Tutorial: How to do transitions on quads and roller-skates from forwards to backwards and vice versa

  • Asha from Skatefresh Virtual Skate School shows you how to transition from forwards to backwards and backwards to forwards on quads or roller-skates using the toe or heel flip method.
    She explains how to ensure you are practicing both sides (for eventual fluency) and how not to make the common mistake of swapping the leading leg during the transition). If you are doing this it's because you do not yet have the fluency of the correct backward scissor position. To fix this common error, focus first on practicing that end scissor position gliding so that you are comfortable ending the transition there.
    Notice the clear Down Up Down movement of the knees which will help you release pressure on the heel or toe wheels to enable the flip to be quick and safe. Beware of coming up and staying up!
    For additional value, she's given you a quick dance move that will help you drill the more difficult backwards to forwards transition in a safe way that then gives you a new move. Looks cool when you do it with 2 or more people in synch.
    Let us know in the comments below how you find these transitions and any problems you're having.

      Thanks. I've been coaching for 22 years so I've figured out some things about technique and how best for new skaters to learn things. In the roller skate world there is a lot of describing going on instead of teaching..... Although I have fewer quads tutorials on my channel you can watch any of the inline tutorials and it'll apply to quads. I teach both skates in the same classes and all the progression exercises are the same with some small adjustments. But knee bend, weight distribution, body position etc are all identical. SO no need to stay just on the quads playlist....

    The bounce flip seems so much easier I will try it!!!

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  Před 24 dny

      For many people it is because the bounce stops you from hesitating or going in slow-motion which doesn't work. However, it is not the best option when going much faster, xo later on you may need to develop one of the other methods when you have much higher speeds.

    Love it. I'm going to start that zigzag drill because lifting trucks on both skates is always scary to me!

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  Před 2 lety

      This is a really good drill to get you into the harder 'manuals' of rolling on just toe or heel wheels. You can also start on carpet to make it even safer as you begin (pick a rainy day).

      Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. It does work at high speed, however it's much better to do it with a hop.

    Is this pretty much the same way of how to do it on inlines?

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  Před 2 lety +3

      Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Yes, it's the same technique. Since people always asks "Is it the same in...?" she did it in both types of skates. Haha. For inlines it's here czcams.com/video/3xuHPT4qbQE/video.html
