- In this how to video, I show the proper method to bore and hone motorcycle cylinders and then fit oversized piston . Boring removes cylinder scores, pits and ridges and is done in oversize increments. The honing de-glazes and provides a cross-hatched surface for proper ring wear-in and performance. Proper methods for a top end refresh or part of total engine rebuild.

Yes- you can just buy Ichiban Moto stickers - they are on ebay. If you don't have ebay/ paypal, you may mail me a minimum donation of $1 per sticker- along with your self addressed and stamped envelope. Stickers and donations are how I fund this fun ! - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I nearly fell off the bed when I saw your cylinder bore tool. Awesome!
+David's Favorite Videos engine work is a breeze when you have the correct tools
I did this and I turned my 4 stroke into a 2 stroke, thanks man!
i believe you now have a 3rd leg now.
lol😂
PMSL!!!!
hahahahahahaha
CYRRYANC97 lol
I have watched this video 3 to 4 times already, ages ago. Then my brother wanted to know how to rebore for his ktm... I referred him to this video... I'm still crying with laughter. We both are!!! Brilliant!!!
lol awesome! thanks for sharing. so badass
I have used a 4 stone cylinder hone to bore out .25 mm over , but doing this I was able to bore it out a full inch and install a chevy 350 piston on my bike, Thanks bro.
so i took my CBR 125 and used you tactic and now its an 8.6l V8 what did i do wrong?
+Nazimelon just keep the tank full of fuel and go with it !
Nazimelonhamster repack your muffler bearings with a pipe stretcher. come back with results
You bought the wrong bike, buy a different model and try it again
remember to switch to DOT5 blinker fluid because ive had problem in the past.
Pro Tip: Put some of those stickers on the top of the piston to raise the compression!
+ Aaron Morris ;
I've found they also help to prevent burn thru on properly timed Yamasockie RDZ's .
go to a machine shop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pro tip
j
Haha, watched this with my kids (who are all very competent mechanics with multiple rebuilds under their belts) and much laughter ensued. Thanks!
This is pretty much how the Chinese build anything.
You mean "COPY" then build lol
I love how you keep all the work in house,
I hate sending my stuff out. you never know what the engineering shops get up to , Cutting corners etc to save money
it wasnt so much the spoons, but the egg beater that rolled my office chair out from under me. Pretty slick use of chowing tools. Awesome Video!!
i should do a video about al of my hand drills
@@IchibanMoto THis is gonna get insane. I opened a Cycle & ATV shop last summer here in Maine. setting up cameras etc to get the channel back up and running. I got so much stupid tools that I use on the customers to freak em out. I loved it, break em out and show us the collection !!
@@FarmPrepper1 I also have a bunch of videos of tools i made. i do need to dig this stuff out
I like how you demystify mechanical operations. After watching this last video, it gave me the confidence to go out to the garage and wrestle that old /69 CB750 Four engine out, strip it down to oil pan, right there on the floor. All new gaskets from a top quality beer cast. new seals all round with hemp rope. Only the best, just like you. Bored out with a coke bottle and sand and finish honed with your great device and varsol. It leaks a little oil, but that will seal when it heats up after I get it out in the spring. I'm really looking forward to taking her out for that first spring ride. On the up side, this whole adventure has been a win, win experience I have an aces fresh rebuild, just wanting to go and almost enough parts left over to build another engine. thanks
John Mccaffrey ill give you 50 bucks...but i want all the crates
This is my favorite of all your videos. I tried to blind bore a cylinder with this method and the original taper came out perfect!
precision awesomeness !
That was an excellent demonstration. I remember a guy who used the same procedure back in the day. I think I already have all the tools. Just need some sand from the beach. Thank You.
I haven't laughed this hard in days.....
your welcome :D
@@IchibanMoto I shipped wheels/ tires to you for a tire install..On a 1975 Suzuki Gt750..And they were shipped Back Whitewalls IN ..I SAID Whitewalls OUt..WHITEWALLS OUT! Dammit!
I have always used piston enlargement fluid but what there is a thousand ways to kill a mocking bird
I love how you enlarged those pistons to fit the cylinders. Brilliant!
***** yes, you don't want undersized pistons flopping around in the cylinders
My scooty was producing 9brake horse power before boring after your method its producing around 900brake horse power thanks bro so help full i have becam drag racer because of your video
Great Vidio. Just used your processes on my airplane engine. Saved over $100,000. Test flight tomorrow..........
i filmed a port a polish video also,. need to find the footage
Ichiban Man, you are a mechanical whiz kid! You are killing me. My wife thinks I must be watching FAIL videos again.
I tried this on my little brother's Honda 125cc. He left on a 'brief' test ride four days ago and has not yet returned. All must be going well and I would bet that he is having a great time!!! Thanks Ichiban!!
+BourgeoisCapitalist bad ass awesome ! :D
laugh all you want folks, during the upcoming economic collapse and subsequent EMP blast, Itchi will be one of the ones boring cylinders, keeping those bikes running. Bad Ass
pricing subject to change
Fantastic job!!!!! That took some serious skill. And, thanks for the tape suggestion. I've overhauled my aircraft engine with spoons and tape. Works perfectly. Had a good laugh, thanks...
That spoon honing tool with that duck tape is something every engine builder needs in his tool box. Couldnt get the job done without it.
Every time I search for cylinder honing, this is the second video in results and each time I watch it.......... Very informative!
Now thats the real deal Mcgyver tacktics. Plastic spoons, duct tape and home made precision toolz can go a long way lol.
oldskool funk thanks for watching and sharing !
Red-Green would be proud. I died on the plastic spoon hone... was revived, then the duct tape to oversize the piston removed at least 5 more years off my life.
How am I the first to reply to these 2 legends interacting?
Another rake armature dispening bad advise, he shows using A&H to hone the cylinder. Throw that shit out, use only Colgate when honing! Do it right or don't even bother. Totally forgot to spit and rinse when done honing too.Only thing nise I can say is he does have safetee googles.was worth the 3:08, real hoot. great matter-of-fact tone in the narration, adds credibility and believability. You have a future in junk bond sales.
Glad I found ya Ichiban Moto , I've been doing things all wrong! It takes an incredible amount of skill and experience to produce curly metal shavings with plastic spoons and some paste. May we all aspire to your level of skill and remain humble LOL
your a life saver ,fixed my chainsaw bore and used a harley piston worked a treat
+howietorock I need to build a chainsaw out of something and some bits, there is a dead pine in the garden about ready to take a fall
Aaaaand...another bad-ass man with his bad-ass tools just giving away those precious secrets that all the greats used!! The overheat tip was probably the most important tidbit of the whole video!! Bad ASS!!
ALWAYS use either KY jelly or Apple ( not Grape) jelly as a premium lubricant on suck precise boring and honing applications. Almost all cylinder head cracks can be filled in with black shoe polish. Putting a teaspoon of sand in with your new oil change will eliminate sludge in your crankcase. A few drops of local honey will seal cracks in your battery.
Awesome tutorial. Did this on my Tesla, and it worked a treat!
i would like to try a go at an electric motorbike conversion. there is a Vintage Voltage series on motortrend tv about a Welsh shop installing tesla gear in vintage motors.
I once used that cross thatch technique roofing a cottage in Oxfordshire. The owners vehicle was double overhead brush shafts and 16 nails.
Used your technique. My 1000cc is now a 2300cc or technically 2.3litre. I'm using Methyl Ethyl Casitone fuel for rocket like purpolsion. Can now run 0-60 in 2.2 secs and run an 8 sec 1/4mile!! Thanks dude!!
+Alan Padgett hey, that's legit. :)
you make it look so easy, and there i was taking my stuff to be machined over the years never again just got to get a tennis ball and some tape!
You are so awesome, taking things to an atomic level for added safety. Green zip ties rule!
+David's Favorite Videos I rarely take chances when it comes to safety !
Perfect. I dont know why I was so afraid to attempt this myself.
😆
I used your technique on my Yamaha ttr-90, but the cut was so aggressive that the cylinder is now ventilated all the way to the cooling fins. Will this just make that little dirt bike run cooler now? I had to use a LOT of cylinder tape to make it fit, but I think it just looks cool now that I can actually watch the piston move up and down between the cooling fins...BAD ASS!
his is the best tutorial ive ever found i also like that i have all the stuff to make his tools XD
I am particularly impressed with your ability to recycle and reuse seemingly useless junk into precision workshop tools. Great job going green! One question, is your honing oil recycled from deep fryers, or do you source waste motor oil?
Awesome info, I'm gonna give it try tonight on my lawnmowers.
Dude this like freakin Stone Age technology of machining.how can a bore be consistent in a hand feed process?u are freaking crazy man.
Dammit, here I was looking for a new boring bar and I end up watching another one of your videos.
Unreal skills! Badass is an understatement...
Did this to my Yamaha RT 360 now it's a Honda Dominator.
Thanks Man really Bad Ass
I nearly fell of my chair when you showed the boring tool!!!
+Johnny Shitpeas I just love high quality precision tools
this worked on my rare 1915 Harley Davidson motorcycle cylinder .
I can't stop watching these! I'm in stitches.
:) thanks for watching and sharing !
No special tools! I love your channel, keep them coming, Thanks
Do they make nickaseal tape for those with nickaseal cylinders?
Best line - " and it looks badass "
DUDE I DID THIS AND PICKED UP 38 h,p. THANKS MAN !!!
One of the best ! Laughed all the way to the Ichiban stickers.
O.k. Again, I laughed so that I almost burst with laughter...
job done !
Brilliant, just efin brilliant. Thanks for the info.
troll level....expert
lifebeginsat190 especially that metal chips with plastic spoons
@@mp04bhopal yeah that's impossible
Loved the little scissors :)
This is is best thing ever done on CZcams. Sharing on Minimania.
A well educational video. Dose the honing ball only works with 2-stoke cylinders? Or can I just pick 4-stroke cylinder paste when honing my 4-stroker? Thanks for sharing.
you need to use the proper hone as well. and remember to chamfer the spark plug
i was just wondering how much you charge to do any sort of work? ive been looking for someone to help in my half restore on my 1975 yamaha chappy 80cc. i got it running just need few tips and tricks on how to tune the oil injector, carb, and wiring. best of luck on other videos and thank you for the knowledge.
So where do I get that piston shim material? I tried jb weld dipping it and then sandpaper but it didn’t like the heat.
oh man like ur tools, thats give me a hope to repair my custom bike by myself. THX!
Im still undecided with this guy. I feel like the older generation have a duty to pass on wisdom and there is a need for this kinda of content.
The other side of me can appreciate the master tier trolling.
I think we need education more than we need trolling....
You are cracking me up. I had to subscribe. Well done my friend. Well done.
Thanks for an insight into the mystical world of the machine shop!It is awesome what you can achieve with a few hand tools in your garage it puts the 'professionals' to shame! Any chance you could show us how to rebuild a cylinder head and all of its complicated valve stuff???? :)
ninjanelly350 absolutely ! if anyone wants to mail me a cylinder head, I will shoot a vid of it !
Loved the pie-tape measuring device .
Looked for it in the Nickel Town catalog .
They say it's on back order till 2020, what can I do till then ?
i should make a video on how to knock one off
would forks work in place of the spoons on a 1st gen mazda 12a rotary? we dont have any spoons handy in my shop
sporks would be a better compromise
you just earned a sub..this made my day
Thanks For the Video ! Step by step, I was able to get my RD 400 jugs with a Good Crosshatch. I will box, ship and provide specs for you to Bore out My front forks. And i need them Turned upside down as well. They are Right Side Up units stock. What is the charge for that service. ? Thank you in advance!
it would be cheaper to convert to Australian spec forks
BADASS !!!!
My bike quickly blew a again after re creating your tools and following directions
Crazy thing is if you havent seen his other videos this guy is 100% serious!
Thanks for that. How many years did you turn your mixer before you went crazy?
lol, awesome job Ichiban Moto!
I followed these instructions but I think I ran the precision boring tool the wrong way as my cylinder is now smaller than when I started. Is there a piston shaving tool that I can use to shrink my piston to fit? Should I put it in the dryer to see if that works? Thanks, I'm desperate for help.
An epsom salt bath will decrease the piston diameter 1% per week if constant aggitation is maintained. I went to prison short notice and my piston was almost gone when I got back. Using reverse osmosis, I was able to bring it back but just barely, and using colloidal silver baths, it should be back to an acceptable diameter by Thanksgiving.
I just converted all my little car engines to big power-stroke diesels by using the tools and tequilas I learned from Ichiban. This dude is Bad Ass. !
+Rick Kimmerling :) .. you are bad ass Rick !
I'm not sure if this was answered in the comments below because I didn't read them. (Not to be rude. I just can't read. I'm illiterate)
Does the honing compound come in different gradients or varieties? Is there a particular flavor or brand that works best? Thanks is advance.
+blackstarfive10 I like mint, however cinnamon works well too. There are technologically advanced compounds in fruity fresh, bacon , etc. I have yet to try.
YO Ichibob,
If I have a 350cc cylinder, and I do 3 wraps of "Nickel Town Customs" custom metal piston tape around my piston, will I then have a 400cc engine?
How much horsepower will my engine gain?
Will I have to run race gas?
Please answer my legitimate tech Question.
Thx... gr8 vid. Should have watched it again before I proceeded tho. I used metal spoons instead thinking they'd be ok and now I have an egg shaped barrel. Still my friend has pointed me in the direction of a retailer that sells oversized egg shaped pistons. Phew... all will be ok after all. Thanks Man... you're a real hoot : ) Keep those excellent vids coming
+Mark Horton thanks for watching and sharing!! :D
Very nice video, doubled my horizon. But is the tape wrapped onto piston part serious at 2.00? Did you really mounted on it like this? What happened?
Thanks, man! You have done my morning! )))))))))))))))))
LOL you had me until I saw the antique spoon hone good one!😂
Does the oversize piston tape come in standard oversizes?
Very professional and precise! :-)
+Patrick Thibaut only five sticker quality done here mate !
Genius!!!! I will try this on my 911. Tomorrow ... or so. Right after switching off the carburator lights ,done some wheelys in the backyard and walked my fish.
And, Mr. Iciban san : can i Have some of your sub zero cool stickers for my bikes and cars???????Pleeeeeease???
oh yes, of course ! i send stickers to everyone who sends me mail. or you can also get them on ebay
no need for shops now great im going to use the speaker wires in the out let and weld just like you Ya Thanks!!!
This guy is just awesome. I really need to find your tool supplier as mine are junk.
+Mike King thanks for sharing Mike !
that bore tool is legit genius!!
ROTFLMAO 😂 thank you so much , videos like this at this point in time are priceless! Also you should make a video about the proven tactic of painting a bike red and putting a turbo sticker on it to increase top speed though I know your stickers reduce drag by 10% all 3 techniques should be done before going to the drag strip
Seems pretty mint and golden job
What abrasive did you use ichiban?
That's a huge work you've done here, I wish I could do the same...
+GogogoFollowMe just take it slow and go step by step.
+Ichiban Moto Where can I buy these heavy-duty high-end tools you show us in this how-to ?
+GogogoFollowMe I'm not sure I have a video on this one.. but there is a playlist on making tools on my channel
+Ichiban Moto Huge thanks, that's totally badass !
Where can I buy that honing tool?? I asked at local motorcycle dealership and they don't seem to know anything.
Dang it! I’ve been using generic aluminum foil from giant eagle this whole time to enlarge my pistons. No wonder customers have been calling me wanting to know why they had strange clicking noises from their cylinder area. I simply told them it needed a break in period of 300 hours. But it Has to be the aluminum foil brand I’m using.
Is this for 2 and 3 stroke engines only?
Ok, this one really made me die laughing!! Loving those precision tools!
You Sir, are my hero for today :D
Corpse Groinder why thank you very much ! I'm so honored . have a bad ass day!
I found adding a few drops of Listerine to honing compound makes the finish even more bad ass!
LOL toooooooooooo funny! There is, along this same vein, a tutorial where a bmw (?) corner lights have an very obvious air leak, and are only half full of fluid. Very nice presentation of how to remove reseal and refill with blinker fluid.
That is Sooooooo "BadAss"...!!!!! I think I will give it a try,,, You make it look so easy...
+Jack Assman it is a fairly straight forward process..... if you have the right tools
+Ichiban Moto is that literally what you used???
I watched the whole thing. Good job.
