You kinda got the Marinids origin story wrong. The marinids are not from the desert they are from the fertile land which is nowadays located between Morocco and Algeria. Also they did not suffer from arab rebellions since most of the maghreb was still not arabized. Most of the rebellions in the history of north africa are just berber rebelling against the ruling dynasty because they are another group of berbers.

Are you still getting suggestions for paradox, Ludi? Cuz I have one: I think that loans shouldn't come from a secret infinite illuminatti stash of money like in EU4. I think loans should come from the investment pools of the estates, mainly burghers, nobles and clergy. Taking loans from an estate would also give them influence, and if you are in crippling debt to an estate it would lead to them having progressively more influence in your country, eventually passing laws that favor them and even doing a revolution if it gets out of hand. What do you think? I sounds cool in my head. Cheers!

The spanish definitely had a lot of colonies because they founded a lot of settlements, it doesn't matter if they ruled those areas the same way they ruled naples or sicily, the settlements would still be called colonies while the territories would not be called colonies anyway. Vanquished mongols, conquered whole Caucasus and created such a strong state that in 50 years Timur was unable to fully conquer Georgia even after 8 invasions (1386-1403). These wars spent many Timurid resources and years and saved other countries in the region from conquest. Alas these wars decimated the countryside and led to greatly weakened Georgia afterwards, leading to internal turmoils and eventual break-up.

The Kingdom of Hungary is a complicated thing.
    1. During this period, more than 80% of the total population was of Hungarian ethnicity, but this only changed because from 1526 the Turks destroyed much of the territory inhabited by Hungarians. So at the start of the game, there should have been a much lower proportion of people of other cultures and religions (almost all Hungarians were Roman Catholic at the time).
    2. Hungary had a brilliant ruler at the time, Charles Robert, who by this time had already fought off all the barons who opposed him and thus absolutely ruled the country. He opened new gold mines, making Hungary the largest gold producer in Europe. He introduced new laws and mediated in the conflict between the Czech and Polish kings at the Congress of Visegrád in 1335. He also founded the Order of St George. He also minted the first Hungarian gold coins. Heir to the throne, Louis the Great became a great general.
    3. Hungary was the most powerful country in the region, with increasingly advanced towns and cities and an army that included both Western knights and Eastern mounted archers. There were also German settlers in the eastern part of Transylvania, who built wonderful and prosperous cities, and the Szeklers, who were free men, none of them noble or peasant, in return for protecting the eastern borders and being available in times of war. It is also worth mentioning that Charles Robert was part of the house of Anjou which ment close ties to other countries.

Actually Caliphate mechanics are complicated. They were just like the Papal State but after Hulagu Han destroyed Baghdad, Mamluks offered his son a shelter in Cairo and recognized him as Caliph. Caliphate transformed itself from both head of state and head of religion to just head of religion, they became bureaucrats basically. Since Caliphate didn't have an army anymore, they became puppets to mighty Mamluks. The last change of Caliphate occured when Yavuz Sultan Selim conquered Egypt. He brought the last Caliph to Istanbul and took his titles to himself. With this change, Caliphate became once more merged with the head of state. So, in Mamluks' case, there was no second head of state but they can add some Caliphate mechanics to Mamluks. It would be fun

So Japan would have Shogan (Executive) and Emperor (Head of State), for example. In early stages of the Ottoman expansion (start date of the EU5), Ottomans declared Jihad against the Byzantines and the men around Anatolia came to join the holy war. Ottomans quickly expanded thanks to them.
And there is a greater Jihad which can only declared by the Caliph himself. Every Sunni nation obliged to join. There can be some adjustments like if Caliph have few legitimacy you can decline or if you have bad relations with Caliph you can also decline the call.

I hope that there is a law system similar to Vic 3, not sure how it could be implemented but whenever it mentioned "depends on your laws," I get the idea that some of these laws may be a Segway into Vic 3.
An example being; Having serfdom be a law of your realm, and having to remove it in order for pops to migrate to cities.
They mention laws often in these diaries but do not mention how they work, I'm excited to see what's in store for them. I do hope there will be a Vic style system which allows a nation to develop its economy, society, and power structure.

On the Indian part, Kalinga kingdom will be very interesting nation to play, it was one of the oldest ancient Janapada since late Vedic period, domination of Mauryan dynasty, and this time 1337 still exist
Japan will be very interesting this time, for few years, the Imperial family retained their status as absolute rulers, trying to go back to old Heian tradition, which made Samurais really angry, then the rise of Ashikaga with the best Shogun of the time
On Persia part, imo Yazd will be interesting to play, they were under Muzaffarid dynasty and conquered some lands and form Persia, until they get conquered by Timurids, will try playing that to prevent Timur from taking over Persia
On Mexico, aside from Aztec rise to power, they should make Tlaxcala a unique nation with flavor, they were actually a republic, they vote rulers through merit, and successfully repel the Aztec assaults many times and allied with the Spanish

Relatively soon after the start, White Horde had a massive succession crisis resulting with Khan becoming a puppet of nobles and Blue Horde no longer obeying the Sarai. This lasted until Blue Horde actually took over the White Horde.

One thing I was trying to do in a mod I was tinkering on was having the kalmar union be a single province nation. But it would have to balance the interest of the kingdoms under it, or else they might rebel.
I wonder if these nations that are not directly tied to land, or how the phrasing was might affect how unions may play out. I love the idea of playing as the union rather than the nation. Would be akin to player multiple nations I guess :)

Not every Mamluk was of Turkic descent though. Namely, Egypt employed a lot of kidnapped Georgians and Circassians and they, for example, were the ones to lead the second and last Mamluk dynasty since 14c - Burjis or Burgites, staying in control up till 19c., even after Ottomans' expansion. The first dynasty was Turkic though, just not exclusively.
Same thing with the Indian and Persian Mamluks (or rather Ghulams) - the name signified a status, not an ethnicity. Lots of Caucasians over there as well.
