People like you deserve a medal
Top ten color combinations and why you should play them, strengths/weaknesses.
Yes!
Wow. +1
Two years ago, Josh would have said, “Nine guilds are tied for first place, and Boros is number 10” 😂
Anybody else want a new “best lands” video? With all the recent additions, this list is probably about due for an update 😊 especially with the Ikoria wedge lands... maybe even a longer list or just a top 10 for the more recent stuff?
29:58 I am glad you did the canyons instead! I didn't know it existed, and now it is going straight into ephara.
With the new wastes basics out, you should talk about what options there might be for colorless commander decks and what they might look like!
great episode guys. I love all the lands that you posted.
love the sideboard show! I would really enjoy hearing about your top 10 commanders.
One cool thing I found about Mirrorpool is this. I was building a Doran big butts deck with a treefolk subtheme. There is a treefolk which gives all other treefolks indestructible and +1/+1, there is also Trostani in the deck too for life gain purposes. What you can do is put a copy of that treefolk in play with Mirrorpool(which abzan alone can't do in any other way) so they give each other indestructible and then populate the token copy with Trostani each turn too to increase p/t of your treefolk each turn.
Mirrorpool is very good for this kind of uses, giving copying stuff access to colors which doesn't have that kind of stuff. And it is a very good card in a Trostani deck too I guess, since you can copy something like Avenger of Zendikar and populate it every turn for example. Since it doesn't exile itself it is probably a very good card too in a land recursion deck like Gitrog Monster or Titania. Return it constantly and copy stuff constantly for maximum value. I love it a lot because it is so versatile.
The one and only person who DID entered the studio today singing this song deserves a salary increase, just for the sake of singing it.
Josh we come to hear y'all talk about magic. We know y'all will get to whatever the episode is about eventually, but I wanna hear what y'all have to say about magic. Keep it up!
My personal top two lands are Maze's End and Rainbow Vale because I find them both hilarious to use and potentially win with in the case of Maze's End.
In response to your five-color Gitrog idea, I actually put together a four-color Lands deck that simply crammed in every legendary creature that benefitted heavily from lands (Borborygmos Enraged, Omanth Locus of Rage, Titania, Gitrog Monster, etc) and pushed in every great land producing card I could think of from Azusa to Karametra and finally I topped the deck off with mana doubling cards and Landfall triggers. The idea is to play something very big very fast, then play as many lands as you can to trigger your stuff. I called the list Pain Lands and put it up on MtGVault if anyone gets curious. The commander is Saskia, but I like to think of the first creature you play as the actual general of the deck.
An idea for a podcast could be Top 10/ Top 5 tribes in EDH
I like.
Cool idea
Yes please ^
+John Barone I think a list is a bit much, but there is certainly room for an in depth discussion on how to aproach tribal as a deck
+John Barone This. But no elves please lol
Nice video guys, was looking for something similar a few weeks ago; also got to know about a new channel, can't wait to check out more of your videos, looks really good so far.
i used to run cabal coffers, but have slowly started to phase it out. it's most effective in a mono black deck, but even then you need 4 lands in play to break even. you don't start getting value until turn 5, and until then it's a liability since it itself can't tap for mana. thats assuming you play a land every turn for the first 5 turns. i don't play in many games that are going to go 10-12 turns. which is about what this needs to start becoming actually useful.
Not sure if there's an episode already or if you could get a full episode, but top 10 most powerful commanders, also a sideboard episode would be awesome, been drafting soi on mtgo a lot over the last few days, so hearing more of what ye think about limited or any other format would be awesome
did you do top 10 tribal types in edh?
i mean like elves, goblins, etc.
you can also include suggested commanders and/or use different commanders to show the verity in the tribe
I'd love to see Jimmy and Josh revisit this list
I must admit that SOI is the only draft format I have ever drafted more than once. I loved all of the archetypes in the set.
Is the 10 tri, 10 life, and 10 guild gates the budget land for 5 colour? Remaining 7-9 lands basics and evolving wild + terramorphic? I am trying to build a budget 5 colour deck but all tapped lands puts me back so many turns. Any advice on this matter would be most appreciated. And for ramp do you use signets and chromatic latern? Or do you run more green than other colours to make use of cultivate and kodamas reach or other 2 for 1 spells?
I love the idea of child of alara for 5 colour decks which uses another theme like nekusar or gitrog, except, because all my ramps are artifact ramps, the child of alara boardwipe would destroy my mana base... And advice? Thanks.
Arcane Lighthouse, Mystifying Maze and Rogue's Passage are auto includes in all 8 of my decks.
+Killa Watt (KillaWatt) I use Urborg (not the Tomb, JUST Urborg) in my Horobi deck.
As I am a new listener and don't know if it has been done yet, but a top 10 enchantments would be great.
+Peter Lamothe Oh this a good idea. We did Top 10 Artifacts but we could do Enchantments, Creatures, Planeswalkers, etc... Good suggestion!
I love this idea! Enchantments are my second favorite card type and don't get enough attention in most strategies and deck lists. Would be interested to see the Js discuss.
Interestingly the blue swede version of "hooked on a feeling" is actually based on the Jonathan King version of the song who might've been inspired by another song from the 50's "running bear" by Johnny Preston, which is of questionable racial sensitivity. Why Jonathan King decided to use this in his cover of hooked on a feeling, originally a BJ Thomas song, or why blue swede decided to use the ooga chaka is unknown.
A sideboard episode would be awesome! Limited is my 2nd favorite form of magic!
+Sixwatt It's our second favorite also!
What do you think about Dual Lands from CE and IE (Collectors Edition and International Edition) for Commander? Not for any Kind of Tournament, but to went and play casual in a store. Gold-bordered Cards would also be a great topic.
Would be hard and VERY subjective since most card value is situational, but:
Top 10 Mana: Value ratio cards; which cards give you the most value/usefulness for mana spent. The temptation would be to break it into color, but that might defeat the challenge.
Thank you guys so much for introducing me to Red Rising! I was needing something to read coming off of reading Harry Potter for the seventh time. I'm already on Golden Son after a week of reading Red Rising and I must say I am so grateful to you guys!
where can i find 'thre command zone #3 and 4 ? i always get redirected to #104 :p
My list matched up pretty well with yours. I preferred Thespian Stage to Vesuva; but only because its more accessible (affordable to the point you find them in dollar bins a lot). It's both reassuring that my top ten off the top of my head match up with fellow players of the format and leads to good analysis of why am I not using a card they are. Glacial Chasm is just a card I have never wanted to use; but you so consistently brag about.
Anyways; great list and insightful as always.
How about some quick top 10 lists: Top 10 Counterspells? Top 10 Voltron commanders? Top 10 Token producers?
I whis Dark Depths was on the list it's a creasy land. And it's always cool to gett a 20 / 20 Marit Lage ;) the land is good with lots of things.
Does anyone knows if they had ever do a commander deck around Lazav? if so, can someone give me the link?
I love how they were talking about how shadows did not have eldrazi and then eldrich moon came out
Top mono color commanders in each color. :D
Doing an episode on draft would be awesome!
Top 10 most powerful/coolest/fun/whatever Commanders
If you are doing 5C EDH, play Tazri with Seagate Loremaster as the only ally.
Over 2.5 years later, and mirrorpool is cheaper than the price that they were saying to buy at before it goes up. :)
great vid, so helpful
cards you wouldnt think of!
top ten wraths! although that might be a little unfun b/c some colors don't have good wraths
I would be interested in a top 10 dual lands. it's probably pretty complicated math but I'm curious what are the actual numbers for when they come into play tapped or not (in a 2 color or 3 color deck with lets say 50% non-basic 50% basic lands). between fastlands, checklands and battle lands it's pretty hard to know which are best suited for edh. I like them all but putting them all in it's probably too much duals and too few basics.. any ides?!
Hi, love your Podcast! Thank you. Homeward Path vs. Memnarch?! A Memnarch will overtake your path i guess :) But i get the Point, thats all what Counts.
Why sensei s top depending on playgroup? Do some not allow it?
A couple years later mirror pool is $3.98 at my LGS might get it for my populate deck
Top 10 most fun commanders, top 10 best EDH sets
Huh, surprised not to see Hall of the Bandit Lord or Kessig Wolf Run. To be fair the color requirements to activate Kessig are high-ish, but it is a game ender in any deck capable of using it. And the Hall is pretty much an auto-include in any Voltron commander or non-red deck... Haste is pretty important if you like agro. Vault of the Archangel would've also been cool to see on here, even though the activation cost is specific, the utility is a two for one with immediate advantage on board. Also, I though you said something about trying to keep lands on the list for utility, I understand using Ancient Tomb, but why Temple of the False God? Sure it is a conditional Sol Ring, but a turn one Sol RIng is better than a turn five Temple... Early plays are hard to come by and predict following turns, you might not make it to turn five to use the Temple... Speaking of the False God, Karona would make a good commander for one of those "five-color" decks you were discussing earlier. You could run tribal, super buff them and swing for game.
The big problem with mirrorpool is that you must use colorless mana to activate each ability... If it required only generic mana it would be an auto-include in most decks.... I still bought two, they're so cheap right now, might play one in my eldrazi deck
A set based on superheros and supervillains could be interesting
I'd be disappointed that you didn't mention Volrath's Stronghold if it wasn't over the 25 dollar cutoff. I do wonder where things like Myriad Landscape or Thawing Glaciers rate for you guys.
Yeah, SoI draft is sweet. I won the one draft I've done with a G/B delirium deck.
Any chance of deck doctoring the new ezuri?
SO glad you said minamo. that plus a krenko = 1 dead player
Mirrorpool is only $1.41 according to scryfall, now would be the time to buy!
Dark Depths is still a favorite of mine
top ten basic lands?
I think there are 11 total counting wastes and snow lands, but I am not too sure.
everyone knows that Islands are the most OP card in MTG
Wastes are the best only cuz they can be ran in any deck flexibility is key
@@austinchuilli3652 lol
What about single target removal ?
Why was Vedalken Orary not printed as an invention?
Ancient Tomb, Sol Ring, Rakdos Signet, Spike Jester boom.
Hey my deck doesn't want the tower and it's mono blue.
Hey just wanted to point out mirror pool value is still low and didn’t go up like you guys thought
6:27 aren't you supposed to have 1 copy of each non basic land? what am I missing here?
do a top 10 of multicolor cards and break it down by the colors
Have you thought about an episode on Canadian highlander?
+Nicholas Flamel Similar to Tiny Leaders, we haven't played the format. It's not really our thing.
Also the shrine of the forsaken gods is called the shrine of the threeskaen gods
mirrorpool on amazon is $1.93 at the moment.
no love for Volrath's stronghold? that card is really good, better than most lands on these lists imo
What do you think k about lotus field???
top 10 commander's and top 10 commanders that you hate playing against.
Because of this I picked up two mirrorpool
Bro, you owe me for these 10,000 mirrorpool's I bought!!
top ten charms or modal spells?
yes please ^
Mirror pool as of 4.3.19 is $2.29 tcg mid. Swing and a miss!
Memnarch steals Homeword Path :D
top 10 commanders/archetypes you want to build in the future
top 10 sac outlets
You don't have Urborg on here? It's the best color fixing land that combos with so much. I am genuinely surprised by its nonexistent presence here
probably over 25 bucks when they made the list
Top ten reasons to play mono-red :)
before I start to listen my top ten are of the top of my head.
1: Reliquary Tower
2: Temple of the False God
3: Cabal Coffers
4: maze of ith
5: strip mine
6: wasteland
7: urborg Tomb of Yawgmoth
8: gaea's cradle
cause it's to pricey so I put it at 8
9: kor haven
10: bounce lands.
i think maze of ith is a little too oppressive but that is a playgroup to playgroup issue i suppose. the rest of your list is awesome though id have practically the same one
top 10 card in each gild wage and shruds
How about your Top 10 Tenners; i.e. any card that works the number 10 into its statistics (a 5/5 creature, spells with CMC 10, etc).
+Solemn Howler i can think of 4 spells that cost 10 mana off the top of my head. that list idea with the inclusion of 5/5s is kind of wide open don't you think? it covers too many cards that have no business being compared, like time stretch and uril. what would the point of that be?
+Ben Ben, the next time you post "Hey that's a cool idea!" or "I really liked blah blah blah" will be the first. It's cool if you throw shade at Jimmy and I, we put ourselves out there by making the show and we expect a certain amount of your particular brand of response. But don't start sniping at the other commenters man, that ain't cool. +Solemn Howler don't listen to this guy. He's just a negative human being. I think the idea has merit and sounds kind of fun.
+Josh Lee Kwai I have posted positive things, you apparently haven't found them yet. But now you're just pandering Josh. Let him defend his idea or flesh it out. As he explained it, and by my understanding, of course it has no merit. You can't have a top 10 list of things when there are only four or five in the game. It's just math. I wasn't insulting him, just pointing out that the way he described it wouldn't really work.
Volrath's Stronghold!
Speaking of "Gaea". How about Top 10 Mispronounced MTG Card names?
I’ve cast atraxa for 22 before
huh.. this episode was posted twice?
top 10 commons, top 10 ramp cards, top 10 draw spells
Minamo is over $20 :P way to go Josh
2018 and Mirrorpool is less than $2 on card kingdom. Ironic
10 wasteland 9 urborg 8 maze of ith 7 temple of false god 6 strip mine 5 cabal coffers 4 city of brass. 3 command tower 2 ancient tomb 1 cradle .
No love for ghost quarter? I find it's a perfect inclusion for when you want to run land destruction without the politics associated normally with it. It's a perfect catch-all card, one that I've almost always been happy to draw.
Strip Mine, which was mentioned, is just better.
It might have made sense to mention ghost quarter as the super budget option but WB stripmine is already pretty cheap.
Glacial Chasm + Eon Hub
Yup is love a sideboard show
What's your thoughts.
Top Ten Voltron Commanders, Top Ten Cards to include in Token strategies, Top Ten counter spells. Top Ten ramp cards. Top Ten draw cards.
GITROG THE FROG GODDDD
for homeward path they forgot Zedruu
there is no chance that mirrorpool drops under 5 to 10 $ xD hmmmm . but yea i love this land too . in our playgroup iam the only player who love and play it but i think its such apowerfull card
I don't know if i'm behind your visions of the way drafting works... In a normal draft the people to your left and right would begin to look at cards to cut to make your deck worse, Reduce to Ashes for example. Telegraphing your colors seems like it'd generally be a bad thing.
+QuietMyth 'Hate-drafting' generally makes your deck terrible. You might make the deck of the person next to you worse, but what happens in the end is both of you have bad decks, and lose to everyone else at the table who didn't waste picks denying their opponents. If you aren't in the same colors as the people around you, you will end up with a higher quality deck, so most good drafters will pick up on draft signals and try to not be in the same colors as the people nearest them.
+Erin Dixon-Gonzalez This is perfectly stated. Almost all high level drafters you hear from will say that hate drafting is generally bad practice unless there's no playable card for you in the pack.
+Erin Well said.
Huh. I suppose i'm super biased, I've only drafted outside of FNM once or twice at conventions, so I'm still surrounded by people who have decided their colors before they open their first pack... *shudder*
Top 10 wraths
I don't play green but... asuza, strip mine, crucible of worlds gets me hard
Does the command zone play on twitch?
+Assassin Drazonis We have only streamed on twitch a single time (for ep100) but it's something we may do more of in the future.
+Josh Lee Kwai have you guys thought about doing an SCG versus sort of 4-player gameplay series with your playgroup? The setup you had for episode 100 looks plenty good enough to do it.
