Funny how Adam loves history but doesnt want to participate in a once in a lifetime event
Oh wow that's funny
@@TheRealJBoss hilarious
Or know Roman Numerals
The eclipse talk was hilarious. Adam becoming the grumpy old man on these things is my favorite character development great show guys.
It's not development... He's always been this way. Worst part of the show
Adam is now a grumpy old man who gets mad when other people get excited about things
And we love it
He's always been a contrarian ass. It's pathetic
Reverse development arc, lmao. (Love you, Adam.)
If you dont get to see the total eclipse, its pretty whatever. having seen the total eclipse last time though, its really pretty impressive.
Impressive is a wild word to describe it lol
I had one of the most crappy day of travelling ever, the traffic was so bad (5 hours back and forth turned into 10). And yet, seeing the eclipse in kinda my backyard was amazing. I wouldn't travel around the world for the next one, but I'm glad I saw this one.
The Bob Cole he told me his name is reference will never get old.
Any idea what episode Steve originally tells this story?
Regarding the eclipse, there's also a ton of science that can be done during an eclipse that can't be done at other times
I went to the Eclipse at Niagara today. I'm from Vancouver. The fact that the clouds covered the span of totality was so disappointing, but the fact that it got pitch black and stupid cold was so worth it. Plus I got a lot of cool pictures
I'm in Ontario but also went to Niagara for the eclipse. I feel the same way, pretty disappointing that you could only see the totality for a few seconds because of the clouds, but the experience was still worth it!
I was in Syracuse and yeah was hella bummed but seeing it at like 99 percent partial was pretty cool. The coolest part for me was seeing the moon's shadow race across the sky
Brady Tkachuk could use a clean shave after he got his balls all twisted.
Imaging the Sens showing this amount of fight during the games instead.
Well done.
Eclipses deserve the Elmo voice
Empty net goals should be banned by Player’s Safety
Shhhhh!! It's Bettman and Parose they might
Should ban sticks as well for all the blood they shed
its the only way to protect the players it seems
@bvyup2112 I'm about to just start watching the WHL the women actually know how to throw hits
@@sheaandrus-oak6546 id be cruious to see the reaction to this exact play in the WHL
The Eclipse was an experience that was worth traveling 6 hours back and forth, on back to back days, nursing a cold from watching a 2 and a half hour baseball game. Seeing the sun get blacked out, seeing a white ring around it, and seeing the sun's Corona(which was how we discovered Helium) was truly a magical moment. A total Solar eclipse like ours is the most insane cosmic coincidence ever. The Sun being 400 times bigger than the moon but also being 400 times farther away is the stuff that would make you believe in a simulation or a creator. No other planet in our solar system or any other solar system has that level of coincidence. It was everything it was hyped up to be and more.
Well put! Yes it was. I almost need a whole new set of adjectives to describe it.
As a Sens fan, you guys were right on about the whole empty net etiquette discussion. Brady was his typical over the top self and this time it made him look stupid lol. Still wouldn’t trade him for almost anything
You need guys like that. I'd rather have a guy you have to constantly dial back than a guy you have to keep kicking in the ass to go.
@@anthonyricher 100%
"Kucherov has been on the ice for A LOT of goals against" the Lightning had Jonas Johansson as their starting goaltender for 2 months. He is a +8 for the season. Brayden Point and Steven Stamkos are a -14 and a -23 respectively. You cant just use goals against here, it does not tell the whole story.
I went to niagara fallls. There is a massive difference between partial eclipses and total. Totality is something you just cant describe. Almost everyone who has adam's view, flips 180 into awe and amazement when they expirience. One of the rare things that humble's you and videos, pictures, depections, or write ups will ever be able to compare to it. I also chase storms and tornadoes (one day). Also cant go blind with totality, thats the only time you can see it without glasses and seeing the corona of the sun (only time you can view it. Great show though as always!
clear and sunny in the east coast eclipse was fantastic
"XIII, which is 9" -- Adam, confidently.
"Accidentally locking eyes with a stranger, but the stranger is GOD!" BWHAHAHAHA! The best quote.
Congratulations on 100k team!!
I did not know there was a ding on the set and now I cannot unsee it. Thank you, Steve.
I think theres a lot of reasons people chase down eclipses, mainly because a full eclipse really is something you will remember for the rest of your life. But other reasons too, like doing astrophotography of it for example.
Gratz on 100k!!!
Congrats on 100k guys 🧡
absolute hypocrisy from sens fans it’s honestly kinda a big joke, it’s like the nhl script writers wanted to see how moronic they could truly be, besides the obvious august cup
That is definitely the funniest intro out of all the pods so far 🤣
30 year bulk took me out 🤣
Congrats guys! 💪🏻
I enjoyed the eclipse especially watching with my parents who won't see another one they fully embraced the eclipse
Congratulations on 100K friends!!
Congrats on the plaque, you guys earned it!
heyyy congratulations team SDPN! you've been absolutely integral to getting me into hockey, and my friends and I talk about your takes regularly. Thank you for being so much fun, you make the sport so much more accessible and exciting!
Adam coming through with the only objectively correct take about the eclipse.
Yeahhh, I have to say, with no expectations, we went up and took the kids out of school. It was crystal clear in Rangeley Maine, and it was something you can’t capture in a video online. It’s hard to describe how the light changes, you actually see animals like birds reacting to the change in real time, the air temperature drops noticeably…. It only lasts a few minutes, but, it was really something to experience, and it was neat that we got to share it with the family, as it will not happen here again in my lifetime most likely.
I’m over 40 and I wouldn’t be able to answer anything about dragon ball z either. I know it’s a thing but I know literally nothing about it lol
Congrats on 100K I’m proud of Scarborough, all the way here in Winnipeg
Congrats on the 100k. You guys deserve it. I've been a LA Kings fan for decades. I found you channel because of Hat Picks and Dang It's (really miss those). Somehow you made me feel emotionally invested in what happens to the Leafs.
Congratulations on receiving your Silver CZcams plaque. 100 000 people. I’m happy to be a subscriber and keep up the great work guys😀
Did you know that there was a famous Canadian Astronomer by the name of John Campbell who was a Eclipse chaser. He went to over a dozen locations to be in line for the Eclipse and every location he went too, was a cloudy day
SDP ROCKS
loving the half sleeve tat you're putting together there Steve
You guys gotta hang it in frame for the podcasts
He does all that running - you've never run by a Goku poster?!!?!?!?!?!
- Steven 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
haven’t even started the episode yet, and i’m already anxious about how the boys are gonna react to empty net part two
Ayo your playoff videos are great!
100K. That is impressive. I give you guys heck sometimes, but you obviously are doing a good job. Keep it up! Also, when you do the "who he play for" game next episode, please also do the "name players who are a point per game" game.
That DBZ refrence was hilarous and on point!
Adam's rant about the eclipse just comes across as standard ragebait. He probably knows exactly why people are interested in it but because HE is not, he decided to turn it into a whole thing to farm clicks and comments. I mean we all know damn well that's gonna be turned into a YT short or TikTok for everyone to see and get mad at. Try better next time Adam.
congrats!
There’s a perfect spot in the gray paint above Jesse for and plaque! (To show it off on set) Congrats guys on the milestone… it’s been fun watching you guys get there and will be watching you reach the next one! Oh I almost forgot… 100,000 subscribers… THATS SO MANY SUBSCRIBERS! Cheers and Congrats!
Of course Adam would hate it
congratulations gentlemen
Tell me you’ve never seen a total eclipse without telling me you’ve never seen a total eclipse. What a bad take from Adam.
Adam laughs like the Costco guys dad
I think the single biggest reason anyone is curious or interested in seeing a total eclipse is because human nature's inherent fascination with the unknown. Now, yes, from what we have learned in school and online about eclipses, it's not really unknown. However, in some ways, it kind of is an unknown like space itself is unknown. It is a marvel of nature to get to experience the totality of a solar eclipse. IMO, while a regular partial solar eclipse is cool, this is, when you experience it in person, something special. In fact, I was watching CNN's coverage of it today as well as other local news coverage of it and I heard the word "spiritual" used more than once. And I'm not going to lie. I got emotional, probably from seeing the initial crowds cheering in Mexico when they got to see the eclipse first. But then upon seeing it on national TV myself, it really is a beautiful sight.
I get it, though. Not everyone will get super excited about it, and that's fine! But I think there's sort of a mysterious aura that doesn't just surround the total eclipse itself but also space. And that lends itself to humankind's centuries old fascination with space.
I live in a 7th floor apartment in NYC. I felt my building sway. I was afraid the whole place was collapsing. I have never understood ancient animal sacrifice so well 😭
Congratulations!!
I came from Florida to watch it in Niagara falls in Canada. It was super cloudy, but I was able to sneak some pictures of the partial eclipse. Seeing darkness descend on the Falls was surreal. Followed that up by going to the game and April 8th, 2024 will go down in my personal history.
I remember when Chara broke Mason Raymond's back in 2011 playoffs series with Vancouver.
Adam Wylde: why would I go see the Leafs in Game 7 of the Cup Final? I can just catch it on CZcams later.
Adam the reason they moved a PA day for the eclipse is because the eclipse was happening at the same time as school was being let out, and it’s hard for teachers to stop hundreds of kids from looking directly at it, especially when they are explicitly told not to
Steve... AMAZING T-Shirt
Thank you for the reminder to get my CLENCHED shirt, Corgis are the best!
Thanks
Adam hating on the the eclipse was so good! 😂
They cant even do the written rules correctly, what hope do the unwritten ones have 🤷♂️
Dude it fucks with your whole body. That moment from penumbra to umbra....bruh i was shaking
Subbed in 2018. Still watching nearly every episode. You guys are fantastic. Sometimes I don't agree with you but you're all great guys and the hot hot takes are some times totally whack. Hahaha. 🖖🤘👍 keep on rolling boys and company.
I'm so happy you guys started with the Sens empty net thing LOL As a Leafs fan it makes me so happy
Saw it in Montreal. It was amazing! Clear sky, hundreds of people on the boardwalk. It was a special day.
Adam being the history guy and botching Roman numerals was fantastic.
Forget the eclipse thats once in a lifetime, but Roman numerals are forever Adam.
50:31 bruins fan so I’m biased but the B’s are 100% going to have a franchise altering offseason. Roughly 25mil in free cap space if I’m not mistaken. Swayman needs a contract. Debrusk gryz forbort off the books. Crazy things could happen in Boston.
Speaking of the code creating must see hockey, Gallager still hasnt answered for his elbow on Pellec. Montreal plays NYI on April 11
The code is not to show up your opponent. Not improperly scoring an empty netter. So that’s why it’s a different situation but the same.
As someone who also didn't see the hype, it was a really interesting experience. It helped that I had a scientist friend explain a lot of phenomenon that happened during the event.
You see Adam, we actually see the sun year round in most of the states so when it disappears it's pretty cool. Hope this helps! 😉🎉
1:22:30 I love how the only other hot spots are Raleigh/Durham (Dreamville Festival was this weekend) and the Danville/Martinsville, VA area (NASCAR was there this past weekend). And of course NYC because that's like 365 heavy tourism.
for the ancient story on the battle of the eclipse, it was a battle between the Lydians and the Medes in modern turkey, but interesting point Greek historian Herodotus mentions a king Cyaxares, but Cyaxares was dead for 10 years when the eclipse occured on may 28th,585 BC, further more battles rarely took place at the time of day the eclipse occurred. so most likely Herodotus mistranslated the story, the eclipse mentioned in the story was most likely a lunar eclipse. Which means the battle would have either took place on September 3rd 609 BC or the 4th of July 587BC. so the famous story of the battle of the Eclipse was most likely a Lunar Eclipse and not a Solar Eclipse.
I watched the eclipse in Montreal and it was a pretty special moment. Adam hates fun
The eclipse was great, we had alot of cloud cover but the little bit I got to see was really cool, I don't know how anyone could be so negative about a beautiful phenomena we only get to see once in a lifetime, we were extremely lucky to get this chance here in Southern Ontario
I live in the path of totality and went to work with my husband for the day so we could view it together. While he was way more excited about it than I was, I have to say it was one of the coolest things I will probably ever see. Also it's been raining ever since so if I did live in the before times I absolutely would've thought the world was ending 😂
How dareeeeee people be excited about a once ina lifetime event. The heckin audacity! 😅
I took a pic of Jupiter in daylights
Adam "old man yells at eclipse" Wylde
“It’s just Kanata!” 🤣🤣🤣
When people are bahumbug about things like eclipses (Adam) it doesn't seem funny or cool, you just seem like an ignorant Scrooge. It reminded me of people being upset about the NHL doing the kids animated broadcasts.
I drove about 2 hours from Toronto and it was the most mind blowing thing I've ever seen with my own two eyes. It wasn't cloudy. Tornados are literally a dime a dozen. Nothing on a computer screen really comes close to what I saw and I spend way too much time on CZcams.
The best way to put it:
If this was a Star Wars universe, where you can travel to other stars, aliens would be traveling to Earth to witness this event. That's how rare it is for a sun-moon-planet system to have perfect total solar eclipses.
Instead of being bahumbug, maybe educate yourself. And if you still don't feel compelled to partake, let others enjoy it without putting people down.
CJ whenever Steve makes a tv reference 🤨
Adam needs to experience totality... I saw it yesterday and it was so freaking cool to see with the naked eye. And yeah it only lasted like 3 mins. I would probably agree that seeing a partial eclipse isn't that big a deal. But a total eclipse was absolutely worth it.
I'm with Steve, how does CJ not know Dragon Ball?
Ok ok so I get that not everyone has to be excited about space and stuff, but the eclipse is just SO COOL and there's so many cool things about the eclipse.
It's such a wild thing, the moon is almost exactly 400x smaller than the sun but happens to orbit us 400x closer to us than we orbit the sun. It's an insane cosmic coincidence that the moon can totally block the sun and isn't possible on any other known planet, in our solar system or otherwise!
You can see photos of it but that doesn't give the whole experience. It becomes nighttime dark around you for just a few minutes, animals like birds start acting weird, they think it's night and start singing their night time songs and going to roost, the temperature dropped where I was at in Niagara enough that you could see your breath from the ~8C it had been before the sun started being covered. Because the light isn't coming down as a circle and is instead coming through the atmosphere as an arc, light shining between leaves become little half moons during most of the eclipse. The atmosphere causes the shadows cast from this arc to wiggle in strange ways that are really hard to see on cameras, it's a 'have to be there' type thing. And it's not like the weather, it's two astronomical bodies that are insanely massive conjoining to give earth a really neat show for just a few seconds.
And just to answer Steve's question about looking at the eclipse, you're right. The sun is bright and on a normal day you don't think "hey I should stare at that bright orb that leaves little spots in my eye because it's so bright" but during an eclipse it appears dimmer and people want to see it, so they look directly at the sun for minutes without realizing the harm they're doing. The sun is super powerful, I think it's important to remember that every living creature gets its energy directly or indirectly from the sun (plants get energy from the sun and are eaten to provide animals food, etc) so even though like 99% of the sun might be covered when you look at the sun during an eclipse, you're still directly receiving a ton of UV (and other) radiation right into your eyes.
Anyway rant over. As a space lover the eclipse was a really great experience and I'll have to hunt one down in the future until I get to see one without too much cloud cover. Love the podcast, go Leafs go!
23:36 insert the Steve Carrell NOOOOOO meme
For Adam:
Seeing a partial eclipse is like watching hockey from home. It’s fine, nothing wrong with it
Seeing a total eclipse is like watching a game in the arena. The travel and the atmosphere is part of it, and there’s something about it that you really can’t describe
You can see stars and planets in the middle of the day. You can see the sun’s atmosphere with your naked eye (because you can take off your eclipse glasses during totality). The wildlife freaks out because they have no idea what’s going on. The temperature drops noticeably
It’s also special because the moon isn’t always the right distance from Earth to cause a total eclipse - that’s an annular eclipse (like “annulus” meaning “ring”, NOT like “annual”)
Earth used to have only total eclipses and no annular ones. Because the moon is drifting further away from Earth, some day we’ll never have another total eclipse again. We’re in a very special place in Earth’s history for this to be possibly
And also holy crap space stuff is awesome what is wrong with you?
VIP episode 100% just eclipse talk
Dragon ball reference and star craft, his just like me fr fr
Adam the historian says: an eclipse is only cool when it’s during a battle involving the Roman legion
I feel like the fact that the game was over makes it 100x more disrespectful lol
Makes it way funnier based on Brady's reaction.
Sad that Brady is wasted in Ottawa playing for such an irrelevant team.
@@wilseph1It really is. He is a prototypical playoff guy
@@wilseph1 Trust me, as a Sens fan we all agree.
Considering it's literally in the rule book as an unsportsmanlike penalty, which Nico was assessed, yes. And they are two completely distinct situations with two drastically different approaches each of the responses to the 'goal(s)'. Loafs fans are maximally delusional, as always.
Adam not liking the eclipse because “it’s just not interesting in modern times” is a WILD take considering how cool and informative eclipses are from a scientific perspective. It’s the only way we can observe the atmosphere of the sun
I had no idea Oshie's wife ruined our playoff run. I knew instagram was evil but this is insane.
Also, Lauren being "Head WAG" makes total sense when you know Oshie is arguably top Head Locker room guy.
That Air Bnb map looks exactly like the Google Trend map for the phrase "My eyes hurt". I'd love to say I'm kidding but...
Not sure how expensive, but I think you can order extra play buttons - in the event that any / each of you wanted to have one.
That was a confusing LFR at first. It's just the Habs why is he so.... ah, I hadn't seen the Ottawa game. Carry on, makes complete sense.
PBS NOVA "The Great American Eclipse" It actually made me care a lil more and has history for Adam
That was a Keefe line change if we ever saw 1 🤦♂️
Eclipses are worse for your eyes than just staring at the sun because your eyes begin adjusting to the darkness making them dilate. The issue is you're being exposed to just as much UV and infrared light as you normally would but your eye is taking in more causing it to be damaged even worse.
Tldr you can't look at an eclipse because it does double damage cus it's dark out
