    Hey Josh & Jimmy. Matt here. Ben and I had just recorded an episode when another producer here (Tyler Klang) put us onto this video. First of all, many thanks for the kind words and shoutout. Second, I've been playing MTG since 4th edition and can't wait to start listening to TCZ on a regular basis. Tyler just explained his Momir + Aluren + Edric et al + Craterhoof EDH combo to me -- I can't wait to see it in action. You guys rock! Thanks again!

    I love Marath as my tokens commander because he fixes that issue of ratios you were talking about around 68:00. Oh, I have a hand of all anthems? Sweet. I'll just use all my mana on my opponent's end step to make a bunch of Tokens from Marath, drop some anthems and swing :) Always having a token generator is amazing.

    One of my favorite ways to play a token deck is with Grand Warlord Radha. She doesn't make tokens, but I guess she "exploits" them by basically turning all of your attacking creatures into pseudo mana dorks, adding to your mana pool.
    This can get out of hand quickly if you make a bunch of tokens, swing with said tokens, generate a bunch of mana, and either in or after combat sinking that mana into huge creatures/spells, or do some cheeky tricks mid-combat to catch your opponents off-guard. You can even pair her with Savage Ventmaw and Hellkite Charger for infinite combat steps! I'm a total Gruul fanboy, and Radha can have some absolutely explosive turns.

I find him to be a very strong-but-fair commander, as the lack of red usually means that while you can make strong plays, your opponents will be able to at least see them coming. A great commander without a lot of the feel-bads that are attatched to so many others!

I end my turn with a squirrel nest and enough mana to play Derevi's second ability. Meren board wipes, ends turn. I pop the squirrel nest then play Derevi. I've got Cathar's Crusade so everybody is getting bigger. I've got Doubling Season so they are getting REALLY big. Zur goes, attacks me, I block with Derevi. On my turn, I play Derevi again and swing at Meren with lethal damage. I drop a Bane of Progress, and Zur scoops.

    I used Tuskcaller in my derevi empyrial tactician deck. Since it came with the deck it allowed me to swing out, lose 3-4 guys then hit with 4-5 1/1's, Because i had Derevi out it allowed me to put each untap on the stack and allowed me to activate the tuskcaller for each time i hit the opponent.

    • @joshleekwai8895
      @joshleekwai8895 Před 9 lety

      moonlandersgames We didn't mean to imply that Tuskcaller is a bad card. We meant to say that it requires a different kind of mechanic (cards that untap your creatures) than most token decks apply. You're example of Derevi is actually a good example of this because Derevi is not usually a "token" general.

      It is also great in Ghoulcaller Gisa, which makes zombies eaqual to the sacrificed creature's power.
      A single sacrificed 2/2 makes two 3/3's.
      Sac a 3/3 (1 left) to make a total of four 5/5's.
      Sac a 5/5 (4 left) to make a total of nine 10/10's.
      Sac a 10/10 (9 left) to make a total nineteen 20/20's.
      That gets you from a single 2/2 to nineteen 20/20 zombies with four uses of the commander. This can be done in one turn if you have Thornbite Staff equipped. This is not magical Christmas Land. this is just another day in mono black good stuff. A color with lots of ramp, card draw, tutors, and control elements to set stuff like this up.

      +Mr. Soulguy They're a concept that was created by MtG's card design team. Essentially, players are generally Spikes (players looking to win), Johnnys (players looking to use cool combos or interactions), and Timmys (players looking to use big, flashy cards) or some combination of the above. Or some combination of the above; I'm a Timmy with some Spikish tendencies, for example. All I want in life is to throw dragons at your face until you stop moving. I'm going to try to find relatively efficient ways to do that so that I don't just lose because I'm running monored dragon tribal, but ultimately I'm all about the big spells.

    Primal Vigor i would argue is better than Doubling Season. For the most part its a build around that you will be getting the most out of it. more than any of your opponents will. Plus its political. People are reluctant to destroy something that benefits them too whereas Doubling Season it a heat score and places target on your back. I play both but Primal Vigor is by and far the better card in most circumstances.

    • @charliescheirmann2926
      @charliescheirmann2926 Před 6 lety

      The interesting thing about Primal is it doubles only +1/+1's meanwhile Doubling Season doubles all counters, meaning if someone were to put 3 -1/-1's on your creatures it doubles that to 6. But due to rule technicalities Loyalty on Planeswalkers are treated as counters so as they enter the board. So Doubling Season essentially doubles your initial Loyalty count on them, allowing a lot of Planswalkers to instantly ULT when they enter the field allowing for some nasty things. The only problem with this the the Loyalty Abilities such as their +1 to their loyalty count if 'you do this' does not double because this is technically a cost, and the counters aren't being put "onto" the Walker.
