I been to MEPS 3 times mainly because I had to get a Med Waiver. My 3rd time going (12/16/20), I finally got to swear in. I ship out March 25th, 2021. I initially tried to go the OCS route, but ran into issues because I’m only doing Navy Reserves (slim pickings already for Reservist) & I’m a little older than most (34). I decided to just go the enlisted route and try OCS later on. I didn’t want to “age out” while waiting for an OCS Reserves spot to open up. I was able to get the # 1 rate on my list of my top 20 preferred rates (based off of my research). I’m going in as a RP. I’m very excited!

I went to MEPS about 3 months ago and I was STUPID NERVOUS. So as they took my blood pressure it was slighty higher than standard. So my advice is to stay calm. Take really deep and long breaths. I had to get a BPS just to continue the enlistment process, took an extra week or so to come back to meps. Leaving for Basic on in Aug now but they'll try and get ya for everything and anything they can so just stay calm. Much luck to ones going to MEPS!!!

They stuck me in a nice hotel with another marine buddy of mine and we had to be downstairs to board the bus at 3:45. It was overall a weird experience. But the biggest part, is deny, deny, deny. dont give them any useless information. Dead serious, a conversation i had with one of the ladies there, went like this : "have you ever smoked weed?" Just went to MEPS a few days ago! It was so tiring. Just follow directions and come prepared to sit and wait. And if you’re someone who doesn’t care for bagged lunches bring your own lunch (there are no microwaves) - this stressed me out the most because I eat moderately healthy and the whole turkey sandwich and Cheetos combo wasn’t doing it for me. Just an extra tip make sure your ears are clean, I had to get my ear irrigated which made me dizzy and through off my balance.

  • @rofowleo

I already went to meps but didn’t swear in because the school I went to the Marine Corps has this new tier system where if you go to a tier 2 (charter or private school ) you have to have your HS Diploma in hand, well my recruiters had no idea about this. So I was sent home after I was asvab and med qualified. Now I have my HS Diploma and I am going back to MEPS. But between the time I went before and now had an ATV accident and had a concussion, skull fracture, and a nice scar my forehead. My recruiters told me there is no way to hide that scar. So I have to go down the med packet route. Luckily I have no permanent trauma or condition from this, and also my skull fracture healed naturally meaning no surgery required. I submitted my hospital records day of the accident and a follow up from my primary care doctor who said I am fit for everyday activity and there is nothing wrong with me. Waiting for MEPS to comeback with their verdict. Recruiter told me it will either be he's good " or "need more paperwork” I don't see why they would need more. The hospital never asked for follow up care because it would heal on it's own. I have no light ty, no headaches. Nothing, just a slight crack of my head and my first concussion in the 19 years I have lived here. I am very confident because my only dream since I was 6 years old was to become a United States Marine. I’ll keep you updated. Semper Fi

Just be respectful and listen to instructions and directions and you'll be fine. The MEPS personal at first might be rude but if you show them respect they'll loosen up a bit and won't be so rude. You know how Nancy Reagan was know for the slogan “Just say no.” Yea live by that when you are at meps if you want to be sworn in that day. The people there are mean, but there will be a few that are cool. There was only three females that day at meps taking the medical exam so I was lucky and didn’t have to wait a long time doing the actual medical exam. If you want to know what meps is like, just imagine you are in a hospital waiting room waiting for someone to call your name but actually never checked in.
