I don't like any chilli where there is more kidney beans than meat. The fact you can get 3x tins of the Smart Price Chilli to one tin of Stagg makes a huge difference if you are on a budget and the way things are going that's going to be all of us soon.
Until the supermarkets cotten on and start upping the price of their value brands because no is/can afford the named brands. Totally agree with your comment btw, things are getting ridiculous now.

Normally make a quick chilli by using a cheap tin of chilli like Asda smartprice, a tin of kidney beans in chilli sauce, a green pepper (usually left over from a bag of 3 peppers) and then add in a lot more onion plus more chilli powder to make a a generous serving for multiple people. The fact the asda is also significantly lower calorie is also a huge bonus too.
I got to be honest as someone who very much enjoys Chili, I much prefer the Stagg chili...Having said that it is more expensive, and if your on a budget I think the Asda Chili would suffice just fine. And with how things are, you have to do what you have to do.
They increased the price from 59p to £1.32 when they changed to the yellow labels. Probably because they became popular due to the work of these good people. Now they have come back down to 97p due to lots of bad reviews complaining about more than doubling the price. Greedy Adsa! Great videos, keep them coming.
Telling you now Gareth I've been eating asda smart price chilli for ages it's absolutely quality delicious doesn't get better actually to say its out of a tin... Good tea for you is a jacket potato covered in smart price asda chilli with cheese on top it tastes amazing... Good to see your reaction
Just wanted to say a big thanks, and well done, to you Gareth. I think you have found a great niche here, something we didn't know we needed. Have a great 2022.
At the end of the day I think I'd much rather buy some fresh mince, which is pretty cheap about £1.50 for 500g,a tin of chopped tomatoes for about 30p,kidney beans are about 40p or 60p depending on the size of the can, chillies or chilli powder is about 70p for fresh chillies and £1 for powder, which will last for ages in the cupboard. The thing is you know exactly what is going into it,and you can choose what you want to put in and how much, and it always taste better.
Don't forget the cumin and coriander powder and chopped fresh coriander near to the end, which are the most important ingredients. beef stock and red wine as well. Teaspoon of honey, fresh lime..
Try the Tesco one.. It leaves the Asda one standing.. Stagg was my go-to, but tried Asda, Tesco and Lidl. Tesco came out on top, from a "bang for buck" point of view.. Stagg will always be my favourite, but at the price of buying a can of red kidney beans (if you're a fan of them) on top of the Tesco ones, money has still been saved. Asda ones weren't too bad, but the Lidl ones are lacking in taste in my opinion.. Each to their own I guess! Happy New Year to you and yours! 🥳
Just watched the video. The Asda "Smart Price" chilli con carne (now known as the "just essentials" range) has increased from 59p to 97p in 8 months!! An increase of around 70%! Just shows how inflation is biting!! Mind you, the Stag version has only increased by 11p to £1.90 in Asda, so maybe the supermarkets are increasing the price of their value items as they know folk can't afford the big brand names! 🤔
You're not the only one who's been raving about this smart price chilli. I bought a few tins based on the great reviews online and loved it so just picked up 6 more today! Thank you for showing people not to overlook something because of the label, every penny counts for most people atm.
A tin of that smartprice, on a large baked spud and a grating of cheddar... Bingo! Fit for a king. Happy new year to you and your family by the way. Keep up the good work.
Hi there another fantastic video like always and just to say happy New Year to you I hope you have a fantastic 2022 cause you’ve had a good 2021 with your channel and just to say you’ve helped me so much with my own channel and I hope in 2022 I can get a little way towards where you are but thank you once again from me
Had the asda chilli, worth every penny to say its a tinned product. Stagg used to be chilli that all others were judged by, it was wholesome, big chunks of beef, really substantial. Last time I had Stagg Chilli was the last time, corners have been cut in my opinion but the price hasn't. Also seems the Stagg has an overwhelming 'aftertaste' that it never used to have. Another good video.
Yep, it's a very cheap chilli in a higher quality sauce these days, they have cut corners massively on the main ingredient that is for sure. It's a premium priced product with what would be considered to be 'value' or economy quality meat.
This is just brilliant Gareth, this is what it's all about! How many other products are like this? This is a voyage of discovery and you're the explorer! Keep up this pal, it's priceless for people on a low budget, love it! Just a passing thought Gareth . . . if you bought the ASDA cheap brand and added some of the red bottle Piri Piri oil it would take it up to another level? When I do a shop at ASDA I often put a bag of goodies into the foodbank trolley, the ASDA chilli cheap option can now be added with more tins because it's cheaper, so helping more foodies, well done you! You know the Uncle Ben's microwavable rice (£2)? ASDA their own brand that's about 39~45p, usually near the bottom shelves, I also add some of them to the trolley, nearly five bags for the price of one! A stormer of a review pal, keep it up.
I usually buy the stage one when I get one of these but from what you have just said I'm going to be trying the Asda Smart price one next. With a big price different and less calories which is good if your trying to loose a pound or two. Thanks for the review and all the best for New Year 2022
The asda smart price one has to be a good bargain but i'd add chilli powder to it to spice it up a bit. Would be great for a quick option over a hotdog or chips.
Hi, love watching your videos. I’m retired and cook most of the food we eat from scratch. But I do appreciate that not everybody is in my position. I also live with in 10 min drive of all the big branded supermarkets. But for me Aldi is the furthest away. I’d love to recommend a product I ate at my sons house the other day. “The Best” chicken 🐔 and leek pie from M&S. a bit expensive at £7 ish but well worth the money. I hope the people watching this have a peaceful New Year.
The Asda one has always been good, nice to see you do this one , have a great new year buddy , have you been to Aldi for the hot smoked mackerel yet 😁 , look forward to more great videos next year 🤘🏴🦐
Good wee video..again!!! Interesting video...big difference in price, and the well known brand leader is not as tasty as the Asda one!! Amazing! Happy New Year to you!
i lost a ton of weight on these, i'd take half a can of con carne, half a tin of kidney beans or pinto beans, and about a 1/3 of a tray of microwave rice. Whack it all in a bowl, in the microwave. Maybe a bit of chipotle chilli paste too (Can add a little bit of chocolate if you've got a sweet tooth). And you've got a really low calorie meal. I ate that twice a day for a month and lost about 20lbs. also took a mutli-vitamin at the same just in case i wasn't getting enough of anything. Once i didn't need to lose much weight any more i started putting cheese on top. Then eventually i started making my own massive pot of chilli, bought 25kg of pinto beans and everything, and then freezing the chilli in meal portions. Since then i notcied the stagg seems have doubled in price. Wouldn't be able to do that with the stagg any more so good to see theres alternatives
Love chilli but found Stagg too dense. Make my own own and freeze portions. Don't use kidney beans prefer baked beans washed. We all know original chilli does nott use mince meat but pieces of steak so many recepies . Just buy Asda add a few extra spices.Another really good post .THANKS
Not a big fan of the kidney beans tbh....but your vids this year have been full of beans! Great channel Gareth really enjoyed it and looking forward to more next year. So that said wishing you and your family a very Happy New Year 🎉🍸🍺

Hi not watched the video yet saving till later on tonight. Would just like to say thank you for your videos made us all smile in our house happy new year to you and your family from Ian and Christine.
Amazingly the Asda "everyday essentials" chilli con Carne (which I think is their cheapest) is now 97p, a 64.5% increase in price in less than a year. The Stagg is £1.90. But inflation is 9%.
I enjoy a sneaky canned chilli or curry, lwith some microwave rice. Love the fact you show us the ingredients ! i usually go with Princess but I do enjoy the veggie Staag chilli too.
Brilliant stuff Gareth, I’ve never commented before but your videos are excellent....I’m a foodie who loves all burgers, chicken,Indian and pretty much everything....keep up the good work!

Gotta love a good Asda smart price chilli! And..... I did the month of December with the growing a beard Gareth, but had to shave it off yesterday, I just couldn't cope with it anymore. All the best to you mate 👍👍
Great honest review and shocked me , thought the smart price would be like water , but looked really nice , we normally get the Princess as find the Stagg very dark , but will be trying the Smart Price one as a hell of a saving with what your saving that would buy the rice
Hi Gareth, I also love a good chilli and I've used a can of basic shop chilli con carne to top up a leftover homemade one, may have been co-op own brand but it still went down a treat with rice and tortilla wraps.....old year nearly over so just to wish you and your family a happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year 😀
Cheers Gareth great video, both chilli looked good, it’s the smart price on for me . Happy new year & have a banging night out tonight All the best . 🥂🍾👍
I'd much rather get 3 tins of the Asda brand for the price after seeing this. I used to buy the Stockwell chilli from Tesco, but it jumped from 59p to £1. I'm enjoying your videos too :)
I used to love the “stagg” chilli, but unfortunately as I got older, I have found out that I can’t eat it anymore😢😭 would still prefer it over most brands as the flavour is very good and ingredients that are used seem to be better than most.👍
Hi Gareth great review again. Congratulations on raising all the money For help for heroes. You have done Well growing you're Beard but I must Admit you do look better without it It makes you look a lot older with it. Happy new year to you and you're family. Keep on doing the Brilliant food reviews You are doing into the new year. And I will Keep on watching. Spot on Gareth!
I will buy a few cans next time I'm in Asda to put in the food bank give someone a treat, Thank you Garath I'm allergic to sweetener so I have to be so careful what I eat, if the ASDA can is sweet I would avoid. Thank you Happy New year to you and yours ☺
Happy new year! As my supermarket of choice is Lidl I would buy Lidl's own chilli but I much prefer my home made chilli it may be dearer than any shop bought chilli but when I make it it lasts me nearly a week.
Big joe. Hi Gareth , well done for trying these. I have tried them and there not for me. The only stag I'll be going to is the stag Inn pub up the road. LOL CHEERS
smart price chilli goes lovley on a hot dog and a bit of melted cheese , for me stagg tastes more of the can than chilli . ill stick with the cheap. good with rice for a cheap feed too . all the best Gareth happy new year to you and the family . stay safe and love the channel
I like the way you pay attention to detail, like showing clearly the amount of content in each can, with the Stagg 10mm lower than the ASDA. And as you started stirring the Stagg, I wondered, is he going to use a separate spatula for the ASDA? And of course you did! Now I have one problem with chilli con carne: I _loathe_ kidney beans! Which is a shame, because the beef and gravy will no doubt taste delicious. I was even wondering to myself whether I could just pick out and discard the kidney beans. After all, their shape is a dead giveaway.
@@golddalekwho5944 I'll get a tin and try it out. It's actually years since I ate kidney beans. A relative of mine often cooked chilli con carne from scratch when we went round for a meal. All I remember is I hated the kidney beans. The sauce was fine.
As a chili con carne lover i have tried nearly all own brand and Branded Cans and can also say that the Smart price exceeds all expectations for the price and is really lovely over a hot jacket potato.
Hi Gareth hope all’s well. I’m not particularly surprised by this review for you to say the smart price was tastier for yourself. If you’re into a slightly more sweet tasting one then why would you not choose it, as you say it’s a no brainer. If I’m making a tomato based sauce I would add a half teaspoon of sugar to cut through the acidic bitterness that comes from the tomatoes, it works. Great review again Gareth thanks 😊😘 xx
Acidic bitterness? Cooked tomatoes should naturally sweeten when cooked especially if long and slow. The Italians and everyone else have been making tomato based foods without sugar for centuries lol.
I laugh when you was tipping the stag tin in and you said it's like dog food tipping it out, I thought as long as it doesn't taste like it, not that I've tasted dog food 😅. Excellent review, a shocker the smart price was nicer, just goes to show, just because its dearer doesn't mean its better. Have a good evening. Happy New Year to All!!
Can you do a compression of different supermarket cocktail sausages? The Asda ones taste like soap but I wanna know what you think is the best value/tastiest ones available.
Watched your video and, as usual, it made me hungry for chilli!!!!!! I'm not keen on medium strength curries or chilli (I like them hot), so I was in Tesco, and I saw a tin of Stagg 'Dynamite' Hot chilli, and thought I would give it a go. It was £1.50, so reduced. I'm pretty impressed with it. It is tasty, good and hot, with plenty of 'lingering afterburn', and made my eyes and nose run too! Impressive. I was a little disappointed with Tesco, as I was initially looking to get a freshly made one, out of the ready meal fridge, but there weren't any, except one that came with a portion of rice; too small and not hot enough. Enjoying your videos, so keep up the good work. Cheers!
Well that was totally unexpected , youd have thought for the price of that Stagg Chilli it would be 1st class but apparently not and for around 50p the Asda one is a bargain , thanks again mate as these reviews do help a lot
Glad you liked the smart price… I quite like the basic brands, I think even if I could afford the named brands I wouldn’t bother, not much in the quality to be honest. I’m sure a lot of people will disagree but it’s only my humble opinion 😁 anyway all the best for 2022 to you and your family Gareth, and all the best to all my fellow foodies. Stay safe, have fun, and I’ll see you all next year 🥰🥰🥰 xx 😘👍🏻
Have to admit we make our own ( as the supermarkets here only have imported cans at crazy prizes) but around 60p a can for the Asda brand is great value and perhaps could be used to add to a homemade chili for extra volume

Cheers all. All the best 😋😋👍👍🍻🍻
Amazing Garath, I'm going to stock up with few of them, to put over a jacket potato, thanks for all your reviews in 2021, and Happy new year mate.
Cheers David, all the best 😋👍👍
Great vid as always where did you get the silicone spatulas from?
I bought the blue one from TK Max the red was sent to be as a gift.
Happy New Year Gaz. Hope you had a good Christmas.
All the best for 2022 👍👍
Keep up the good work.
Cheers Ross, all the best 🎉🍻👍
Well you've made my mind up Gaz thanks for the review, happy new year 🎉🎉X
All the best Lorraine, have a good one 🎉👍🍻🍻
Great honest review and shocked me , thought the smart price would be like water , but looked really nice , we normally get the Princess as find the Stagg very dark , but will be trying the Smart Price one as a hell of a saving with what your saving that would buy the rice
Cheers 😋😋👍
perfect for cleaning your system out prior to the new year:) happy new year 2022 greetings from sweden🥳
Haha All the best 😋👍🍻🍻🎉
Hi Gareth, I also love a good chilli and I've used a can of basic shop chilli con carne to top up a leftover homemade one, may have been co-op own brand but it still went down a treat with rice and tortilla wraps.....old year nearly over so just to wish you and your family a happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year 😀
Cheers James, good your well. All the best to you 🍻🎉👍😋🍺
Great vid as always boss, happy new year.
Cheers 🍻👍🎊🎊
Another excellent review Gareth thanks again, best wishes for a healthy and prosperous new year to and your family.
Cheers Peter, all the best 🎉🍻🎉👍
Cheers Gareth great video, both chilli looked good, it’s the smart price on for me . Happy new year & have a banging night out tonight All the best . 🥂🍾👍
All the best mate 😋🍻🍻
I'd much rather get 3 tins of the Asda brand for the price after seeing this. I used to buy the Stockwell chilli from Tesco, but it jumped from 59p to £1. I'm enjoying your videos too :)
All the best for the new year Gareth x
Excellent and honest review once again. Thankyou. 👏
I used to love the “stagg” chilli, but unfortunately as I got older, I have found out that I can’t eat it anymore😢😭 would still prefer it over most brands as the flavour is very good and ingredients that are used seem to be better than most.👍
Hi the Stagg dynamite hot only Stagg one I liked , as always great content .HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOURS
Cheers all the best 👨👩👦😋🎉👍
oh! you frightened me ! new to channel and this was a random choice and I hadn't seen you with beard before
haha yes grew it for charity last year
Hi Gareth great review again. Congratulations on raising all the money
For help for heroes. You have done
Well growing you're Beard but I must
Admit you do look better without it
It makes you look a lot older with it.
Happy new year to you and you're family.
Keep on doing the Brilliant food reviews
You are doing into the new year. And I will
Keep on watching. Spot on Gareth!
Yes it does, it's getting trimmed, all the best 😋🎉👍
They both look good, Staggs dynamite hot one on Jacket potato is my favourite. Looking forward to you doing that on .
Cheers Sandra, yes got that one. 😋🍻🎉
All the best for 2022, you may have competition but you will always be Number One.
Big joe. Hi Gareth , well done for trying these. I have tried them and there not for me. The only stag I'll be going to is the stag Inn pub up the road. LOL CHEERS
Haha all the best Joe 😋🍻🍻
smart price chilli goes lovley on a hot dog and a bit of melted cheese , for me stagg tastes more of the can than chilli . ill stick with the cheap. good with rice for a cheap feed too . all the best Gareth happy new year to you and the family . stay safe and love the channel
Cheers Ian, thank you. All the best 👨👩👦😋🎉🍻
Happy new year to you I’m recovering from covid your videos have helped me get through it happy new year every one
Thank you, all the best 🎉👨👩👦😋👍
The kidney beans are so small in those things you can hardly taste them anyway 😉
@@golddalekwho5944 I'll get a tin and try it out. It's actually years since I ate kidney beans. A relative of mine often cooked chilli con carne from scratch when we went round for a meal. All I remember is I hated the kidney beans. The sauce was fine.
We love the Asda smart price chiili. I always buy that. Meat in Stagg chilli is like processed rubber bullets, total rip off.
Cheers Emily, thank you, all the best 👨👩👦👍🍻😋
@@BaldFoodieGuy All the best to you and your family xxx
As a chili con carne lover i have tried nearly all own brand and Branded Cans and can also say that the Smart price exceeds all expectations for the price and is really lovely over a hot jacket potato.
The Stagg one looks like lieutenant Columbos favourite in his films 😂👍
Great review Graham👍, try the Stag Dynamite version, it has more flavour than the classic stag and a lot hotter.
I am blown away 😳 too Garath !! This is what is so
amazing about your channel
Thanks a lot Have a great time tonight 😊 Lyndax
Cheers, you too 🍻🍻🎉🎉👍
Think you need a straw with both off the Gareth 😂😂😂 aw ra best big fella for 2022 keep us laughing 👍👍👍👍
Cheers Ian, all the best 😋👍🍻🍻
@@BlueZirnitra Well, I did see it somewhere. Either baking soda, a little bit of butter, or, wait for it… a taste of… guess what? Sugar…
LOL
I laugh when you was tipping the stag tin in and you said it's like dog food tipping it out, I thought as long as it doesn't taste like it, not that I've tasted dog food 😅. Excellent review, a shocker the smart price was nicer, just goes to show, just because its dearer doesn't mean its better. Have a good evening. Happy New Year to All!!
Haha cheers Jan 😋🎉😋👍
Happy new year to you and your family Gareth 😊...Hope you have a fantastic 2022....
All the best mate 🎉🍻🍻👍
The fact the Asda one contains bones tells you everything about why it's cheap. I love the hot Stagg one with Uncle Bens mexican rice.
Each To Their Own pal
Can you do a compression of different supermarket cocktail sausages? The Asda ones taste like soap but I wanna know what you think is the best value/tastiest ones available.
Nice review Gareth
Happy new year to you and family
All the best Kizzy 👨👩👦🎉😋🍻
Another great review pal 👍 I like the tesco own brand one aswell but u can't beat stag in my opinion happy new year everyone
Cheers Vortex thank you. All the best to you 😋😋👍👍🎉
Happy New Year to u an yours Gareth...The smart price was lower in sugar and carbs also..A winner then
Yes I noticed that too 😋🎉👨👩👦
3 for the price of 1 stag, amazing value, i always buy them smart beans too, ahappy new year mate
Cheers!
It used to be a fair bit hotter than it is now. It's good but I like to add a bit more cumin and coriander as the flavour is a bit "flat".
Love these reviews of things we actually buy! Me and our lass love them keep it up 👍🏻
Cheers Alex, will do 😋👍🍻
Well that was totally unexpected , youd have thought for the price of that Stagg Chilli it would be 1st class but apparently not and for around 50p the Asda one is a bargain , thanks again mate as these reviews do help a lot
Cheers Chris 🍻👍
@@BaldFoodieGuy Thanks mate , look forward to the next Video
Glad you liked the smart price… I quite like the basic brands, I think even if I could afford the named brands I wouldn’t bother, not much in the quality to be honest. I’m sure a lot of people will disagree but it’s only my humble opinion 😁 anyway all the best for 2022 to you and your family Gareth, and all the best to all my fellow foodies. Stay safe, have fun, and I’ll see you all next year 🥰🥰🥰 xx 😘👍🏻
Cheers Diane, thank you. Yes I preferred the cheaper one. You have a good one. All the best 😋😍🎉😋👍😍
Nice beard pal .......HAPPY NEW YEAR xxx
Have to admit we make our own ( as the supermarkets here only have imported cans at crazy prizes) but around 60p a can for the Asda brand is great value and perhaps could be used to add to a homemade chili for extra volume
I've not had the Asda one, but would still always go for the Stag one
Think you need a bag of cool doritos to go with that mate.
Great review gareth.
HAPPY NEW YEAR BUDDY
Oh yes, all the best mate 🍻😋🎉👍
