  • We’ve brought together the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport and Rimac Nevera on the stunning sun-kissed roads of Croatia, two hypercars that represent the present and future of automotive engineering and design. Steve Sutcliffe is on hand to find out whether our new era of electric hypercars can really thrill like the best combustion engine-powered that came before, and whether it’s a case of pointless speed over substance…

      I'm not sure how i feel about this comment. Let's set the scene first: I'm a petrol head since I can think. I'm also an environmentalist driving a budget EV since when i could afford a used one - 2018. I love my EV and the subtle whirry noise it make when you hit the pedal. I love how with rolled down windows you can hear the tires gripping the road. That's a cheap, small, slow EV with slow charging and in my subjective impression it's been the better daily driver than the petrol car i owned before it. It's not as emotional as my rattly old porsche 944, but then again, what current car is?
      I believe that EVs can be the better cars but people tent to want to buy bad cars so manufacturers have to build bad cars and it's truly hindering EVs potential. All while consumers still want to believe, that EVs are a boring, bad thing.

      Automobile talks much better with sensations than with words.
      Sensations wise EV will put any ICE to shame because that's how superior in efficiency with their source of power EV are. Irony being it will probably be cheaper for us to have better performance(and sensations) vehicules for less money giving acess to supercar performance for lower price with EV than supercar performance with ICE.
      In the end we've got better cars and the bonus being it release less harmful chemicals in the air while using it. WIN WIN situation.

    I don't like the argument that the Chiron is a dinosaur. Does anyone really think that all of us who drive a combustion engine today are driving in outdated technology? There is modern technology in every modern combustion engine. The Chiron would never have been possible if the latest technical developments and thousands of hours of engineering work had not gone into the vehicle's development. This car is the expression of technical excellence, the cooling circuit alone is a marvel. It is disparaging to dismiss these achievements as dinosaurs simply because the vehicle runs on gasoline.
    Even though the Rimac costs only 1/4 to fill up and charges in 15 minutes with the Supercharger station, it begs the question of how often such a charger can be found. The Chiron doesn't care which gas station you drive to, it's full after 2 minutes.
    Electricity may be decisive in the future, but not today, not in this global political situation. Otherwise, the video is a pleasure

    The best review of the Nevera I've seen, the best flim Steve has done (when the information is this thorough and concise i can easily forgive those OTT emotional mass audience engaging moments) and just a great and very interesting film. What Rimac have achieved is incredible.
    When this level of EV quality starts trickling down down to 911 or even MX5 levels of cost and performance, 15mins for a recharge at a quarter of the price and fraction of the carbon footprint will be well worth the change from ICE, and the boomer head in the sand global heating deniers will just forget all the nonsense they've been babbling. Performance wise, instantaneous EV torque, delivered through state of the art four wheel torque vectoring will leave everything else completely redundant performance wise. Cars that seem fast today will look like quaint old MGB's in comparison.
    Looking forward to a comparison with a production Evija, because even though it should slightly outperform the Nevera, the abilities of these cars make that meaningless. But it should also be the better sports car driving experience, and on this evidence the Rimac will feel like the more polished, quality feeling super sports GT. That will be great if that's how it works out. Slightly different flavours of the ultimate automobile in the world.

Sure the apple watch might have more features but you only really need it to tell you the time.

      @ramblerandy2397 Před rokem +2

      @@linkiny Yep, I get visceral feeling towards ICE vehicles. Most of us are programmed from an early age to feel that way. However, I grew up in an engineering family. We all worked in engineering at some point. My eldest brother [now retired] was a motor engineer, able to diagnose and design. From my early teens in the 1970s he told me of the inefficiencies of the internal combustion engine, describing in detail where all the waste and wear occurred. And that's how I view the ICE era. Noise and waste, incredible inefficiency, accelerated wear, and significant exhaust pollution.
      Amongst other innovations, I've been waiting for real electric cars pretty much all my adult life. They go a huge way to solving the problem of personal transportation. Plus, in only a couple of decades of serious evolution they've already become superior to the ICE vehicle that went before it. By all means celebrate the past, but bring on the future.
