    Some industry trivia about Rimac and their credibility:
    - Rimac officially owns Bugatti, as through a deal with VW, they have gained a 55% majority hold in Bugatti shares, which has been renamed "Bugatti Rimac". The rest is owned by Porsche (under VW group).
    - Rimac has for a long time delivered EV-related services to many leading industry brands such as aforementioned Porsche and Bugatti, amongst many others.
    - Rimac has had a partnership with Koenigsegg for many years, supplying each other with specific expertise and manufacturing capabilities within various fields of production and research.
    Rimac might be considered a new player still in terms of own production, but they have been a major established player within the international electric/hybrid car industry for many years, and have helped a lot of the largest companies with their transition into the EV and Hybrid era of car engineering. If anything, it's the credibility of other companies' EV lineups that are thanks to Rimac.

    • @moogle68
      @moogle68 Před 2 lety +10

      There is "timeless" design, and then there is "simple/generic/restrained" design. It is understandable how an artist can easily end up creating something that is merely generic/uninspired when trying to create something "timeless" because timeless design is probably the most difficult and advanced forms of design that exists. To make something successfully timeless you not only need to thoroughly understand modern tastes and understand the tastes + styles from *many* different time periods, but also understand *why* and *how* those preferences morphed over time. All of that must be understood in order to be able to predict how your creation will be seen for decades to come. I think Rimac's designers believed that it couldn't have too unique of a design without dating it, but that's wrong. They've ironically made it look *completely* dated by making a design restrained to the norms of this time period. Every angle that I saw of this car had at least one aspect of it that was almost identical to another car currently in production. I know that they get a lot of hate for the fact that their badges are as much status symbols as anything else, but Bugatti and Rolls Royce are the two companies that come to my mind when I think of companies that have successfully pulled off timeless designs in the past and in the present. The standard Chiron is a *perfect* example of how you can still make something look daring, unique, and bold while also ensuring that it will look that way decades from now whenever people see one for the first time. I think they ended up creating something that looks good today, and will look good for a few years, but that won't stand out 50 years from now because it doesn't really stand out even now, whereas nothing about the Chiron looks like anything else to day, and likely won't look like anything 50 years from now either. Also, I'm not sure where screen technology will go next, but considering the fact that the entire car is controlled via screens, I don't see how this design will be "timeless" in a couple decades unless they plan on creating new screens with updated tech that fit into this car's current interior and "recalling" all of these cars periodically over the next few decades to replace the older screens with newly updated ones. I guess that could be done, but it would cost them an insane amount of effort, time, and money to actually carry out such an ambitious plan.
      Btw, it's good to know about the whole pronunciation thing, but the name is written in English letters, so I suspect they are fine with people just pronouncing the 'c' like a 'k', because otherwise they would've used your language's letters/symbols to make it clear if they'd wanted it to be pronounced the native way.

      @rars0n Před 2 lety +42

      @@peterkater4292 "all these people in admiration for something they'll never buy, but all in one voice praising the EVs as 'a whole'"
      What does liking THIS ONE car have to do with EVs as a whole? Who cares if I'll never buy it? One of my favorite cars ever is the 288 GTO. Am I not allowed to like that car because I don't have hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend on a car?
      I started drag racing my daily driver back in 2000. I love gasoline engines. The most you're going to do to an EV to make it faster at the track is to put in a better suspension and bigger motors. That's pretty boring to me. I don't even care if my car is slower, I did the wrenching, the tuning, and the driving. I made it drop 4 seconds in the quarter mile, trap 120 mph, and do 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. I made it fast, it didn't come that way.
      And yet sometimes it's a pain in the butt daily driving the car that you're constantly working on. Sometimes it's nice to just have cheap transportation from point A to B. I will always prefer having a clutch pedal and stick shift, even in stop-and-go traffic (automatics are far more annoying to me), but you're an idiot if you can't see any upsides to owning an EV.
      The fact of the matter is that the best cars of the past are exactly that now, in the past. We can still drive them and fix them and keep them nice and enjoy them, but automakers aren't making them anymore because it's just not what people are buying in large quantities. I don't even like the idea of owning a brand new car anymore because of all the nanny bullshit that now comes on every car. But the average driver is an idiot who doesn't care about anything but getting from point A to point B, so the specialty cars are going to continue to get rarer. Just because it has an EV powertrain doesn't mean it has no "soul." It's even more dumb to say that without ever having driven the car yourself.

    • @peterkater4292
      @peterkater4292 Před 2 lety +4

      @@rars0n Now we're communicating Adam, and I truly value your detailed answer!
      I totally reckon I might be halfway to an "idiot" (as you kindly put it) as the only advantage I'd assume EVs have over ICEs is the lower running cost.
      I'm glad you like the 288 GTO (one of the first true Supercars). My dream car would perhaps be a Carrera GT.
      You liking the 288 GTO and me the Carrera GT doesn't mean we'll see the world shifting over to super GTs or even Supercars, but people massively admiring a "Supercar EV" might actually help open the door to a global market presence for EVs.
      That's what I dislike.
      I kind of dread that the EVs will once replace cars as we know them today. Just because people do not want to drive anymore or do not enjoy driving anymore. OEMs encouraging them to be completely passive behind the wheel, with all sorts of electronic bullshit...
      I definitely am in favor of a cohabitation of ICE and EVs. But I don't really think it is really possible.
      On the other hand, EVs are maybe the less eco-friendly creatures I know of.
      Batteries made with cobalt, nickel, lithium... The main power sources for EVs being electrical energy produced by nuclear and coal plants...
      I guess any drag racing car is just 10 times more environmentally friendly.
      But as the logic has it, what matters is what comes out of the exhaust pipes, not the energy feeding process that comes beforehand.
      Anyways, I truly hope we'll enjoy our ICE cars as much as we can before the world tips over into full EV dictatorship.

      A bit hyperbolic but not far from true. Most cars in America do 60 under 8.5. 5-7 seconds is most cars. 8.5 to 60 would of been pretty standard around 2000 maybe.

      @@Sheridantank 5-7 is quick even by today’s standards. I think car enthusiasts like us can be pretty skewed by the sheer number of “quick” “everyday” vehicles that are available now, but realistically the majority of consumers are not buying them.
      Look at the most popular vehicles sold today. The majority of small crossovers do 0-60 in 8-9 seconds unless they have turbos. All popular midsize sedans are 7-8 seconds in base engine form. And all 3 row v6 crossovers are also around 7.5-8.5 seconds.
      There are of course exceptions to each of these, for instance luxury vehicles of every category all typically come standard with pretty powerful engines in base form, but most people do not buy luxury vehicles.
      Very few non-luxury vehicles with the “base” engine do 0-60 under 7 seconds. So 8.5 seconds is really not an exaggeration.

    No disrespect, but there is a lot more to be said about this car and the story of the company behind it, which is very interesting.
    Mate Rimac designed the Concept One at 23 years of age as far as I know, the guy is a genius on many levels.
    It is all a special phenomenon.
    When Rimac was 18, he bought a 1984 BMW E30 323i, and the engine exploded on the race track.
    He then changed it to an electric car when he was 19.
    Subsequently, he broke many records with his now famous old green E30 323i after being laughed at first.
    They challenged him to bring his "washing machine" to the tracks etc.
    He also founded Greyp, a company that makes about the best electric bikes you can get.
    But I'm really happy Demuro finally got the chance to have a take on Rimac.
