- Hey guys! I am BACK with another video. I have seen a lot of questions about the PROPER way to upgrade to your new GPU! Rather than just installing your new GPU, installing the drivers, and hoping for the best; I put together a guide on the steps needed to ensure that your new GPU is running at it's peak performance. We will be discussing removing old drivers with the program Display Driver Uninstall by Wagnardsoft, physically installing your new graphics card, installing your new graphics card drivers, and a few minor adjustments within NVIDIA Control Panel / AMD Radeon software. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns down below!

This is the first tutorial I've found that was 100% clear and never made me ask "but what about the....?"
Can't thank you enough for this.
Really appreciate the comment and praise my friend. Thanks for watching
Cant stress how much of a huge help you were to me. I'm a complete noob when it comes to computer hardware but I followed your steps and everything worked as shown. Thank you!
That is awesome to hear!! I appreciate your comment and glad that everything worked out for you. 😎👏
Literally watched this the entire time I was installing my card.. 100/10 awesome info
Thank you! So happy to hear!!! That’s awesome. 👌🏻🤘🏻
Same here thanks
same here first time changing gpu
also everything is working perfectly!
Great to hear! Enjoy your new graphics card
I genuinely appreciate your videos and detailed explanation. This step by step process was by far the best I’ve seen. Definitely subscribed immediately after watching this. Thank you Sir!
Thank you so much for the kind words, the sub, and tuning into my stream!! ❤️
as a first time changing my GPU it was confusing and I thought I would need to go to a repair shop to do it but thanks to you it seems very easy its about your way of explaining simple and clear keep up the good work!
First time watcher and can I just say you got a subscriber for life! This literally made the process of my first upgrade on my PC so easy and educational. Thank you so much for explaining it so well and making it dummy friendly!!!
Hey Faraz! Thank you so much for your comment and I appreciate you subbing to my channel! I am glad my explanation helped you get your new GPU installed.
I'm about to upgrade my build for the first time and I'm super nervous. Probably almost as nervous as when I built it. This will be my reference video FOR SURE.
Please let me know if you have any questions! It’s an easy process, you got this!
@@DanKamYouKnow Thanks. Just figuring out what I can and can't fit into this Phantek 300A. Will be upgrading from a hand me down 1650. Will definitely contact if I have any questions!
Best guide I've found about using DDU with the correct settings. I appreciate the methodical approach you took with walking us through every step. Thanks!
Thank you so much, really appreciate the kind words.
After watching you for so long only on CZcams shorts, I'm so happy when I actually found you when I actually need something. Thank you so much, you've got a subscriber.
What a fantastic follow-along tutorial! With your excellent help, there was never a moment of doubt that what I was doing was incorrect. Thank you!
It is so nice to have someone who realises that we're not all computer wizards and that we need a detailed step by step guide. This was brilliant and enabled me to upgrade my graphics card flawlessly (though the DDU website had changed slightly which caused some confusion). Anyway, I'm up and running now and noticing a huge difference. Thanks.
no seriously, for the last 4 years since i had this pc i didnt realize i was in my default 60hz settings when i have 144hz and 165hz monitors... lmfao. i was contemplating buying a new gpu bc i was lowkey starting to lag in games and this just helped in other ways 😂
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I just installed my new rtx 3060 from a gtx 1660 and everything went perfectly! I contacted the company that built my gaming PC and they just told me to swap them out. Thank you for being so much more detailed so I don't run into potential issues
That’s great to hear! Thank you so much for your comment and kind words. Enjoy your new GPU! 😎👌🏻
Did you do this with the old gpu installed or you had your new gpu plugged in while erasing everything ??
This video is honestly is the best. Explains what you need to know, as you need to know it. Installed two graphics cards using this video, will come back in a few years for the next card! Thank you so much
Outstanding instruction! I have built four of my last tower computers, but this is the first comprehensive tutorial I have seen regarding the GPU. Thank you for a very detailed, easy to follow instruction process from start to finish. From 2012 to 2024 and still relevant. New sub here.
PC kratos here came in clutch and basically carried the whole operation, done and everything is working perfectly, thanks bro , great stuff

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I was worried because my 2nd monitor wasn’t showing up and my GPU fans weren’t spinning. But I just kept following the directions, and after I installed the drivers everything was working perfectly! This is the best video I’ve found on CZcams for this!
You’re welcome and thank you for such high praise! I really appreciate your comment and very happy that it helped you out.
Followed along the whole uninstall/new install, and everything worked perfect. Each step explained well, easy to grasp. Thank you!

@@DanKamYouKnowi’m thinking about upgrading my gpu from 1660 super to something a lot bigger and more powerful. would i have to get a new cpu. or can i just install it. btw the pc was a prevuilt
You can keep your current CPU. Depending on how old the CPU is, what GPU you get, and what resolution you play at, you may experience at bottleneck.
just wanna say your tutorial was one of the best ive seen , gave me complete confidence in installing my 3080
Thank you so much Nate! Congrats on the new 3080 👌🏻

What’s your setup like what fans did you use and where did you put them
@@emma6648 6 fans in total, i kept the front led fan for my 30 l and replaced everything else. I used a 20 mm fan for the top mount, two bottom fans a 92 mm and 20mm, for my rear fan i got a 92mm, and for my cpu fan i have an 80mm.
@@arts7363 you mean 120mm? Right, and where at the bottom? Just set them there under the GPU?
@@emma6648 my bad, 120 mm yes, i added a 120 mm at the bottom and a 92 mm, i set the 120 mm at the bottom of the case and the 92 mm below the gpu so on top of the power supply, its been running great, would you want to see how it looks?
Fantastic video, thanks. Loads of videos showing how to slot a GPU in, which isn't too difficult. However, as someone who knows SFA about PCs, yours tells all you need to know. Would never have known I had to use a DDU to properly remove old drivers and the tweaks to display settings, etc. Confident I can do this myself for the first time after seeing your vid. Thanks again, DanKam!
Happy to hear!!! Thank you for your comment my friend. 😎🤝😎
Thank you very much, sir! I followed the steps you mentioned, even writing them on paper, and my PC is working pretty well! I'm happy to be following these good practices. Much appreciated! Thank you for what you do. :)

Thanks so much for taking the time to make such a detailed video! My son and I were able to successfully install a new graphics card with your help!
You’re welcome! That’s great to hear
You are a legend man! I have been so stressed out for the past couple of weeks after upgrading my 1060 to a 3070ti. Everything was working fine in the beginning, but just got worse and worse every day. I was going over a million different possibilities as to why this is happening.... except for this, because I had no clue about it in the first place.
I started getting BSOD's while playing games, my GPU usage was insanely high for doing such menial tasks like web browsing or running Wallpaper Engine, spiking all over the place like crazy, and the temps were getting higher. I had NO IDEA that doing a clean install like this was even a thing, and your tutorial was very easy to follow. I just finished and my GPU usage is completely fixed. Feels good man. Cant thank you enough!
It’s crazy the kind of issues that can occur with bad drivers! It can cause so many programs. I love DDU because you can run it any time you want, it’s a great diagnostic tool, and in most cases, will resolve issues you may be having!
Thank you for the comment and I’m super happy that your system is running right again. 🤝🤝🤝
I had some major instability after installing the new 3080. Thank you for the detailed and deliberate instructions. Subscribed.
Thanks for the sub and comment! Glad to hear it’s all resolved now 👍🏻
Great video and extremely helfpul!! I'm not sure if this was mentioned in the comments already, but you might want to let people know that setting their power management mode to "prefer maximum performance" in the NVIDIA control panel may force their GPU (especially 3000 series cards) to run at high clock speeds at all times (even when idle) and increase power draw. This could make idle temps much higher than normal or necessary, especially if they don't get good airflow in their case. Not necessarily a problem if you don't mind running fans at high speeds (i.e. LOUD) all the time, but you could let people know that if their idle GPU temps are really high then switching back to the "normal" power management mode will remedy the issue. If they need max performance they can set it to run with specific games / programs.
I learned all of this the hard way haha.
That is good to know and my EVGA card did not have these results when switching to maximum performance. Thank you!!
Which card did u experience this with 🤔
@@electrix5092 Gigabyte 3080 Gaming OC 12gb
@@j_saint6534 I just purchased an Asus TUF 3080 12gb OC I hope the same doesn't happen
@@electrix5092 It's no big deal if it does honestly. There's no need to run it at max performance when you're not gaming anyway, and the performance differences with max performance and normal mode aren't all that significant. If you NEED to run at max performance power management mode while gaming just switch it on before you boot the game up.
Thank you so much for this well prepared and excellently delivered video. Good job. I'm updating the video card and drivers , and this was a good reminder video. By the way as far as using DDU goes and not the windows remove program - Nvidia recommends against using the windows remove program in their release notes for the drivers. But most people don't read those.
Thank you so much! Really appreciate your comment Kathy. I never even knew NVIDIA warned against using Windows Add/Remove programs either! I have had driver issues before so always relied on DDU for new GPU’s and issues that I think may be related to GPU drivers 😎👌🏻
I’m not good with PCs and used this tutorial to install a new GPU for the first time. Worked without any problems, thanks so much 🙏🏼
Just used this advice to install my first GPU ever! So pumped and excited it worked without blowing up my PC! Great video my dude!
Thank you!!!
watched your vid just now because i'm going to upgrade my 1070ti to 3060ti! hopefully all goes well, thanks for being so direct and clear, none of that mumbo jumbo that other youtubers stuff their tutorials with
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
How it got? I got the same 1070 and looking to upgrade
Switching from a 1050ti to a 3060 ti, so BIG change. Thanks for this video. I especially appreciated the part at 12:30. Wouldn't have thought of that at all. My card only has one eight-pin connector, but I imagine that would have caused issues if I had messed that part up.
You’re welcome!! Thanks for the comment! Yeah, some GPU’s require multiple 8 pin connectors and it has to be plugged in right or the card won’t function properly. I honestly should of made that it’s own part in the video but at least it’s there. Congrats on the upgrade to a 3060Ti, it’s an awesome card!
Still trying to figure out why my monitor is showing up static whenever I power on my computer with the new GPU and I'm only using one 8pin connector.
Have you tried a different monitor cable? Or a different port on the GPU? You may want to try your old GPU to eliminate the possibility that it may be a bad GPU =\
@@DanKamYouKnow
As soon as you said that, I switched over to the HDMI cable and what do you know, I'm able to get picture on my monitor again lmao.
Thanks so much for the video by the way!
Interesting! So one of the ports on your GPU might have a slightly loose connection, but at least another one is working fine! You’re welcome and thanks for watching.
Just starting the video. Going up to Best Buy to pick up a new card here soon so I came here to watch this. Will probably comment after and say how it goes. But I find it funny I’ve been watching you on tiktok forever now and then your the first video I find😭😂 love the content
Best walkthrough I have seen so far. Thanks so much for this man!
Thank you so much David! Appreciate the kind words.
Hey Dan, today I upgraded from a 1060 3G to a 3060Ti, and I’ve been loving it so far (I also upgraded from 16 to 32 GB RAM). Safe to say that watching this video helped a lot, it made me more familiar with DDU and made me more confident in the physical aspect of replacing a card. It was honestly quite easy to understand and figure out, and that’s hugely thanks to you. Your video was very clear and easy to follow, so great job and keep it up! Definitely earned a sub ;)
That’s awesome to hear and thank you so much for the comment and sub! Very much appreciated!
@@DanKamYouKnow You’re very welcome! One question though, if you don’t mind. I’ve gamed a couple of hours today and the performance was great, no issues. Then later in the day I was installing a game on Steam, listening to Spotify and using Chrome with multiple tabs open. Out of nowhere my PC crashed with this very loud buzzing sound for about a second, and after that it rebooted. After that I tried gaming again (The Division 2) and no issues once again. Maybe this is a huge coincidence out of nowhere but in the last 5 years I’ve never had this happen before (maybe once at most) so now I’m very paranoid lmao. Any idea what the issue could be? Like I said I have a 3060Ti with 32GB RAM, and an i7-6700K CPU. I know the latter is quite outdated, but I’d need to replace my motherboard as well to get a new CPU (and probably also my 600W PSU and CPU cooler), which I can’t really afford right now. Anyway, any idea what the issue could’ve been? So far it hasn’t happened a second time but I’m still a bit worried, I can’t lie. I tried to find some answers online but it didn’t really help.
May be a good idea to check event viewer. Doesn’t seem like the PC was under load when it crashed so I think Windows just crashed on its own for some reason. If keep an eye on it and see if it happens again
@@DanKamYouKnow Yeah I ran a Windows Memory Diagnostics test - since that’s what I found as a recommendation online - and then checked the logs, but truth be told I’m not an expert at understanding these things lol. There seems to be only one thing in the “Critical” category though, and that is Kernel-Power 41 (63). Online it says it basically means that Windows shut down incorrectly, and it recorded this in 5 instances, with 4 being very recent ones:
2/02/2023 (today around 1AM)
1/02/2023
23/12/2023
3/12/2023
9/08/2021
I don’t exactly remember what happened on 3/12, but it’s probably me accidentally turning off the electricity in my room, I remember doing that quite recently. On 23/12 I had this really strange monitor issue that I have solved now, so no problem there. On 1/02 it’s most-likely the issue I described in my previous comment, and 2/02 is probably referring to when I reinstalled Minecraft Bedrock and strange things started to happen. I was playing online with my cousin who’s on console, but the game was running slow and chunky all of a sudden. Eventually I found out that the in-game FPS limiter is what caused it (no wonder the “Experimental” warning is there), so once I put it to unlimited, things went back to normal. But before I found that out I decided to reinstall the game, and for some reason the screen started flickering a lot (this also happened beforehand a few times after simply Alt-Tabbing). But this time, the screen fully turned black as well and when I did a mouse click to see if it would go away, the system rebooted all of a sudden, so I guess this is what it’s referring to. I’ll keep an eye on it though and see if further weird crashes like these happen. If not then it’s probably all a big coincidence. Thank you for the help!
Let me know what you find out. I have seen issues before where the Kernal 41 code could be a bad power supply as well. Keep monitoring it and see what happens 👍🏻

That’s awesome to hear, appreciate your comment! Nothing like upgrading your PC yourself 💪🏻
@@DanKamYouKnow well, when i first thought of upgrading and or build for the first time, i had no idea all things one must consider and be mindful of, like static electricity shock that may fry your circuits and stuff like that, and being new at this, i dont have the popper tools like those "anti static bracelets/leashes" and i was sure that, with my luck, i was going to ruin my whole pc! XD or that at the least i would run in to some issues, but the experience so far with this and other upgrades i have done with that an other computers i own, has been pain free, well,, thanks to tutorials like your's and others =)
Honestly, building PC’s is pretty much, Adult Legos 😄

You’re welcome and thank you for the kind words!!!
I thought you only made funny videos but apparently you also make super clear guides that i needed for my new gpu thanks man
Ahhh man I cannot express how easy your video was. Such a great help! Built my first pc a while ago and decided to go for the upgrade, went from RADEON to GeForce 1660. So far everything appears to have worked as I booted the pc with old GPU in and it was still in bad graphics mode with the audio symbol disabled so I know the drivers aren't installed for it. But I have the no signal screen on my 1660...I've been pulling my hair out for ages wondering why as your steps were so easy to follow...only to overlook the same thing you keep saying to try ALL ports....there's me only thinking it's the HDMI port (which on the 1660 there's only one )...I didn't even think to try the 3 display ports...so have to wait for tommorow to see if it's truly worked! No reason to suspect it hasn't 😅 ...but I do have a question based on that....will I have better performance running a display cable rather than a.HDMI cable ?
Thanks mate!
Thank you so much for the comment and glad I can help! Some monitors have different benefits for using DisplayPort over HDMI. My monitor for instance, will only do 120hz with an HDMI cable, while it will do 144hz with DisplayPort cables. Hope that helps.
Hey guys! Thank you so much for watching my video! Just to clarify, the 3070Ti in the machine IS my NEW GPU, in which I spent MONTHS trying to get and had to buy with a bundle. In the video, I don't replace it but I just pretend I do for tutorial purposes.
In this video, I show you how to uninstall your old drivers using DDU / Install your new GPU / Install the latest drivers for your new GPU / and a few minor settings adjustments. The video is pretty long so I made chapters if you want to fast forward through certain sections. Doing it this way will ensure that your new GPU is affected by any old drivers from your last GPU! DDU can also be used as a diagnostic step if you are experiencing issues with your GPU. I hope this video is helpful for you. If you have any questions or concerns, please comment down below.
Thanks for all your support and have a great day!
i have a AMD gpu and i am wanting to test out a lower-tier nividia GPU I plan to go back to the AMD GPU do i neeed to remove the AMD drivers??????
I have an i5 for my cpu. What do I unselect in the specific options page
You can just leave the normal options selected. Just select the *prevent windows from installing drivers* one.
Can you do this whole your new gpu is installed or you do it in your old one and plug it the new one wants it resets it ?
You can do it either way. You can run DDU at any time
Honestly the best tutorial I've ever seen for anything! 1000/10 man!
Thank you!!!!!
I was a bit lost when going from my GTX 1080 to RTX 3060. PC wouldn't boot and just beeped at me. After following you video steps I am happy to say it is now running great. Thank you so much for an easy to follow, step by step fix. Am now subscribed to your channel.
Thanks for your comment. I’m happy it was able to guide you through the whole process and fixed your issue! Really appreciate the subscription 🤝
Thanks for this video Dan! I recall that Jayztwocents had a similar video not terribly long ago but I'm glad that you made this video and made specific mention of unselecting all AMD options in DDU for those of us who have an AMD CPU and an Nvidia GPU on our systems. I know the last time I swapped out a GPU on a machine, it was in 2017 when I changed from a GTX 760 to a GTX 1060. At the time, I don't think DDU existed so I simply uninstalled the old drivers and shut down the computer before installing the GTX 1060 and then I installed the new drivers. I ran it for a couple of days to make sure the new card was stable before I formatted my hard drive and re-installed the OS. But it is a good idea these days to use DDU in safe mode as you have to erase all traces of the old GPU from the operating system. Personally, I don't use GeForce Experience, but that's personal preference LOL. Awesome that you make mention also of changing the refresh rate for your monitor and some of the Nvidia options.
Appreciate it Mark! DDU is such a great tool. I had issues with an AMD driver with my RX5700, and a DDU fixed it completely. I think if someone is putting spending all this money on a new GPU, taking 5 mins to run DDU is totally worth it. Especially if you’re going from AMD to Nvidia or vice versa.
I have a concern, I’ve never installed a GPU. I currently am going from AMD RX 580 to GeForce 1060 and I have an i5 intel cpu. Do I need to uncheck the AMD specific options?
You do not need to uncheck them 👍🏻
Got my RTX 2060 installed in my 7-year-old on-its-way-out rig without any trouble! Great tip about cleaning off those old drivers before adding new ones. Works like a breeze.
I really shouldn’t be running such a beefy card in this old of a system but I wanted to see how it could handle it. Does a better job than I expected and I’m not even overclocking the CPU. This machine has aged quite gracefully.
Awesome! 2060 is still an awesome card. People get so caught up with the newest line and immediately discredit older GPU’s that are still very relevant. Glad to hear the 2060 worked in your older system!
Absolutely perfect. I’m up and running and about to change the resolution right now. You’re amazing man.
Thank you so much for this awesome video it made the process so much easier being able to follow along I was really nervous swapping out the gpu the right way
His beard in the intro: The year is 2020 and I still don’t have a 30 series card…
His beard after the intro: It’s been 84 years…
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Wondering if someone would noticed my dyed beard. That 5 month search for my GPU totally greyed me out 😫
😂😂
PLEASE READ: UPDATE - 5/15/2023: It appears that uninstalling GPU drivers on newer AMD models may cause a no video output condition, where the GPU is on but your monitor is not getting any signal. Here is what you might have to do:
- Disable IGPU multi-monitor in your BIOS ( you MAY have to reinstall your old GPU first to access the BIOS )
- Runn DDU again and see if you receive signal.
( This was tested by a commenter, thank you @Kenco. )
NOTE: Setting your power management mode to "Prefer Maximum Performance" in the NVIDIA control panel may force the GPU (especially 3000 series cards) to run at high clock speeds at all times (even when idle) and increase power draw. This could make idle temps much higher than normal or necessary, especially if you don't have good airflow in your case. Not necessarily a problem if you don't mind running fans at high speeds (i.e. LOUD) all the time. So if your idle GPU temps are really high, then switching back to the "normal" power management mode will remedy the issue. If they need max performance they can set it to run with specific games / programs.

great wish i would’ve seen this first :/
Thanks a bunch man. Just replaced my old GPU with a 70 series FE today with the help of your tutorial. Definitely giving it a like!
Thanks! Congrats on the new GPU 🤝
On my DDU I am not seeing the official download here prompt
same what did you do
You’re a handsome looking critter bro thanks for the helpful tutorial
❤️❤️❤️
Such a detailed and easy to follow tutorial. Thanks for the help man!
Thank you!!!! Appreciate your comment 🤝
Love you brother just upgraded to the 3080 from a 970 and was scared to do it thanks to this my pcs running better than ever ❤
Amazing video! Only thing that got me confused was when using DDU you mentioned "if you have a amd cpu (or at least what i heard) so if im transitioning a AMD to an nvidia do i check off those boxes? Or diff ones. Thanks for the help!
@@DanKamYouKnow I'm so confused - this is totally unclear in the video and is still unclear from your comment. I have an AMD build (AMD CPU and AMD GPU) and will be transitioning to an NVIDIA graphics card (AMD CPU and NVidia GPU). So what options are you saying to select and not select?
Leave the AMD options in there unchecked, just like I have in the video. It will still delete your GPU drivers.
@@DanKamYouKnow I have an Intel CPU. Does that mean I uncheck the Intel option, and leave the AMD stuff checked?
No, you can leave the Intel items checked
my moniter won’t turn on
Try a different port on the GPU or a different cable first.
Try turning on the monitor
Had the same issue for a second make Shute your gpu is plugged all the way in
Thank you for your video! I was a little nervous performing my first upgrade but everything is running perfectly! Thanks again!

👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
I’m also looking to upgrade from a GT 1030. How much of a difference in Gaming Graphics and fps did you notice after your swap? (assuming you’re a gamer)
Watched and did everything you said. It all works and looks good! Much appreciated good sir.
Happy it helped!!
Thank you for the excellent, easy to follow video. I watched it to do a clean install on a new (used) NVidia P2000 in my Dell workstation. Worked like a charm!

Sir, thank you so much for this tutorial. I think you might have the best tutorial on the entire site because those other dudes just make it seem like you just take it out and put the new one in.
Great Tutorial. Thank you for the informative step by step guide. Normally I send my PC in to shops to for hardware installation because I'm so nervous I'm going to screw something up and then I'm left up shit's creek. Following everything my card and PC are working great. Thank you again!
Thanks for the comment Logan! I’m glad that my tutorial gave you the confidence to ‘get er done’. 👌🏻👍🏻🤝
