After watching this, seems like everyone should just be buying one of each haha
We think alike. 🤘🏼😎
Ditto
I had this issue a few years ago and ended up buying them both 😂
I used to wreck 2 - 3 watches each year working with steel gas cylinders until I bought a Seamaster, the bracelet does not break, the glass does not have a scratch and I have been wearing it for over 20 years.
I have is serviced now and then and I am still in love with it. Its like a Mack truck, simple and strong.
I held both in my hands and chose the Seamaster. The auto movement, date and sapphire crystal was what did it for me
I have the 2012 model SMP 300 and most recently an Speedy Sapphire Sandwich with 1863 movement. Love them both. Wore the speedy for nearly 10 years daily before sending it in for service, and it was still keeping nearly within COSC specs.
I bought 1861 Speedmaster in 2019. When I went to buy it, I saw blue Seamaster in the shelf and I loved it. So, slowly started saving for it and 2021 when I went to AD to buy Blue Seamaster, I saw White dial Seamaster in shelf and it was love at first sight. Came back with White dial and its really a fun watch.
However, Speedy with hesalite is still and always will be my first love ❤️. Its one watch which has everything - heritage, history, looks and versatility. ❤️
Nice, thorough analysis. I have them both, and luckily didn’t have to choose between them. They suit differ moods and, naturally, purposes.
Thank you for watching and commenting. ✌🏽😎⌚️
Thank you for syncing both watches to the second prior to the review!
No problem. 😎👍🏼
I have one of both. Both are great in their own right. New bracelet on the 3861 speedy makes it the winner. Seamaster is in great need of an updated bracelet.
That's precisely my dilemma !😁 The Speedy is iconic but the Seamaster seems better suited to handle "every day life"...
This is why i understand people who absolutely want both ! 😂
Exact reason why I initially bought the Speedy, then traded/sold it for the Seamaster. I wanted an every day watch and although the Speedy is amazing, the Seamaster is the clear choice if you’re looking for an everyday watch. He even said in the video “although I wear the Seamaster more, the Speedy is etc, etc”. Seamaster just works for anything and everything
I would totally get a seamaster if my wrists weren’t so darn dainty!
@@pgaray20 In what way the seamaster is better for daily life?
Thanks for your video! And you are right. I purchased last year the speedy first. It's just more versatile, it can be casual and also more dressy. Until I recently bought the seamaster 300 in white dial. I highly recommend the rubber strap if you have small wrist. Definitely look more casual but that was my intention!
Great video! I have both of them as well. Love them both!
These are two very different watches. I would say the Speedy is the more versatile choice in terms of fitting smaller wrist sizes. The lug-to-lug difference does matter, more so than case size. That being said, I have an average wrist size so either watch works fine for me. To me, the Speedy is a more understated watch, particularly if we are talking about the Hesalite crystal version. It's also important to note the Seamaster 300m is an automatic wind versus the Speedy being a manual wind. That matters to some people. I like both for different reasons.
Bought my first Omega in early 2000's, Speedy w/ hesalite crystal and sapphire display back, then in 2020 bought Seamaster Planet Ocean. Love them both but the Speedy has more of a
nostalgic feel to it.
Have Seamaster in black, along with few other Planet Ocean 8500 and Speedmaster Triple Date revised, and like it a lot as a daily user, switching between bracelet and leather strap. Bought it in 2018 for less than $4K
My first choice was the Speedster (sapphire) however soon after I began to love the white dial Seamaster so I got that too. Now I am done, I love them both and love the fact that they are very different.
That white dial Seamaster is really stunning.
Exactly. I have Speedy on hesalite and White Seamaster. Love them both but Speedy a little more. It has a different charm to it, which I dont find in Seamaster.
Done? Never say never.
Speedster??
Great job!
Thank you Fran
Just bought the sea master, love it!
I just got the 3861 Speedmaster couple weeks ago in Munich. I have to say (coming from a Tissot) that this watch is "the one and only" for life.
So be careful if you want to start a watch collection, because this one has all: finesse, heritage, METAS-certified movement and a timeless design.
My wife bought me a Seamaster 300 in blue, for our anniversary. Love the watch. It became my everyday wear. But both are great watches though.
Another note to mention would be that the Speedy is going to be more expensive to service than the SMP 300 and a little less rugged without the extra water resistance. Great comparison
Less rugged? Not according to NASA LOL
I have both (hesalite Speedy and blue Seamaster 300M). Both are fantastic even though very different. Telling which one is my favorite is like asking me which of my children is my favorite. I love both of them equally even though they are very different.
From your video, I would say you feel the same way. Cheers!
I have both as well, as I look down at the Speedy on my wrist.
Snap! My speedy (hesalite) is on the 50th anniversary flatlink bracelet with retro logo and my blue seamaster on rubber with deployment clasp. Speedy for weekend and seamaster during the week. Also, have the sapphire sandwich but don't wear it!
Got em and love em both. ❤️
I went with the Speedy sapphire sandwich for a do everything/dressier option (the sapphire helps with that). I have a 62 MAS Seiko for my diver which I prefer because of the size compared to the SMP 300 and of course a Casioak for gym/beater duties.
epic choices 🙌🏻
I have both of these, I tend to wear the Speedmaster for more formal occasions and Seamaster for casual. My Seamaster 300 has the grey dial and still works well with my dark blue suits but find the Speedmaster just looks more formal in my opinion.
Craig: Your story resonates with me. I'd love to own both watches as well. Two all-time classics.
I just bought my speedmaster professional hesalite glass and i absolutely love it.
Contratz on the Speedy. 😁👍🏼
I have both.
Both are Awesome pieces.
I’ve got the black seamaster love it 🙂
Funny I started with a blue bezel Grey dial seamaster. A year later (this year) I purchased a speedmaster sapphire sandwich. My seamaster has ben pretty much inside my watch winder haha
Hi, same indecision… they are spectacular both . but in the end i ‘ve choose the speedy Cheers 🥂
I have both bought speedy first both are great!!
The only reason for me to get the speedmaster is because of its history. In terms of aesthetics, i like the seamaster diver much much more. Thank you for doing a side by side comparison. 😊
You're very welcome.
I think they should redesign the speedy racing, because that’s what the watch is meant for
@@hathaway.1166 as long as they continue to make money and maintain popularity off the "first watch on the moon" hype, they probably won't redesign it. They surely should add a more racing themed version though. (I dont know enough about omega models to know if they already have)
@@ryangochuico you sound clueless
@@hathaway.1166 they have multiple racing themed Speedmasters already
I already owned both Omega watches.😊
Great comparison! Do you wear the SMP 300M more because it is more durable? I am wearing the exact same one now :)
Thank you very much. You are 100% correct. It's the durability.
The Seamaster is not more “durable” than the speedmaster. I’m not sure what makes you think that it is. It has more water resistance, which really only matters if you are going to go diving in the water. Otherwise, the speedmaster is every bit as durable.
Both look great. Can't decide. Seamaster, people say the antireflective coating makes it look like the sapphire gets scratches, I am on and off when it comes to the look of the bracelet. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't, but when people put it on their wrist it does look good. And the helium escape valve, sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't.
Speedmaster, looks amazing, but very expensive, and no glide lock on the clasp. It is possible to buy a clasp from a different omega watch (can't remember which one) that fits well and has glide lock, but it costs over 200 USD. I've also heard that the bracelet pulls on arm hair when moving the arm and the watch moves slightly from side to side. I don't know if you have noticed it, but it seems like it is different from person to person.
It is a hard decision because both are great in different ways. Putting on the Speedy definitely pulls my arm hair. However, once it's on, I no longer have an issue.
@@thegreatgambinowatchreviews I see, then it fits the description of other people. They usually say it only pulls on the arm hair when you take it on or off, but not while it is on even though you move your hand around and the watch also moves a bit.
So this is true in your case as well? The most important thing is not pulling hairs while using it :)
@@SLO7HProductions Definitely true in my experience. It can pull hairs putting the piece on, but usually never throughout the day. I should add that I wear my watches rather snug on the wrist. I'm not sure if the issue would be worse for those that leave the watch loose.
Seems like a lot of people have both. I use my Speedmaster mostly but wear my Seamaster for boat and beach.
I own both a sapphire 3861 Speedmaster and a white dial 300M. Bpth are different but both good to wear
I've recently become obsessed with mechanical watches and am on number 7. It's a disease. My wife may leave me. The first two I purchased were the sapphire sandwich Speedy and the blue Seamaster on an Omega NATO strap (the bracelet is ugly). Both amazing watches.
We are all definitely hooked on watches lol. 😎👍🏼⌚️
Make the number 8 hers! Buy it for her. She wouldn't leave you. Then you can carry on to buy watch number 9.
I also debate between the two. The 2012 36.25mm seamster and the latest 38mm Speedmaster. I have a 6.5in wrist.
I like that they are timed to the same second in the side by sides. I managed to snag a new green Seamaster and have an older three dial Speedmaster. Speedy is better suited to dressier attire. Seamaster, for me, is a daily driver.
Can’t go wrong with having both!
Definitely need one for each wrist. 👍🏼
Because the Speedy is so iconic and it most likely going to be for a long time. I think one should get the Seamaster first.
I couldn’t decide so I just got both the SM PO and speedy w/ sapphire dome 😂
The Seamaster is a true 42mm. The speedmaster professional is 40mm. Omega counts the pusher protectors in the case measurement causing it to measure 42mm. It’s clearly visible how much smaller the speedmaster is in your video. The speedmaster doesn’t “appear” smaller it is smaller.
I got the speedmaster and throughly enjoy it. Now I want to get a seamaster :)))
The Seamaster is my everyday watch because it’s waterproof and automatic. The Speedmaster is my special occasion or going out watch. I love them both!
I couldn’t decide, so I bought both of these exactly. 😂
I own both of those exact watches the only difference is my speedy is the sapphire sandwich. I love them both for different reasons. I purchased the speedy because of the history. I purchased the seamaster as an F U to Rolex since you can’t buy one retail. If I had a preference it’s the Seamaster.
Can you put the speedmaster band on the seamaster? I’m too broke to know if it’s frowned upon or not
I have both but nothing compares to the hesalite speedmaster with that new bracelet. I wear my Seamaster when i have to go to Asia during typhoon/monsoon season.
Can the bracelets fit on each other? Great video.
I do not believe they are interchangeable but I'm not 100 percent sure.
I had the same issue but once I had a speedmaster in my hand it was over. Cant beat a hesalite speedmaster along with the history.
Nice video. People keep commenting that the Speedy only has 50 meters of water res. Dudes, that's 164 feet deep! C'mon! What more do you need?
Seamaster line is the one who feeds OMEGA and whole Swatch group. I own 3 Seamaster but no speedmaster, because I don't like Chronograph and I love simple dial watch.
Perfect 2watch collection
Couldnt decide...got both 😅
I've had the old speedmaster sapphire sandwich and just bought a new Seamaster Seaweed over the new Speedmaster. It feels more bulletproof and a better choice for a daily wearer. I will say that I much prefer the bracelet on the new Speedmaster.
Seamaster with white Dial 😍😍😍
Prefer the speedy its low key and great history. I actually prefer the older SMP from the first one with the coaxial movement 2500cal I actually owned this watch but sold it and regretted it. I was just in the market to buy another piece and looked at the SMP but found it too blingy and then looked at what I owned before but the second market seems steep for an old model so actually ended up with a Tudor BB 41mm case with in house and its a beast for time keeping
I have the sapphire sandwich speedmaster and WANT the seamaster !!
Yep went with seamaster,😊
I like the design of the speedmaster more but I just can’t wrap my head around the 5bar/50 meter water resistance. If it was 100 I would have bought it years ago.
Are you diving beyond 165 feet in your Speedmaster? If not, I don't see much of an issue. The Speedy was mainly designed to go in the opposite direction- the moon.
Most of these comparison is just to “tell” you they are different and what are the differences. They are both or all good. 👍
I have 2 speedmasters (One Gemini 4 model and one double shaphire) and 2 Sea masters, one planet ocean and one titanium and rose gold. Each is awesome but if I had to get one I would go with the Seamaster for the ability to get wet.
That's an amazing collection.
I have both…no headache
I have the Seamaster 👌 best watch for me. Just one of the best looking watches in the world and you can't beat a tough dive watch
Can we install bracelet of speedmaster on seamaster ?
If yes then can you show us how it looks like ?
I am a big fan of Omega seamaster but I don't like it's straight bracelet. It's bracelet should tapered down just like Rolex submariner
💯 agree! Это был бы отличный эксперимент.
I'm fortunate to own both
This combo makes the perfect 1 - 2 punch. 😎👍🏼⌚️⌚️
I plan on buying both and this video didn’t help make my decision any easier on which one to buy first because your sales pitch was phenomenal. Lol
I had the Speedy and sold it. Sea Master all day every day.
Both
Personally I would go for the Seamaster. The speed master has some issues that I just can’t get past. Mainly the water resistance. I’m sorry but if I’m paying more then $2,000 for a watch, I expect more then 3 Bar water resistance
The logo on the back of the speedy is a kelpie not a seahorse
When you showed the watches side by side, the seamaster looked really chunky. I think I will go with speedmaster
Both watches are very different and are used for different types of application. One is a dive watch, and the other was designed for precise timing and navigation. You cannot go diving with a Speedmaster. It is not designed for going under water! The dive watch is designed to have easy visibility under water, and has a rotating bezel for timing of the air tanks.
I have both watches. I have the Speedmaster Mark II (861a) that I bought in 1974. I was using it as a timer when navigating aircraft. I bought during 2016 the Omega 300M with the blue face. I like the 300M as a regular type of watch. The coaxial movement is a bit more accurate than the older type of classic movement. I get these watches maintained about every 5 years at an Omega service rep.
When I wear the Speedmaster it keeps to about +2 seconds per day. If I remove it and let it sit it runs maybe about +6 per day. This is normal for this era of Speedmaster that I have. The 300M is a bit more accurate over the long term when I wear it.
I have both although I have the sapphire sandwich Speedmaster. They are both great but the Speedmaster is timeless perfection and it’s the perfect size and fit since the rework. The Seamaster need’s another tweak like the Speedmaster has just had. A bit thinner a bracelet rework and maybe back to a 41mm case. It could do with the hands changing too. The lume is too thin and the hands are not that visible at night. The Seamaster is quite a lump too where the Speedmaster feels like vintage perfection. The new Seamaster 300 is more my style than the professional although I think Omega will fix it in a few year’s time.
In really life the Speedy where's more like a dress watch.
My Speedy has never seen the park, the gym, the pool, or the great outdoors because it where's like a dress watch in real life use.
I bought both...
Considering it. Have the 007 seamaster
Speedmaster for me. The best Omega imho & the iconic chronograph. As for a diver I’d go Tudor and/or Rolex submariner over a Seamaster.
Love Tudor and Rolex. I'll be reviewing the new Gmt Pro and Rootbeer in the coming weeks. 😎👍🏼
Speedmaster really is the only Omega to own.
@KeepingWatchUK Sorry my friend but the Seamaster is at least equivalent if not better than the Submariner for these reasons :
1/ double certification COSC + METAS for the Omega + superior movement (0/+5 doesn't lose time, which is the main issue, compared to Rolex -2/+2)
2/ better reliability and longer time between services needed due to the awesome watch maker George Daniel's genius Co-axial movement !
3/ The Seamaster is available at any Omega AD for less than 6k$ (while you will never ever find the Submariner at an AD and even if you do and beat everyone else to it you'll pay around 10K for it, otherwise it's gonna be 3 times the price of the Seamaster on the grey market : around 18K$ for a sub ! And we all know the Sub is not 3 times better ! 🤣)
4/ The Omega is magnetic proof up to 15 000 gauss ! Not even the Rolex Milgauss supposedly designed especially for it can match it !
5/ Transparent beaufitul case back on the omega ! Not on the Rolex, why ? are they ashamed of their movement's finish ? 🤣
6/Omega is a classier brand, more discreet, unlike Rolex whose clients are more in need of buying themselves a social status than a watch... 🤣🤣
@@escanor9920 Fair play, a very well considered & thorough response :-) Enjoy your Omega dive watches my friend! Ps. Point 3 does not make the Sub a worse watch! ;-) Pps. Point 6. Not necessarily. I love my Rolex for me and no-one else! But I take your point generally. Have a good day mate.
@@KeepingWatchUK hello my friend 😁!
Always a pleasure to debate with an intelligent fellow watch lover ! I appreciate the fact that we don’t need to be mean to each other to « agree to disagree » 😁.
Nevertheless My point 3 is more valid than ever because cost to quality ratio is very important (unless you’re a billionaire 😂) and overpaying a Sub 18 k$ compared to the 6k$ seamaster is still an important matter…
But I totally agree with you that my point 6 is debatable 😁 : a uniform watch world would be sad !
Cheers from France 🇫🇷 buddy 😉
He says you should buy the speedy first but then goes on to say that the seamaster is more durable and modern looking and he wears it more often… seems like if you to choose only one it’d be the seamaster.
I bought a seamaster. Seamaster is more blingy delish than speedmaster
Can the bracelet of the Speedy fix on the seamaster?
No
@@thegreatgambinowatchreviews
Have you actually tried this experiment?
@@Maximus-27 I have not tried, but unless the lug shape and springbar holes are the same, it's highly unlikely that it would fit. If anyone has actual experience testing this, please chime in.
@@thegreatgambinowatchreviews I would definitely try to do this, but I only have SMP300 so far.
The only downfall of the SM300 is the bracelet.
Anyone who watch this get them both
Seamaster if it had a tappered bracelet.
Hopefully they will make an updated bracelet that fits previous models. 🤞🏼
Both really
Can't chose , i got the two Watches
SEAMASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the crystal never popped off and you can take it anywhere. oh yeah and that thing called a automatic self winding rotor, i guess its suppose to be some kind of benefit.
The answer is : Yes.
Smp 300 white❤
Speedy is a proper man’s watch
What stopped me going for the Speedmaster is having to hand wind it.
It’s actually the fun part :)
The correct answer is to get both
Perfect. 😁⌚️⌚️
Why choose? Get both !
seamaster is a bit gaudy for my taste, and I like flashy things.
I agree, the design is WAY overdone.
@@whereRbearsTeeth Have you seen one in person? I seriously doubt it. Unless they give you day release from your mental institution,
I didn't know the lockpicking lawyer did watch reviews
Lol I get that a lot. 🔐 ⌚️ ✌🏽
@@thegreatgambinowatchreviews your reviews are great! Keep it up!
@@msfasa Thank you so much. 😊
Omega Speedmaster
Choose the one you like the most. Ones a diver, the other is a three prong chronograph timing watch.
Three prong???
The answer is;
The Planet Ocean.
why I feel like the seamaster is bigger? 😅
It is.
Speedmaster. The Seamaster is too large, the clasp is too long and bulky, the bracelet doesn’t taper, the AR coating scuffs on the crystal (unforgivable at this price) and for some reason they chose to make the helium escape valve EVEN larger. But then again…what do I know?
I agree. Omega really screwed up the latest Seamaster design. I had the previous 41mm version and it was a way better design in my opinion. Unfortunately, I sold it when I bought my Rolex Explorer. I kinda miss it
@@whereRbearsTeeth Hey guys don't be selfish 😁 ! Not every men are dwarfs of shaped like hobbits ! the 42mm of the regular new Seamaster are not even enough for me and I'll probably go for the 44mm of the Chrono version ! If you guys are looking for baby watches I suggest you go for Rolex ( a brand designed for midgets mostly) as the entire collection is around 40 / 41 mm max (except for the sea dweller and the deep sea) 🤣!
