Can Barcelona's youngsters save the club?

  • Barcelona made it through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in four years, beating Napoli over two legs.
    There was a time when that would have been very much routine. After all the off-pitch issues, manager Xavi is trusting in young players from La Masia on the big stage, and they’re delivering. Could this actually be a turning point or is it just a false dawn for a club gripped by crippling financial losses?
    The Athletic’s Adam Leventhal is joined by Spanish football editor Tomas Hill Lopez-Menchero and Barcelona writer Pol Ballus to discuss.

    Cubarsi's passing is insane like am not even tryin to hype him up but he passes like Rodri and he ain't even 18.
    Pablo Torre, Gavi, Pedri, Yamal, Balde, Faye, Araujo, Cubarsi are not even in their Prime if you remember Xavi, Busquets and Iniesta, they didn't really hit there Prime till their late 20s like 26-28..
    Plus Barca Athletic have signed some exceptional Talent's like Faye and Davich and the right Winger from Argentina, La Masia can't stop producing the Future looks bright they just need their new version of Pep am thinking Arteta.

      Indeed. Cabarsi long passe to Fermin was amasing. Such a pitty that Fermin did not score having in front of him only the goalkeeper. I see Cabarsi and Faye the future 1st choice as central back defenders with Araujo as the 3rd option when the future coach may choose to play with 5 at the back. The lack of money have made a lot of people wise up. Why would they look for jam on dry bread outside when they have tiramisu un their own home court yard?

    biggest issue is lack of money making in laliga as a whole , 50 m euros to win laliga as prize money , relegated from the premier league is worth 100m pounds, they will push for a super league , and unfortunatley , there is already one , and thats the premier league

    • @Kriscur20
      @Kriscur20 Před 2 měsíci +2

      Its not lack of money. Barça generate almost a billion euros every year. Uts the FFP of LaLiga thta restric Barça and other LaLiga clubs to spend but for some reason doesn't restric Madrid🤔. Barça has lower their wages by almost 300m and restructured thier debt long ago and still Tebas(tge LaLiga president) restric us of spending. I think the new stadium will help but if Tebas does not change this BS FFP LaLiga teams(apart from Madrid)won't have the financial power to compete in Europe.

    • @Kriscur20
      @Kriscur20 Před 2 měsíci +1

      And the Prem is not only the prize money that gives them the financial power. The owner can still pump money in the clubs and call it loans. They are leveraging the club against their wealth. City, Chelsea eben Arsenal are doing this. Nothing to do with TV money. Look at what Everton and Forrest are being hit by right now. They were not spending only tge TV money

    In the financial crevass Barca is now its only chance to climb out of if is to grow its own players in such a big numbers that many of them would become 1 st team players like Fermin, Cubarsi and others like Fatty, Fernan Torres, Xavi Simons could be sold for very good money.
    Yes. La Massia could pool up the club financially and soccerly as an elite team.

    Spending this much money, and staking so much of the clubs futures, on transfers are absurd. Id imagine Barcelona fans could have withstood a few years of subpar performances and youth development if it meant a successful rebuild.

    Barca are an example of how pride not only causes but maintains and compounds incompetence. Got into a bad financial position, mortgaged their future to keep up appearances, and have already ‘Michael Owened’ two players & on track for more, years of potential talent they’re losing in the future whether bought or grown.

    • @prajwal_lax
      @prajwal_lax Před 2 měsíci +8

      This is such a naive take. Barca losing €30-40m a year in TV revenue was a calculated gamble made against potentially earning more through matchday revenue and an immediate cash injection that was used mostly for economic stability. About €140m of the €400-500m that came in was spent on transfers, rest on loans previously taken and on other projects.
      You're right about Pedri's overuse but not Ansu. He didn't play significant minutes his first and it was early in his second season during which that he picked up a contact injury that has so far derailed his career. Gavi picked up an ACL when was playing an inconsequential game for Spain..

    • @ASH-su6nb
      @ASH-su6nb Před měsícem +1

      mciheal owened who pedri? the major reason he got injured was because of spain, the year he played "alot" he played two full matches with barca as opposed to 17 full matches in spanish national team (they called him to Euros where he was played in all the minutes except 2) threee days later he was called to olympics in Tokyo. Ansu was really unlucky with his injuries. Barca has been really good with their man management.

    • @Carebearwithfam
      @Carebearwithfam Před měsícem

      The usual bad takes around barca. Selling la liga revenue is currently around 5% of the income. It will reduce further when new Camp Nou fully operating with more matchday revenue and Spotify sponsorship increasing. For Leeds United selling tv rights revenue wouldnt be good but we are talking about a massive money machine in a hot tourist city. They (barca) will always be a giant

    If I’m being super honest this podcast is being run very incompetently. Never a coherent release time with the Spotify release and CZcams release, sometimes days are skipped with simply no video. It seems like there’s no actual release time for the videos and they’re just being dropped whenever the editor feels like. There are smaller channels more consistent than this. Try to do better
