I have never wanted to talk about the news or politics because of how shut out most people become. They either don't want to talk about it or they say it's my way or the highway for their personal views, but Philip DeFranco comes at it in a way that's real with his view and wants other views and to talk to people! I am a criminal justice major in college and you have honestly made me consider changing majors at times because you show me that even though I have the unpopular opinion, and sometimes you do, that you don't back down or change. I'll be behind you brother and I know the rest of the nation will as well!

Yeah that is the main issue with discussing political topics. People are so entrenched in their beliefs that they are not only unwilling to even listen to a differing point of view, they want that differing point of view shut down so that it doesn't possibly influence anyone else listening. At the slightest sign of disagreement every political conversation turns into vulgar name calling, comparing people to nazis, declaring everyone idiots that don't agree with them, and ridiculous straw man arguments.
The most disingenuous form of expression is shouting someone else down, but sadly that is pretty much the entirety of political discourse in this country right now. People can't have rational civilized conversations about issues using facts to form the basis of their arguments.
If people could just talk about politics and a lot more stuff without being so caught up in their personal bubble than I believe we could get a lot more done

Phil, I've been watching your videos religiously on CZcams and Facebook since roughly 2009 (or whenever it was you started vloggity I think), and no matter what topic you're talking about I've always admired your openness to other opinions and willingness to change your own. From dumb Florida stories to serious foreign policy and civil debates, LTA, SourceFed, all your projects are underscored by that discourse mindset. As the news becomes both increasingly mad on the one hand and unreliable on the other it is becoming necessary to facilitate the exchange of information and opinions peacefully as never before. I don't think you provide facts in spite of sharing your opinion, but because of it: openly sharing and justifying an opinion requires facts to be given; an honest openness to discussion means no opposition to transparency. You're a reasonable bloke, and I, among millions of others, can attest to that after years of watching. I was just telling someone the other day how the media need more people like you, and then poof i see this video. Fantastic. Really best of luck mate, I'm sure this is going to be a rousing success.

Max Geiser Over the years, one of my negative criticisms is that Phil always came off as a little self-absorbed. Naming a fancy patreon "DefrancoElite.com" makes it sound like we are a bunch of mindless zombies that just follow whatever he says. That is my thought though.
I've been watching Phil for a little less then a year, so I may not have much of a reference point as you, however I don't feel this way at all. Perhaps he chose the name simply because he likes the way it sounds or because now that he's independent, he can literally name it after himself! Of course, this is just my opinion, and although I don't agree with yours, I respect it none the less.
You know how he says: "I love yo faces." That makes it sound like he is some sort of Justin Beiber or boy band acknowledging his adoring fans. Kinda egotistical if you ask me. Do you see what I am saying there?

Love your show Phil. I am a 44 yr old male whom works in the oil industry. As you might guess I lean conservative, but I agree with a lot you say on your show. I feel that a majority of the people in this country fall really close to the center on most subjects, and whether those on the left or the right care to admit to that is irrelevant. What they fail to see is whether you are conservative or liberal, republican or democrat, and of the other verbiage people label themselves with the majority of Americans are simple animals(myself included) that want the truth. Unbiased delivery is what I mean, and you DELIVER!!!
I am nearly 47 year old male and I live in Washington State. As you might have guessed I lean Liberal. Now having said that, I couldn't agree with you more! I HATE what the news has become. I am glad to see someone like Phil is making an effort to stay unbiased and when he does give his opinion he makes it CLEAR and doesn't disguise it as something other than that.
Jim Casey yes, I am neither American or much involved in your politics, but from my perspective your country really has major political problems, your system basically crushes middle leaned people and the news either report democratic or republican biased, while both parties have basically the same program, but do it their way. If you could really trust a news network to be unbiased, there would even be the chance of a non-party president. Concurrency only has benefits. For a better future with media, which finally does what it is supposed to do, being unbiased and giving you the full story, so you can finally form your own opinion, without finding out the next day that everything you believed yesterday is wrong and based on air !

From a fan; someone who has connected with many of your videos throughout the years, I urge you to consider this. Granted, I am no businessman. I am not savvy in marketing either. However, I am a fan. I connected, much like many others out there, with your old channel: SourceFed. Honestly, the comedic value within it has changed my life, especially when times grew very dark. The channel inspired creativity and gave a warm home-like feeling to all who chose to join in and watch. The fiasco that's happened recently with the Nerd channel has caused chaos and uprising within the audience and even some previous hosts, causing them to speak their minds.
There is SO much potential with the ideology of SourceFed, and it can be resurrected. It just needs the guidance and loyalty to achieve said potential. I plead for you to reconsider, especially with your new move to be an independent creator, yet again. You know what works; your 5.4 million subscribers is a small testament to that. You're superb at finding loopholes and finding the advantageous route through anything you do. Here's what I'm thinking:
Merge the SourceFed component with what you're doing and you'll have such a spring board in what you're doing. You have your comedic side and also a news network that shows you, the audience, what the real news is. By bringing in the cast and crew from the SourceFed team, you bring that fanbase, which is amazingly large considering all that has been done by them. By gathering the lost sheep of SourceFed and putting them in mixed in with your ideas about real news, real talk, real everything,... Now That is something I feel we all would watch.
I know you're a busy guy. I know that there's probably a one in a million chance you'll see this (and another one in a million you'll respond). However, I believe in trying to put whatever I can out there to make a difference; a change for the better. I hope you can hear my voice. I hope you see what I see, and see what we love. It's a cry for help from someone who can't do much about what has happened. Regardless of your decision, you still have my sub. You're a great person and have such a talent for what you do. SimplyCanadian don't forget though, that has to pay for a lot of overhead, he's got a company with mouths to feed and paychecks to cash. He'll probably need a lot more to have any kind of room to grow and add people.

GalaxyEspeon Not just facts but fair judgement. Everyone has a bias but calling people on their shit (even if they're on your side) is important and Phil's been great about that.
I agree, but my only concern is that this idea might be too romanticised. Even if we are to assume that Phil himself can present the facts in an objective way before getting opinions involved consistently (which he has done well so far) if more and more people are added to the team that may run the risk of the 'facts' getting slightly distorted, not researched properly, or subtly getting injected with a bias unintentionally or otherwise.
I trust in Phil's vision and a news network that focuses on facts first sounds great, but there's a part of me that feels like it can't be done. That even if it does do well at launch it will only be a matter of time until the the objectivity starts slipping. And that's not a judgement I'm making on Phil or any potential people he may hire to his news team, I just feel like it's human nature to gravitate towards bias even when you are trying not to. Then again, maybe I'm just cynical.
who knows, in the future, instead of major media outlets, we have independent news channels on youtube?

That's how you start. You can't possibly expect to be able to investigate events happening around the world, or even just in this country, when you're just starting out. So, instead of investigating, you research. You take other people's investigations, collate them, examine all sides, and try to present them without the biases that so often come with them these days. That's what sets this show apart from so many others. And as he grows, who knows. Maybe he could turn this into an investigative news source, hiring his own journalists. In any case, it's far better than what most "news" organizations do.
You can tell that a lot of people commenting have not followed D for long. I have followed you D... before SF, I was even willing to give up an organ at one point to keep your news going. Although you did swing major left for a bit but you found your center again. I supported you then and I will support you now. Trolls, D is very good at reporting no nonsense news. If you watch and like his current show, then you should WANT to help him continue and expand. The PDS is one of my favorite ways to stay on top of daily news. Without him, there would be a lot of things in the past I would not have cared about or even been aware of. You do not have to donate if you don't want to, but don't put anyone down for "putting money in the pockets of a millionaire". Us patreons most likely have been watching Phil for years, and we know our money isn't just going to him, but to this network he has created that we support.

(I don't Subscribe to Phil; probably I've seen 5 videos total, The Disney Cruise a few years ago... him walking through a mall talking about folks who 'used to watch' him on CZcams... anyway... Why did Phil wait *X* number of years to give HIS opinion _not_ (?) tainted by “the powers that be” but yet kinda always-from my handful of witnessed videos-presented with his voice & character that he was giving his personal perspective? Wait, I don't really care to know the answer, that however just crossed my mind when watching this video-that Google suggested would “fit” my curiosity/attention approval-about a _free_ news source without a “sponsored” agenda.)
I imagine [based on some colab “Christmas” special a few years back] that there is an element of “Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints” agenda that is underlying. But that was only based off the one video, of the however-many-thousands-video catalogue accumulated... a miniscule scale for me to use to create an imaginary conclusion.

You have to have "bit ambitious" goals in life
A lot of theories out there at the moment so let me explain mine. Philly D is using patreon not only to gather funds but to gather support. He doesn't necessarily need the money. CZcams has given him plenty of money. All new businesses are a gamble, however if people are donating to a project, they are likely to want to see the project be successful because otherwise it would be a wasted donation. So if Philly is building a new sourcefed and people are donating then they will watch and support even if it's shit. Consequently making him more money.

I don't think it's dumb. Phil gathers his news from a few different sources and is then as unbiased as he can be. That's better than what we get from those that actually have the investigative reporters on staff.

I find it astonishing how many people view his content yet have no comprehension of how much money it costs to actually run a news network (the end goal). He is no longer with Discovery. Meaning that all the people he employs work *for him*. He has to *pay them*. Discovery was paying them before. He also now has to pay for overhead. Because Discovery was paying for that before. He had to spend God knows how much money to get the rights to his show back. He has literally taken on an insurmountable amount of financial responsibility. Sure, he's got a few million to his name, but he would burn through all his personal finances in about a year, at most, without doing this patreon thing. I honestly cannot believe how many ignorant people are here. Is it really that difficult to understand how much money things cost? Seriously.
