I’m french, and I can tell you, from what you’ve said and how you’ve pronounced it, your french is VERY GOOD. 😊
BROOOO what are you ON about, your French level is fluid af from what you’ve shown us!! En vrai je connais bcp d’étrangers ici à Paris qui sont là depuis 1, 2 même 3 ans qui ont toujours tellement du mal à formuler une seule phrase en moins de 30 sec, du coup jsp si tu te mets juste trop de pression sur toi-même mais je dirais au moins que tu parles suffisamment pour tenir une conversation et ça c’est déjà très fort, malgré la difficulté que tu éprouves pour faire sortir les mots. Même si t’as pas pu améliorer ton niveau comme tu l’aurais voulu, t’as quand même réussi à garder le niveau que tu as actuellement, ce qui n’est pas rien. Anyway félicitations pour ton stage et bienvenue à Paris ! 🕺🍍
mais je suis vraiment coincée à ce niveau là depuis 1 an, jsp quoi faire pour devenir plus fluide 😭 I mean it's fine considering that just 3 years ago I knew only bonjour and didn't even know merci, but it sucks being an outsider never able to participate in conversations bc well.. by the time I've made my sentence in my head, the group has left 🙃
Have you looked into participating in a French language cafe consistently even for just like one hour a week? It doesn’t feel like studying but you are actually given the time and space to practice getting your words out and reinforcing the recall in your brain (plus you get to make friends)! I used to host one for English where I live at the Cité Internationale Universitaire in Paris. It was wicked seeing people actually improve their speaking by recalling words faster and speaking more fluidly.
I think once you reach this sort of intermediate plateau, it’s super hard to get out of and just requires a period of time where you just go hundies on your recall ability. Otherwise a personal language partner through like italki or something is probably the best option if you need 100% focus, proper feedback and someone willing to improve your progress over time with you. I swear that once you give your french some concentrated, persistent TLC through dedicated speaking practice then you will be sliding into group convos ez. Don’t even need to pick up a book or join a class, just an environment where people will be patient while you practice 💫
I've been speaking French for 35 years (I'm Dutchspeaking from Belgium) and I can be part of high-level business meetings, etc. but I would never say my French is "fluid" as I still make mistakes with all those crazy French language rules :p
@@IdentitySelection wow you are very good at it, watch more movies in french, read french books, etc...you'll improve even more. Maybe an online french speaking group. French people speak fast, and are not patient. But if you tell them you want to only speak french they'll respect that and will be patient for you

I am glad you are vlogging your life, I know it might be hard to see but youve actually changed my life. I wasn't sure where to go or what to study but you've helped me find a path. I have traveled a lot and so I was a "late start student" but you've shown me that I can go to france too, that I don't need to be 21 to do it, and I'm really grateful for that. Anyways, thanks for your videos, they're so fun to watch :)
Wow thank you so much for sharing Naomi!! I moved between countries where the years in school don't work the same way and also took a long break during undergrad to travel around so I'm kinda "behind", but I love my experiences and memories :) Never too late to go to school, you'll just be wiser and more efficient :)

You said, You put so much effort on learning French. You went to American expensive university and did 1 year French course. You live in France and your boyfriend is French. Everyday you're dealing with French. I believe that You could be a best French teacher for us. I mean You can teach us French through your CZcams channel. As your English is super good i believe it will help so many international students as well as french learners. Your efforts on learning French will be worth it. Because oneday You will be in the list of R.I.P. But your helpful french learning videos will keep you alive forever.

We did this weekend in Paris and it was great having everything open and it so lively!! Nice change from 10 months in lockdown in Strasbourg 😂

I just watched this video because I was thinking about going to Toulouse, and realized that we have very similar lives! I'm also American, and also just finished the first year of my masters, but in Paris. It was all on zoom... and was horrible. Anyways, I'm still in Paris in case you need a friend here :)
So for the Degree part, when you note that doing the bare minimum is needed, it's at the same time true.. and not. For jobs, yeah they don't give a shit, the idea is that your formation provide you what you need in a specific sector of activity, and if you passed, you get the bare minimum to work in that sector, and then can form yourself in the job. In France, your whole life you accumulate credit of formation, that you can spend to unlock pro formation for more specific element or jobs.
But the note count if you want to apply for specific school. Like if after your master degree you want to apply for a doctorate, there's a limited number of places, and then your dossier, including your grades, ll be used.
Basicly, the idea is that a test don't reflect your capabilities. Because you can be good the whole year, be sick the day you pass test and fail, it's not a reflection of what you did or your maximum. Test are just here to check you followed so far =)

i love your videos! i'm also an american who is doing a grad degree abroad (tho in scotland, not france!) and moving to a new country/figuring out a new school and grading system/making connections is insane in regular times let alone during a pandemic so congrats on finishing your first year!!!

We share the same background re where we were born, grew up, going for master's, AND we're basically the same age/older master's students. I feel like I found my soul sister! I also started learning French only like 2 years ago but pheweee I am nowhere near your level! Do you think you could also maybe make a video on finding apartments in France? It seems like you had a place before moving to France (literally just binged your videos) and I was wondering how you did that, I'm like so confused because I need to show some sort of housing for the visa but I'm also not down to get scammed by signing a lease abroad?

Starting my year aboard at UT2J in Toulouse after the summer, do you have any advice about the city etc? Love your videos and good luck with your internship! Lots of love from Scotland
Toulouse is quite small so you'll get to know it very well in just a few months. Take advantage of the fact that there are mountains, oceans, and cute villages very close by :)
As @MyDear20s wrote, the region around Toulouse is very beautiful (I think SW France is underrated) but you need a car to go to most of the places in the countryside (train can also be a good option for some of them). By the way I advise you to visit Carcassonne. I also love the city itself especially the centre but for the daily life it has nothing special to notice. The mass transit system works quite well (there is a cable car being built, my school is just under the cables, I think it is going to open by September, unfortunately I am likely to have gone at that time, I don't know where in France yet).
I'm moving to work there from Ireland in September!
Oh I also have a question for you, besides computer science can you think of any degrees that would be useful to be studying right now in preparation for moving to France? I have a huge interest in tech I am just worried that I can't do the mathematical part of computer science. But at the same time, I want to have a degree that the French find useful (I am doing undergraduate rn and wondering what I should study so I can prepare to take the same one as a graduate). I don't want to be jobless lol I just don't know if I can do math heavy degrees.
I would say IT and business related jobs are the most in demand just like anywhere else ! You could maybe look into digital marketing, UI/UX design, graphical design, project management, product management... just a few off the top of my head:)
What about getting jobs there after studying from french uni ?
