    I have been playing EDH for a few years now and I still learned some things from this podcast. Hopefully it shows that you never stop learning MTG and not that I am an awful player....

      MTG is complex enough to make a Turing Machine, more complex than Go.
      Always more to learn.

    Thanks for all the information on constructing the Landside of my Commanderdeck.
    I was still using the 1/3 "rule" from my old days of playing 60 card decks. Thanks to you the powerlevel of my decks has skyrocketed... the only downside ist that I am now the first target in all games in my playgroup. ;-)

    In case anyone wanted to search for mana symbols on gatherer use -> {w} {u} {b} {r} {g}
    and for specific lands producing those of course select land as card type!

    In my first deck, nazahn, I think I listened to this video like 4 times. It definitely worked a treat because I really haven't been mana screwed in my openings.

    That math seems super incorrect after using a hypergeometric calculator. If I have 36 lands in my 99, then after seeing 11 cards my chance that 4 or more of them are lands is about 62%.
    If you guys are talking about expected values then I guess the n*K/N = 11*36/99 would be 4. So the average is 4 successes. So maybe that's what you mean and I'm misunderstanding?

      Steven Luoma you should figure in card draw spells and land ramp which is different for most decks

    Interesting listen guys! As a new edh player my manabases are pretty mediocre so I found this fascinating. I want to make a Damia deck and tricolors have been intimidating. Not anymore!

    I’ve been sitting here listening on my phone while building a Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist deck. Sat down and told myself I would put 40 lands in. Ended with 39.

    For mine for my 5 color I run 4 of each basis and the rest are duels
    Basics are good like they adhere to to function of magic
    But usually for any color combination I literally count how many lands I’d need to cast every card of that color say I need a total of 8 swamps in my mana cost of every black card I have I run 16 Swamps
    Now when that’s all evened out and I see one color that has more then the rest I take the duels lands from that
    Sounds complicated but if I’m need 8 swamps and I run 16 of them I have 30 other forest 10 of those are duels lands
    I run 30-35 lands really depends on the deck though my 5 color jodoh deck only needs one of each color to function normally

    I have 33 lands in my mono white deck and my average cmc is 2.64 so i can get easily when i needs them. I have Tithe, Gift of Estates, Sword of the Animist and other artifact ramp and its working good. I am thinking buying Land Tax and because that no manascrew whit it.

    • @DreamPurpleFloyd
      @DreamPurpleFloyd Před 7 lety

      I know I'm late but Land Tax is always good, even if it acivates once it's amazing card advantage. And that's even more true if you play fewer lands than the average player.

    • @jhoku1
      @jhoku1 Před 7 lety

      DreamPurpleFloyd I have thinking buying it months but it is one card that never order. Even if order bunch of other cards... It would be good. I think i try buying it in future.

    Can someone explain what this curve is they keep referring to?

    • @moncala7787
      @moncala7787 Před 5 lety +3

      UnFazed Focus the mana curve
      Its the distribution of spells in your deck sorted by converted mana cost (the total)
      If a deck is well constructed it often follows an offset parabolic arc. Which for commander is like:
      It will have a good number of 1 and 2 cost spells, a high density of 3 and 4 cost spells, a few less 5 and 6s and a handful of 7+

      @NeuroticLobster Před 5 lety +3

      This is a pointless comment, of course you run more lands in a deck that has Life from the Loam and is all about sacrificing lands.
