      Lol, thank you, my friend. This video was fun to create.
      One of my first builds was a Hexadin, actually. So, if you are looking for a more casual build, or one that's pure roleplay, check out my build Soul Caliber's Nightmare.

      @@Drahjan_BeginDownload well anyways I tend to make my warlock paladin builds very different to how you did this one (also I call this type of multi-class between them the warden) (though I constantly forget which subclasses I use)
      The concept for this multi-class is essentially too heavily focus on both Divine and Eldritch abilities more particularly (especially for a recent character mine) the divine an Eldritch smite
      I did this is in two separate ways the first was to have dual weapons master Eldritch smite on one blade and divine smite on the other
      The other character only had one blade that he could combine both Divine smite and Eldritch smite onto (the the DM like to call it yin and yang smite) this type of smite one weakness acrost the alignment chart being the neutral section as they were neither good nor evil he was fun to play (I think this was only was possible through rule of cool though)

    You started so well making it sound like you where going to explain why a paladin diety and a warlock patron would work together. Then jump to stat usage where I though you was going along the line of justifying the multiclass. Imo one or the other would have an issue with each other and pull the power given to the pc. I tell my players not to just make a sratblock but somthing with a soild story. Only paladin subclass i see working well is oathbreaker (i don't just mean with mechanics )
    My main reason of watching this video is one of my players is trying to go into vengence paladin hexblade. I was trying to find a sustification for it as i don't see it making sense.

    • @Drahjan_BeginDownload
      @Drahjan_BeginDownload  Před rokem +1

      I didn't go into a full backstory justification, but here's what I thought of when I was working on this build:
      The Sword of Kas, the Vampire who betrayed his master, Vecna. This sentient blade is perfect for anyone who is thinking about taking up the mantle of the Hexblade. Especially a Paladin sworn to fight off the forces of the Undead.
      However, being a Cursed Weapon, the sword begins to whisper to the Paladin. Coaxing them into doing acts that are normally something that the Paladin wouldn't do but sound reasonable for getting closer to their ultimate goal of destroying the forces of evil.
      Ever so slowly, the Sword of Kas uses their shared goal to corrupt the Paladin, much like it did with its original owner.
      Not my best explanation of how this would work. For a better backstory and how Paladin and Warlock would blend together, I recommend one of my first Character Conversions: Seigfried & Nightmare. It even goes into alternative Paladin Oaths. Which I believe is what you're looking for.
      I agree that a player should use their backstory to justify their multiclass. It gives characters more flavor and depth.

      @Connor Dempsey You're welcome, my friend! My main goal is to help inspire players and DMs alike. I highly recommend my main Character Concept series, where I go over the lore of each of the playable races and pair them with Backgrounds and Subclasses that best suit that lore. Helping players make living, breathing characters instead of stat blocks that turn enemies into paste and XP.

      @@Drahjan_BeginDownload the one thing I hate is a pc statblock rather than character concepts . The next time I start a campaign at session zero. I want my players to create the character before adding combat mechanics via classes

    • @Drahjan_BeginDownload
      @Drahjan_BeginDownload  Před rokem +1

      @Connor Dempsey Breathing life into a character is what makes the creation process fun.
      I totally agree. A player will enjoy the game more if they live through their character, in a sense.
      Unfortunately, there are people who are strictly number crunchers and war gamers. Which is why I started this series of OPTIMIZED builds; so that the number crunchers also have something to look forward to when playing D&D.
      Now, I do recommend a particular race if a war gamer is trying to get into the role-playing aspect of the game: Hobgoblins. These Goblinoids are the war gamers of D&D, and they can be fun to play if you insert that strategic mentality into them.

      @Drahjan_BeginDownload  Před rokem

      @@theforeverdragonmaster3727 But I think I understand some of it, so I will attempt to respond to what I think you're saying.
      While yes, there are multiple ways of optimizing a build, the Paladin/Warlock is limited, as we are attempting to maximize our damage output.
      Our Paladin's Oath needs to have abilities that help with the damage increase. With the build in the video, we were able to do so with that Oath's special Aura feature (which increases the damage of our nearby minions by our CHA modifier) and being able to use the Channel Divinity to control an opposing threat. However, the problem with this multiclass is that we need to watch our Warlock levels if we want to use certain Eldritch Invocations (EX: Eldritch Smite). So some of our Paladin's Oath features are unable to be accessed. This is why we also chose Hexblade as our patron, as it was capable of summoning a minion which is then empowered by the Paladin Oath's Aura.
      The second issue was our Spell Slots. We only have 3 5th level Warlock slots as well as four 1st Level and three 2nd level Paladin Spell Slots. This means that our battles will mostly be fought by our minions, which we will be making over various short rests to replenish our Warlock Spell Slots [roughly 5 in-game hours each in-game day].
      Once our army is at a decent size, we need to use our Warlock Slots for our Divine Smite [5d8 + 1d8 from Improved Divine Smite] and Eldritch Smite [6d8]; but only of enemies that bypass our army, which will happen.
      With this build, a Hexadin with a CHA of 20 and STR of 14 should be able to swing a normal, non-magical Greatsword for: 2d6 +2 +5 +10 +6d8 Radiant +6d8 Force. For an average damage roll of: 78 damage in one attack. And that doesn't count any Crits or any bonuses from any of the Paladin spells you could use as part of your Bonus Action. Not to mention that's only from a non-magical weapon!
      And we aren't even calculating the damage our minions will do on their turns!
