  • Asha from SKatefresh Virtual Skate School shows you 2 skills in one video. The very cool backwards spiral stop is an intermediate level stop needing at least some backwards skating experience as a pre-requisite.
    Keep watching for an appearance of Skatefresh's videographer @Skaterstu_Brightonskate who uses the backwards spiral stop most of the time to stop!
    Also in this video you'll find the same backwards spiral being linked on alternate sides to create the very smooth dance move known as the Half Moon. So learn the back spiral and you'll get 2 moves out of it at least.

    I love this move, it helps me get momentum for when I’m about to push into toe spins!!

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  Před 2 lety +3

      Yes I('ve seen many toe spinners go into the spin from this kind of spiral which allows your velocity to be transferred into the spinning energy. I'm not good at toe spins so thanks for reminding me that I should practice them more!

      Glad you like them! Although I have one playlist just of quads videos, you can learn a lot that's completely relevant by watching the inline tutorials. I teach quads and inlines in exactly the same way (wheels are wheels). The only differences are when it comes to edges (which inlines have to control) and stopping using heel brakes or toe stoppers. But EVERYTHING else is transferable. SO don't limit yourself to just the Quads Playlist content.
      Enjoy.

      @SkatefreshVideos  Před 2 lety +1

      @@skatingsabine I can't wait to see it and give it a tweak. Imagine you are really doing a curtsey and bend both knees as you do this, that's the secret to tightening up the spiral.

      @@SkatefreshVideos OK thanks! Had seen some videos with Stuart Thomas on CZcams some years ago. He looked like a good skater and think he was down Brighton way so wondered if it was him. People who film skaters well are impressive. They have to be able to accelerate, manoeuvre and stop as well as the person they're filming while looking at the camera screen, framing the shot and keeping it steady all at the same time!

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. It's a little harder on inlines because you don't have the stopper but yeah, it can be done. Pivots are very useful in slalom tricks.

      @SkatefreshVideos  Před 2 lety

      Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. It's not London, this video was filmed in Portsmouth, in the south-east of Southampton. I guess you can skate down the promenade by the River Thames. Right?

  • @fisherchi
    @fisherchi Před 2 lety

    Can this move be done in inline skates even though inlines do not have front stoppers?

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  Před 2 lety

      Yes this backward spiral also works on inline skates without a stopper. The technique is identical and the only difference is that the front wheel being used instead of the stopper might still roll if the spin movement isn't initiated tightly enough. I could do a short video tutorial on that move for inlines. I'll add it to the list.

    • @fisherchi

      @@SkatefreshVideos That would be great. Thank you. In the meantime, I will give this a try.

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  Před 2 lety +1

      I have my wrist guards on but I tend not to teach wearing knee pads as I so frequently want my students to notice the amount of knee bend I have (front of knee cap should be covering the toes from the side). This gets very obscured by chunks knee pads on the top. But I do highly recommend their use. Well noticed!

  • @julskechap
    @julskechap Před 2 lety +1

    That moment of beauty with the swan 🦢 is so sweet.
    This is helpful to me because i can see how the knee bend is done by showing how its supposed to cover the toes

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  Před 2 lety +1

      Good and that knee bend amount is THE secret to good skating and the reason most people don’t skate well is that they don’t bend their knees that much. If you film yourself from the side you’ll be able to tell if you’re bending enough.
