  • After we learn how to safely function our firearm, the next step is to ingrain the fundamentals of Marksmanship, a pal calls them "The essentials of Marksmanship". I like that as they are that important.
When we have safe manipulations and the essentials of Marksmanship down, we can then consider carrying a firearm into the world.
We never are beyond training safety, sound manipulation of the gun, and Marksmanship, never forget that, but think about this.
You can do all that well, but if you can't get it out and on target when you need it, none of the rest matters.
Train, train, train your draw stroke. Ingrain it, refine it, smooth it out until you can't fail.
I hope you never need to use a gun in violence, but if you do, I hope you dominate the situation with righteousness, good ethics, and sound practices that get you home to your people.
    Consider training with us.

Love this! I equate this to golf. You can play and practice every day for years then suddenly loose interest. Few years go by and you go shoot. You’ll either pick up where you left off OR everything falls apart. I’ve been there several times 😂 . Moral of the story is when you feel you’ve made it, keep practicing.

The statement: speed comes with elimination of waste (I say the same thing a little differently - speed comes when you aren’t making any mistakes or wasted moves), couldn’t be truer! Being in a hurry often results in sloppiness and mistakes and wastes time. Slow down just a bit until your efficiency is near perfect every time and guess what - you will be faster. Very good video!

The draw and presentation is so important. I really liked the wave technique from modern samurai project. Helped me in finding the dot and still helps me be smooth and effective. Still working on speed. I have found from never ending practice that certain shirts I own are too long and get in the way of my draw especially if I have my mag extension on mt glock 17. Aiwb my extension/grip will snag on the shirt even if my support hand pulled up. I have to reach way over and pull up high on my shirt and get it out of the way. Getting to my reload was a challenge too because of shirt too long. Practice practice practice every single day.

Honestly, if you can, I suggest people dry rep with what they are wearing for the day. I get that sometimes you are in a rush, or maybe you can't...but at some point, it's good to get some reps in and figure out how certain articles affect your draw. I know that for me, there's certain coats which will add a decent delay to my draw.
PS. When you dry fire, remember to think about your grip. Don't get lazy just because there's no recoil. You don't need to crush the gun, dominant hand grabs the gun as hard as you can, stick your middle finger up and then back down, that should be alright. Support hand comes on to the gun, get meat up against the frame, and give enough squeeze so that the gun doesn't want to shift around. Vice gripping isn't necessary to be fast.

    • @CarryTrainer

One thing you CAN’T train out on the range that i think is MOST VITAL to self defense is situational awareness and ability to retreat. Seems a lot of people who carry are ready to be the hero who saves the day when in reality your best option is to remove yourself from the situation altogether and only pull if there’s no other options. I see a lot of fudds getting gunned down….

    • @CarryTrainer
      @CarryTrainer  Před 2 měsíci +1

Where do you see people being gunned down?
Train new movements or mechanics in isolation until they are ingrained. You can then add other factors.
As for retreating of course we should always seek to avoid trouble.
That said, if you are training to do violence, that's what you must train. Awareness, deescalation, running, etc. Are another training topic

your one hand draws both from open and concealed carry is something to do in sets with your clothing before you leave for the day, one hand draws are the most important since we may need left hand to block, get someone to safety, go for knife, go for pepper spray or having something in left hand while doing something. a true combat grip is a one hand grip that's not dependent on left hand to complete the grip, a high right thumb up waiting for left hand is not a strong grip, Bob Stasch CPD with dozens of gun fight wins talks about how fast things happen and many times he only was able to get gun with one hand and a flash front sight, he said mostly is was point shooting, so those one hand draws and even some point shooting tuellers drill distance 7 yards and in is good to practice. While at home draws you can keep doing, even if you mastered your draws like I demonstrate on my CZcams videos you still should make it a habit especially for one hand draws, though 7 yards is considered self defense distance on thousands of videos it's more like 5 yards especially for non police and non military private citizens, the context of a private citizens in defense situations has some exceptions to the rule but for the most part can't be lumped in the same research and same collected defense incidences as police and military, that way we get data specifically in the context of a private citizen only

One hand draws are a skill for certain and are part of our training program.
As with any skillset, such as the topic of this video, it must be trained in isolation then incorporated into a larger scope of work. We can always add things. A foundation matters and that's a two-handed draw stroke.

@@CarryTrainer and we are shooting for smaller targets like your circle drills, I see fast guys that can run shooting multiple big steel and paper torso targets and you go up to them targets and notice nothing hit the heart area, real life no drop in blood pressure or minimal, that's like being a fast boxer on a bag but in the ring no hits, it's looks fast and impressive from outside the ring but not in a real fight, it's the nature of every one to want to be perceived as fast but we need a standard and a mind set of blocking out that we have a audience to prove something to and shoot accurate. for example you work on a 4 inch circle say 10 yards, you shoot 3 shots and notice a tight group, then you speed it up noticing them 3 shots are still in the kill zone so still looking good so we shoot faster yet noticing we are not on 4 inch kill zone so we back off the cadence till we get back in the kill zone, like driving a car, we can go faster but we stay on the road knowing our pace limitations similar to dirt track racing up here in Minnesota the guys mentally know their pace limitations to stay on the road

@libra7624 I see one thing that stands out , if I'm shooting a 3in target, that's the target. There is no "kill zone"
You either hit that 3in target or you didn't
This is a problem in defining goals and specifics in training.

@@CarryTrainer by kill zone I mean keeping it in your standard, for example a 4 inch set of circles a goal of staying in that kill zone or your prefence for your drill purpose, I like to stick with 4 inches because it's a vital like the heart or 5 x 3.5 and a index card is a good target to fit for that one, even notebook paper folding 4 times, also a closed fist can represent the heart, a old school way to represent the heart when shooting for groups or 3 round bursts as fast as you can keep shots in the zone and when shots fall out slowing down to get all 3 in that zone, competition targets I don't like much, the A zone is to big, it makes people look fast but the heart put on the paper target like a 4 inch circle I like to do to my targets, hitting that heart and dropping blood pressure and go for a failure drill 2 to heart and one to head, everyone may vary with standards but I like to put in circles the size of the heart and maybe a 3 inch circle representing in between eyes or tape the famous T shape in

The “Carry” is too gunny for my personal taste but if you were to sell a shirt or 2 with the logo smaller and less conspicuous…might be a different story. Flag on one sleeve, small logo on the other.?. & one of the scenes on front with one of your positive or neutral sayings. (Like the naked one.& “train”could be talking exercise not shooting. Most of that weapon check should just be redundant.
If you're at the range regularly, like monthly, with you're carry gun, as you should be,
And if you're cleaning, it every time you get home, as you should be,
Most of those maintenance items are done.

In a real fire fight everything goes into slow motion or what seems like slow motion and that's when repetition kicks in and all that training pays off. When its over time resumes, it seems like days passed by when it was only a few seconds. To finish carry one in the pipe you will loose every time if you got to rack that slide in a fire fight. I show people all the time we square off and draw at the buzzer they loose every time standing there holding the weapon with a dumb look on their face and their hand on the slide not even racked yet.. Just my opinion. Good vids by the way.

Question. The steps shown are correct in the instance of combat and related combat distances. You have typically anticipated an enemy encounter and accuracy at those distances requires aiming the weapon using its sights. However, most conceal carry interactions emerge at closer distances and with less foresight and related permissible response time. In the instances of a carjacking or attempted holdup the perpetrator will usually not be issuing a command at a distance but ver close up - a few feet. They will try to get the jump on you. Do you really need to use your sights and take the time to use your sights at a distance of a few feet? Not really. What should that type of practice look like? One obvious problem is that that type of practice is typically not allowed on a public gun range. But since that type of concealed carry interaction actually constitutes the overwhelming majority of potential gunfights - don't you think it should be both shown and practiced even if, only on the basis of dry fire practice? I think that training in how to respond to a variety of potential real life scenarios is essential. You can't just try to figure that out on the spot based on a single, minority variant.

I live in the Midwest and get this same shit weather a lot. I try to get out on pretty much every day I have off work so I wind up shootin in the rain a bit. Don't have a lot goin on in my life so it's pretty easy to do that.
Don't make fun of me..I get to go shooting whenever I want to. I'm merely taking advantage of my free time.
And yeah when I practice I always start from the least ready state to simulate what might be going on when I'm not expecting it to happen.
That's not to say I don't fuck up still. I've made some pretty bad draws before where I got ahead of myself and had my muzzle pointed at my left hand when I drew in a hurry. Despite the fact that I get lots of practice I still make mistakes.
Keep practicing boy-o and don't let bad days get ya down. I shoot 10,000 rounds a year and still have rotten days. I just try to make it fun so she doesn't lose her sparkle.
