Thank you, again 💛 :)

But leaving these videos up as guidance and support for those that are starting their own transitions is a courageous and selfless decision, particularly in this political moment. I get what mean about considering deleting your channel and just going stealth, it would make perfect sense on one level, that you would be spared any discrimination as a transwoman. ( and just have regular old discrimination for being a perceived as a cisgender woman) I think when I was younger that would have my dream but I didn't come out until later in life and now that I have I really don't think going stealth is what younger people think it's cracked up to be. I imagine it involves a lot of secrecy and not even telling people close to you a pretty fundamental part of who you are. For me that would be just as bad as never coming out. The ability to honest with myself and others about who and what I am is a big part of why I came out. I applaud your decision to stay visible and therefore help others.👍👍👍👍

I completely understand the decision that many make to stay in stealth. Safety is a very, very real concern (as well as a number of other factors), however, the more time passes since I decided to stay public about this, the more confident I feel with it. Being transgender is by no means the most important part of who I am, and it certainly isn't a personality trait, but it's undeniably affected my life and is a significant part of my life that I no longer wish to hide.
I really appreciate you sharing your feelings and your perspective :)

@@boonewilliams5338 I wouldn't judge anyone who goes stealth either and like I said I probably would have chosen to do that if it had possible when I was younger but I think there's a trade off in having to be secretive for the rest of your life that most people don't realize. I think it just comes with its own challenges. I really like your channel, without being too bitchy a lot of other channels by transwomen seem to revolve around the same three topics " Does liking transwomen make me gay." " The surgery " and " how to date a transwoman " these topics often seem to be of more interest to cisgender people than us and that's fine and all but it's refreshing to see a channel like yours, keep on doing what you do!

So here is a prime example of why the concept of transgender is having so many difficulties.
Straight : basic, simple, easy to understand
Gay : opposite of straight, but still simple
Bisexual: likes both, not as simple, but fairly easy to understand.
Transgender: infinite variables, basic language no longer applies
Gay, lesbian, and bisexual people have had a hard enough time being accepted and having to fight for rights they had in the first place but weren’t respected.
Then comes transgender and words no longer have meaning.
Man is now woman. Wait, what?
Uncle Harry ( hairy) with full beard puts on a sun dress is instantly a woman. Not an easy sell.
Alex has surgery, hormones, and becomes Alexandria. That’s much easier to understand whether she’s known to be transgender or not.
Of course there are variations in between Harry and Alexandria.
    Pronouns:
He or she is simple enough to understand. Might be a bit much to expect folks to call Harry “she”, but go for it. I would personally think hairy Harry lost a football bet and respond with “sir” or “princess” in the same conversation while complimenting the shoes and nails.
They: where’s “they” at ? I only see one person. I learned to count to one accurately years ago.
    MTF gay lesbian: what !?!?!?
“Mathematically” that adds up to a straight guy. But looks like a girl.
A transgender person is a human being and deserves the rights and respect that any other human does.
It is very difficult to get that respect or gain acceptance when the entire dictionary no longer has any meaning. Things won’t improve if people can’t communicate.
I spent a large part of my career keeping aircraft in the sky safely.
Airline travel may not fare so well if the sky becomes the ground.
I’m a straight male. I find women attractive. I find some trans women attractive.
Be who you’re gonna be. Be you with whomever is compatible for you.

  • @MariWakocha
    @MariWakocha Před 3 lety +1

You mention how the trans part of your identity often comes before and maybe overshadow the lesbian part of your identity. I think when you tell people you're trans, they might assume you're already in a much wider world of gender, with friends from all over the spectrum (this part may be true for many ofc) and that gender wouldn't matter as much to you as a trans person because of it. And to some extent some would also think that since you are gay now you were "born straight" and it's more natural for a trans person to be gay, and thus less of a deal. No one has ever said this to me directly, but I've gotten the feeling that this is a way people think. Most people around me don't know much about what it means to be trans, and neither did I a few years ago, so most conversations I've had about it have been quite... interesting. Little do my friends know they're about to learn more.
Also, talk about cartoons. Cartoons are nice. :)
