As a Dad of a daughter with what we strongly suspect is autism bravo to Greg Halford. People aren't the same. We're each different.
In fairness, I can imagine that if he was good enough to get England u21 caps whilst at Colchester (who wouldn't have been able to hold out for mega money) most of the Premier league probably would have wanted to sign him at some stage. Young, English, highly promising, not too expensive. He's not saying they all wanted him as a star signing.
Well done Greg for talking about autism. Some parts of daily life can be very challenging for people who have it.
Have to agree, football through the decades definitely an environment where if you don't join in on nights out your labelled, when in truth it's the Neuro Diversity that prevents social acceptance.

Big clubs sign young prospects all the time from the lower leagues. They’re cheap players with massive upside that can be sold on at a profit if they don’t make it at the big club that signed them. Do you know how football works or do you just think every transfer a club makes is a superstar to improve the first team immediately?

He seems like a good lad to me, enjoyed that, his clobber looked decent as well.
Something just does not sit right, comes across really insincere, nothing was ever his fault always seems to fall on hard luck. No smoke without fire not every club has fired him off for nothing
Was looking forward to hearing his side of the story as he was awful at Sunderland. Unfortunately there were that many contradictions in his excuses that he did nothing to dispell my feelings at the time that he simply wasn't trying. A bang average player with an overinflated ego of himself that didn't want to be at Sunderland made for some of the worst performances I've ever seen from one of our players. I've seen some shite at my club but my God he's up there with the worst, rather have Gareth Hall at right back.

He seemed like a nice humble lad at Colchester, so versatile. Thought he would have had a better career than he did when he left the U’s.

Pretty honest. Imagine many footballers have dropped out of football due to autism and must have made things very difficult. Easy to see by some of derogatory comments why you’d want to keep it quiet - some proper filth about and expect dressing rooms are full of them.

Halford had good potential but never really quite delivered regularly. I’m a Charlton fan and he was only there 6 months but he seemed a decent player, but note how all the clubs went on a decline or were on the decline when he joined and left. Colchester, Sunderland, Charlton, Wolves, Portsmouth etc.
Total opposite. When he joined Wolves for 2009/10 we had momentum and a feel-good factor from winning the Championship about 2 months before, but his attitude in games was just so poor. Then at the start of 2010/11 we played against Notts County in the league cup and he was poor again, no shock that Mick McCarthy lost his rag.
Complete waste of a shirt at Sunderland. Listening to this, he comes across as someone who will blame everyone else but himself. I'm not suprised his career didn't hit the heights
