Well, if I can't afford the basic necessities and bills why would I add another mouth to feed. Even if I was well off I STILL wouldn't have children.
If that makes me selfish idgaf

Poorer societies actually have a use for children. They use them in a family business or for labor in the house or farm or w.e. Children are a luxury in richer countries.

I want to have a family, but it's almost as if the hospital bill for having a child while financially responsible is like subsidizing other people's medical bills or something.

I don't know how things are in western part of the world ,but generally in other parts of the world, every parent wants that his/her child live a better life than them.Having children and raising them is a huge investment and take many sacrifices for which many people are not ready. Also the rising cost of living is another factor that people are not having as many children now than they were having in olden days.If you want people to have kids ,make it so that people can raise their children without worrying about money.
Most importantly the people who harp about declining birthday rates are just whining and crying instead of providing solutions that make having childrens a worthwhile prospect.

The idea of getting married at 26 seems insane coming from a country where the age of first marriage has increased to 33 recently. Let alone having as many kids as possible before you've even figured out who you are yourself.

@@euroschmauThe world is not over. We are on the verge of creating renewable societys - something unthinkable just 100 years ago. We live in a more peaceful time than before (yes, despite Ukraine and Gaza, the earlier wars were far more deadly). Our kids will grow up in a better future than us. The world is always improving, and the “good old days” do not exist.

    • @serenesista

Amen. I’m happy why would I ruin that by changing it. My grandmother had 14 kids. She was typical mindset for her time. I heard no awful stories from any of her kids. No abuse. But each one of them abandoned her and used her to steal Canadian gov support money from her. I remember visiting her at one of her daughter’s home and she was still in her diaper covered in cockroaches. Fast forward a decade after that cockroach scene and I hear she died alone at the hospital. So having kids (I think she was good enough parent) doesn’t guarantee any end of life support from them. You’re better off saving that money you would have spent on raising kids and hire people to care for you.

Play a game of Monopoly and every 10 turns, describe how the economy of the entire board looks. Then have each player describe their financial situations and feelings about portions of the board.
Around the time players start building their first monopolies, add 1 or 2 new players with the same amount of money as the starting players had and question them every 10 turns. Especially when it comes to buying properties.
When the 1st player declares bankruptcy, you have entered "end game". Describe the map at that point.
Monopoly is just hyperbole for reality in "rich" countries. Btw, in monopoly, all the players are wealthy elites, not average Joes.

If I'm lucky, I will get to live in the same home as my children until they are old enough to leave home. I won't have to financially maintain two homes while scheduling time... to see them. Hopefully, my children won't have to live with a strange man barely vetted by their mother that goes on to hurt them in terrible ways.
It sounds like a really awesome experience to be not much more than a financial yolk sack.

South Korea is LITERALLY 6th in the world of the most educated women. The only ones ahead are luxembourg, Japan, Israel, Russia and Canada. The ONLY one of those countries with a positive birth rate is Israel which is likely only positive because of how the Israeli state strongly encourages marriage and the raising of children.

It isn't. According to UN projections, which get increasingly accurate over time thanks to advances in technology and techniques, world population is set to rise to 10 billion by 2050. This represents a 25% increase on the current 8 billion in only 25 years. All this nonsense about population decline is insane. You should be talking about the huge migrations of population that are in prospect and how developed countries will deal will massive increases in the populations of aliens within their borders.
