If the other acts wanted to remember, they should have put in the same effort as Queen. But no, they only cared about promoting their new material. This was a charity concert for pitys sake, what were they thinking the arrogant gits. I think if Queen never performed, this would have been a major flop, and no money would have been raised.
But that's my opinion, take it or leave it.
A reporter once asked Freddie what instrument he played. He responded, ‘The audience, my dear.’ ❤️❤️❤️

I heard a Roger Taylor interview recently and when asked about Live Aid he said that they were scared in terms of crowd size but he said the acoustics on the stage itself were SO bad, the couldn't hear each other at all! They did that entire performance using, Roger said, eye contact, body language & everyone played by memory. That was scarey. They gave a flawless performance!
That makes a lot of sense cause if u look u can see John Deacon keep going over to Roger to keep time maybe ???

The amazing thing is that, the crowd wasn’t made up of all Queen fans, yet he had total control. Freddy stole that show.
Well, let's be honest, i'm old enough to remember that even if Queen wasn't your favorite, we knew all the songs and words. They were difficult to dislike i might say.
Out of everything Freddie could play, he said his favorite was the audience.
I attended Live Aid I was 25 years old from Randleman NC. I won the tickets by a radio contest that you had to be the first person to arrive in the parking lot of Kiss FM. My best friend and I went. The concert passes, round trip airfare and hotel room all part of the contest. I felt like a rock star when the morning of our departure the local news channel was at the airport to see us off. The concert was amazing. I’m now 62 years old and that day in my life will stand out as knowing I was there that day in music history. It was the Woodstock of the 80’s.

I was at Wembley that day. There were so many great performances, but of course Queen is the one that stands out. The Radio Ga-Ga handclaps are an iconic moment trapped in time for me. The only point of the day that was as emotional as Queen’s performance was the video of the starving in Ethiopia set to the song ‘Drive’ by The Cars. Anyone who was there will never forget.
Most of the performamers said Queen stole the show. YES THEY DID!!!!!
Freddie could play a crowd like a musical instrument artist and showmen supreme.
This is called The Greatest 20 Minutes in Rock History for a reason. There will never be another Freddie & the rest of the band were the perfect mix. Brian always had many guitars through a show. A lot of the songs you didn’t know where from their most recent hit album The Game. I saw The Game tour in Toronto & will always be grateful I saw Queen live (was 16 and like everyone else, knew every word to every song).
Whenever Freddie was directing the audience to “copy” him here (‘AY-OH”)… What most folks don’t know is:

I watched a documentary and they said donations were really slowing down and they were afraid they weren't going to reach their goal. Then Queen took the stage. Donations picked up immediately. A Sultan from Saudi Arabia donated $1,000,000.00. Queen made their day.
LiveAid 1985 was for the famine relief in Africa. As for the mic stand, at one of their concerts early in their career, when he grabbed the mic and it ended up breaking and instead of stopping to replace the mic, he just went with it and he just ended up using it that way for all of their shows. Freddie has a way of crowd control. Totally amazing. Under Pressure live at Wembley (5:56 minute version). The crowd control in this song is crazy. You can never go wrong with Queen. @@TheDivayenta Thank you. Nowadays I don't know who's being sincere or not. I and a few other people have been criticized by some of the comments that we have made when it came to Queen.
I was 13 & sat through all these artists I had never heard before (including Madonna), and refused to go out for food with my parents until I watched Queen. I am not a fanatic of anybody, but when the news came on that Freddie had died my mother came into my bedroom & work me up to tell me & I cried.
80,000 people in wembly stadium and over 1.6 billion people worldwide all witnessed the best 22 minutes of music history......all this without the internet or Auto Tune ....
Doesn’t matter how tired I am, the minute I start watching this performance I’m all over my room singing n dancing 😂!!! True legends never really die !!! ❤❤❤❤
That is why people are still reacting to the performance today. They put modern performances to shame with not only talent but also by being professional and dedicated to their art. They came up the hard way and are better for it. They weren't overnight sensations who disappear in a year or 2 like people of x factor.
Each act was allotted exactly 20 minutes to perform. If you watch closely at the end of We are the Champions, as Freddie is stepping back on stage you can see near the edge of the stage red flashing spot light. There was a green, yellow and red light there so the performers could gauge how much time they had left. Once the red light went out, at the 20 minute mark the sound would be cut off, even if the act was in mid performance. Queen was one of the few acts that took this concert seriously having a great work ethic. They rehearsed for a couple of weeks, having large white clocks placed around the rehearsal studio so that that they could time their performance. Some songs were cut short (Bohemian Rhapsody and We Will Rock You) others had their tempo sped up so they could fit into the 2O minutes. For some early Queen, react to Liar, Dragon Attack and White Queen live.
You can also see that Queen's last note ended right on time.
There was a total of 75 acts between both concerts. Each had 20 mins. They were warned no matter who they were if they went over the power would be turned off. Lady Gaga got her name from this song. Phil Collins played both concerts he flew on the Concord jet to do it.
This particular video has a few seconds cut out towards the end. They weren’t cut off at all.
I feel sorry for any performer that had to follow this performance!
Freddie gave his all even through his illness.

Freddie’s showmanship made sure everybody was part of entertaining everyone, even those at home thus Freddie involved the camera.
Live Aid also had minor concerts in the then USSR, Holland, Austria, Germany, Japan. It was literally a worldwide effort, and such a privilege to be a part of it. Even if you were just someone in attendance, your ticket money helped. It's a rare thing to be a part of something so big and worthy.
This is the magic of Queen! I could watch this everyday in a loop that never ends. So glad we have a video of this history making event. Freddie Mercury was mesmerizing. A an forever. Thank you for reacting to the greatest concert on the planet!!

We had been there for about seven hours or so before Queen, so everyone was getting a little jaded, but the atmosphere was electric when they came on, it energized the whole crowd. We sang every song, we swayed, we clapped, we cheered and we stamped our feet. Going home Queen was all anyone talked about, they were just that good.

Freddie's Doctor told him not to perform as he was sick and there were over 20 Groups on that day supporting the fundraising for the famine in Africa so that was not even a Queen crowd..😶The Official 72,000 crowd is a joke as that stadium had 100,000 AROUND the pitch and then add ALL of those endless thousands in front of the stage. I reckon over 100,000 lol
Now you know why everybody wanted you to see this. Queen took their allotted 20 minute slot, and made history. Big names were playing, Dire Straights, U2, Elton John-----but the one that everybody remembers is Queen. You should do "Thank God It's Christmas" soon. 😉 Story goes that early in their performing days, the mic stand broke, and Freddie decided it worked better that way, and it was easy to hand-off to a stagehand when he sat to play the piano.
I was at the Wembley concert because I was a massive Adam Ant fan.

I initially liked Queen, but after that performance, they were my favourite and have been ever since. It was the best 24 hours of my life. ( concert time, queuing time and travelling time ).
It's funny how there's so many reactions to the Queen set on youtube......Freddie and Brian appeared later on in the concert and performed " Is this the world we created"
It's always overlooked and was a highlight of the concert for many fans.

Oh yes Rogers vocals are definitely there & perfectly sung backing Freddie ❤ all four are multi instrumentalists they are all inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame & Songwriters Hall of Fame Freddie has a diploma in graphic art and design Roger has a degree in Biology after switching from Dentistry Brian is Dr Brian May he has a PHD in astrophysics & John has a first class honours degree in engineering one AMAZING band love them ❤❤
I watched this live in 1985, Freddie's performance has not been matched and never will be.
Roger's vocals were very much present throughout and pretty much perfect. I think you probably didn't notice because there was so much going on and they never put the camera on Roger because Freddie was absolutely on fire, captivating everyone's attention. It's hard to process everything at once. I'm glad you found the end of the show. I've seen many get duped by that version. Great reaction, thanks! Interesting fact about Freddy that you may not know: The unique look of his mouth was due to the fact that he had four extra teeth! I'm not sure about where they were located in his mouth, but I do know hw wouldn't have them removed because he was afraid it would change his vocal ability.

Lady Gaga got her name from Radio Gaga! She was a huge Queen fan in high school (still, I imagine) and somehow the nickname stuck from that song. Elton John and Freddie were very close friends and he's said how much Freddie would have loved her (can't remember where - I may have read it in his autobiography). She'd godmother to Elton's sons.

There's some extra footage from Live Aid that many forget. There was a delay later in the gig and Brian and Freddie came back on and did an acoustic version of 'Is This The World We Created'. It is a beautiful moment. Well worth finding if you can. ‼Actually, having seen the time appear on screen at the end of the clip you watched, I think it might be next if you let the clip keep playing. 9.48pm was about the time they came back on.

Great reation and great Pickup on Brian's guitars in Crazy Little Thing Called Love. He starts on an acoustic guitar, then goes to a Fender Stratocaster, then finishes with his homemade guitar, The Red Special. Most people don't pick up that he changes guitars. They each provide a specific tone and "voice" to the song.
I remember being at a friend's party when this was being broadcast live ..Queens performance still sends shivers through my spine...

In 2005, their Live Aid performance was named the greatest live rock performance of all time by a BBC poll, ahead of Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock and the Rolling Stones’ free gig in Hyde Park.
This was beyond amazing. Sends chillzzz thru every part of u. It still makes me cry when I watch. The biggest compliment to an artist is to have ur music sung back to u. He had a bad throat and was advised by the doctor not to perform but Queen did and made history. All acts had 20 minutes for their act and if they went over they would be pulled. Queen did the most songs in their set and finished dead on time. That is how good they were.

Incredible show. I have seen it so many times and every time I love it still. I feel like I am in the crowd every time. Live Aid was raising money for Famine Relief in Africa.. Brian plays 3 different guitars on Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Acoustic, Stratocaster and his own Red Special. Not your fault, it is the video that is the problem. @@lynette. If you go back and watch, I believe you will see that Brian starts with an acoustic, then he switches to a black Stratocaster and finishes with his Red Special. Brian usually if not always played this song live with the three guitars. Brian never wanted to add the Strat to the song but as he says, "somebody" (perhaps Freddie) insisted because they wanted that distinct Elvis sound, so under protest, Brian added the Strat., before finishing with Red.

Not Stratocaster, it's Telecaster
The guitar Brian usually plays is called the Red Special and he made it with his Dad out of things they found around the the house. Wood from the fireplace mantle & the whammy bar is one of his Mom’s knitting needles.
And so on 1985 during summer, I was vacationing in the Caribbean at my parent's country as usual back then. Sitting on the floor with my cousins watching this concert on MTV all day long, when Queen came on I knew I was witnessing history on TV, I was 14. I still miss Freddie until this day.
You know what makes you different from a lot of react channels. They watch the video and give us. I liked it or I don't like it. You fully embrace what you are hearing and just take it all in. Then you articulate why you liked what you heard. It's also lovely to see you really get into it and love it like you did here. I come from a musical back ground. My mother, me, my daughter we are all musicians. So I have been exposed to all kinds of music my whole life. So when I see someone being exposed to new music and really enjoying it. It warms my soul. Keep it up and I can not wait for you to start experiencing Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, and so many others. I am here for the journey man.

I have to agree with Daisy, you get into the music and you FEEL it! I love that!! And I second Daisy's recommendation of Iron Maiden. Everything they did was awesome, except the 2 albums they did without Bruce. Don't bother with those. Brave New World is my absolute favorite and Blood Brothers is my ringtone.

It was Ethiopian famine thousands and thousands of people were in need and the music industry pitched up to hold a world wide gig from two centres, they raised millions for the effort of relief. We had a garden BBQ listening all day to this it was a hot day in the UK. All those groups from the 80s giving their time and showmanship for this effort. This went all around the world braudcast on TV and Radio
He could easily sing opera. Music, lyrics, singing and getting the audience a part in the show.
He did sing opera- and everything else for that matter.
@@aimlessbauer9082 You Have to watch Barcelona, it was written by him and sung with the number one Soprano in the world, Montserrat Caballe, He went to the opera to hear Pavarotti and fell in love with her voice and had to meet her. They feel in love with each other and the rest is history. Barcelona is an amazing mash between rock and opera. The song was played for the Olympics in Spain in 1992, he didn't make it to the performance. The man could do no wrong and could write and sing it all.
Loved your reaction! Live Aid 1985 was to raise money for the devastating famine in Africa. Many bands and individual performers agreed to give their time for the cause - Madonna, Elton John, David Bowie, U2, Led Zeppelin, etc. The show went on for many many hours. Each performer or band only had 20 minutes to perform. Queen practiced - and practiced and practiced!! - to make sure that they could fit 6 of their most popular songs into the 20 minutes (They did a much shortened version of Bohemian Rhapsody.) They brought their performance to a close in 20 minutes, 10 seconds. Talk about perfection!! And what a performance they gave - the band was on point and Freddie's vocals were incredible. Iconic!
Watched this Live Freddie was suffering a throat infection at the but went on despite this, He is 1 of the most singers/entertainers in history sadly missed to music 1of a kind

Freddie often had a drink of hot honey and lemon juice, especially when he was having throat problems like he had for this concert. He did have beer and water available at other times.
I was looking for this comment! Thank you. Yes he was apparently sick and his doctor told him not to perform but he did it anyway. You can tell and some of his songs because he goes down an octave instead of up but that being said, to me this is the best performance I've ever seen in my life and I've seen a lot. I watched it live at home I was 15. Not even old enough then to appreciate how freaking amazing and iconic this was. I knew it was amazing but I had no idea at the time what I was witnessing
Roger did sing but only to support Freddie's voice when he had to hit high notes because of his throat infection. If you listen you can hear his voice. He also sings along with the rest of the band during the song Radio Ga Ga. Roger is the one who wrote that song.

They had just come off a tour….they had been playing together.

I read somewhere that Freddie said his throat felt like he was gargling with crushed glass while singing at this show. That's dedication...and talent.

The outfit is what Rami Malek wore at live aid in the movie, maybe that's where you saw it. Live Aid was a big deal, it was to raise money for the famine in Africa. Did you know that Freddie was born in Zanzibar in Africa and went to boarding school in India and moved to England at 18.

Thanks for another great reaction... so nice you thoroughly enjoyed their performance... yes, Brian changed guitars 3 times during their "Crazy" song, BUT did you notice, not once did the cameraman ever show Roger or John directly.... only Freddie and occasionally Brian... they also did an encore song to end the show called "Is this the World We Created"... yes, they gave you a bad video, where the split ended... blessings.
The mike stand? Probably the world's longest "I meant to do that."
For your listening pleasure, get the snacks out and watch Queen Live at Wembley 86/87 the concert is full length and many brilliant songs... a reaction you might like to do is the audience spontaneously breaking into song Bohemian Rhapsody.. yep.. 30 years after Freddie had passed... the fabulous Hyde Park and at a Cold Play concert before the group came on stage

It's the same as mine was when I was sitting at home in New York watching it live on my TV in 1985. And I've watched this video hundreds of times..... it never gets old. R.I.P. dear Freddie. You are not forgotten...... Back in the early days of Queen, Freddie grabbed the mic and it broke and he just went with it. He liked it. So that became his signature mic... There was a devastating famine in Ethiopa at the time. Live Aid was to raise money to provide food and other aid to the people of Ethiopia.

Yes. He also played the audience. He was a unique talent with the piano but he always thought he sucked. His strongest instrument was the audience. He played the audience like nobody else!

Great reaction! You are one of my favorites. Brian and Freddie actually did another segment later that night. It was on this video, you had to wait till it goes dark, pause several seconds, then they came on. It may have been altered.
I am a "gaga over them" superfan and I will give away my age here, but I got to see this angel on earth 3 times! Freddie was one of God's masterpieces on earth. We were truly blessed that he touched our musical hearts! Actually going to see the IMAX and laser show film of their 1981 concert in Montreal tonight! This 62 year old lady is PUMPED!!
Brian mainly plays on his red special which he built along with his dad. It has a very unique sound. Queen is the only rock band where all the band members have written multipal No 1 hits.
The mic stand is his signature singing mode. The Movie Bohemian Rhapsody will show how it got started.
Dave here. Glad you did this. More info to freak you out. Brian's guitar (Big Red) he and his father built. Brian is an astrophysicist, his dad an engineer. He sold the rights and design to a company to produce. They had multiple problems recreating the guitar and having it stay tuned. I think Brian bought the company and now there is the BM3, an amazing guitar. Each of these men stands out on their own; combined the sum greater than the parts = Queen.
