"Keep em wet and they're gonna live longer" - solid relationship advice man
My granddad was in a special forces unit in world war 2. They mainly fought in alleys taking one building at a time. They were fighting Germany’s best trained soldiers at the time. His rifle was his life. He ran his rifle dripping with oil, even his hunting rifles after the war were always dripping with oil. If you asked him why…..he couldn’t afford a jam. His guns NEVER jammed.
Just make sure you have an old shirt on the first few times you fire the damp weapon and you will have a smooth operating weapon.

Smart Man!Bravo Co.!
There was no such thing as "special forces" in world war 2. Green berets didn't come into existence until the 50s. Nice try though.
That’s how I do. Soak all the guts and let drip dry.
Sorry Mickey.
The kind of gun oil I prefer is organic with lavender, ginger, lemon, and gives my skin a vibrant and fabulous sheen. 💋

Showing people the stuff they need to know. Keep it up
Thank you for taking the time to really break down how to clean a rifle with an open-minded approach. All too often, people will exaggerate what you *must* do or not do; saying there is only one way to do things. You gave a great run down while explaining all the nuances behind the objective of taking care of a firearm. Make sure it's clean and make sure it's lubricate. Bristle brush is a great idea btw
Im 70 , and was a carpenter for most of my working life, I was always cleaning and adjusting my tools, nail guns, compressors, ect. great video, and even the music is not too loud , just right ! Im a big fan of clean white rags, I wipe the parts over and over as I go along, every part of the gun, kind of like when I wipe down the inside of my truck after I wash it ! There is just something about handling every inch of my gun as I clean , YOU do the same I see.
Love the idea of the pastry brush, I used a "Q" tip to add oil to difficult areas, learn something new from everyone, thanks
Great idea with the chip brush. A shaving brush is good for the outside and barrel, but those little brushes are great for the small spaces and buffer spring.
Great information. Thanks for making this. As a retired Army Vet and having penty of time I tend to keep all of my guns completely cleaned and lubed at all times. I know it isnt necessary but I enjoy doing it. I wasn't sure whether to run my ARs wet or barely lubed. Now I know! Thanks!
I learned a new thing about my AR in a couple of minutes of your video I really didn't know I could do. Thank you!
It's been a long time since I fired an M16 in Basic Training, and now I find myself as a new AR15 owner. I plan on absorbing every bit of info I can lay my hands on. Thanks for the video(s), Mickey!!
Same. I used to just spray clp on the bolt. It was a damn mess everytime I cleaned it.

Such a phenomenal video!!!! Absolutely love your energy and knowledge. Keep making content and I will keep watching!
Definitely agree with the methodology behind lubing and cleaning the internals. Externally, I found that lubing the exterior of the firearm in dusty environments contributes to more dust and particulates clinging to the outside of my weapon. So I always lube up the essentials, then make sure the outside is bone dry.
Some lubes attract more than others, Breakfree and Lucas stand out to be, haven’t tried them all but those two are the worst. Synthetic is the path
One thing you can try is an exterior cleaning rag. I had one come with my Hoppe's cleaning kit and it's almost like a fine wool rag that has oil blended into it. It'll keep the exteriors clean and gives it a very minimal coat of oil to help prevent rust!
If you want to maintain the exterior of a weapon, use a dry-lube. Rem-oil will evaporate overnight, but it leaves behind a Teflon coating.
I like remoil for the exterior of pistol slides and other parts like that. Would be good for the carbon steel flip up sights shown in this video. It’s not great for BCG’s because it evaporates, but might do ok in the buffer tube.
NO-THING attracts dirt. Lube does not have magical dirt magnetism. Dirt sticks to water. It's called mud. It doesn't attract it.
I had no idea you were a lefty. Now I like you even more!! So hard to find good gun guys on here that can relate to being a lefty! Awesome!
That Radian riffle, is a top tier riffle.....looks so nice, and functions even better.
lol, as a 60 and 240 AG and gunner, we used to drizzle 10w40 motor oil into the guns during any long livefire exercise.
As a part time diesel mech I'm mad at myself for not thinking of this. That makes too much sense, perfect additives for it too
Beautiful video. Thanks for this thorough cleaning and oiling video.
Pretty much exactly how I do it as well. I'll do a more detailed cleaning every so often, especially my defensive guns. Nothing wrong with a spotless rifle, but it's not 100% needed. Great video.
I've been neglecting the buffer spring and tube. Thx for the tip. All the great info!
I don't see this as over the top, I see this as giving a damn. Thank you.
Ballistol all the way here......cleaner and lube ,,,, has never failed me yet....

great video, thanks for passing on that wisdom from John. RIP.
I know you are sponsored by GFGO Mick, but for those who are not...I have been using Mobil 1 synthetic oil, and their synthetic grease... for YEARS on my guns, all of my guns. A few years ago, I figured out that if you mix it, you can make a thicker oil/thinner grease....and this stuff is AWESOME, at ALL temps. Being made for high performance engines, you WILL NOT get this too hot. I mix mine till it is about like honey or toothpaste in consistency....it STAYS where you put it and does not leak out. Plus when you add the grease, it is red...so it shows in color once it gets really dirty. I have used literally almost every gun designed lube out there....and my mix is better. I have shown some of my gunsmith buddies, and even a few guys I know who are or have been active military, and they all use it now. You can get a one pound can of the grease for $10, and the oil I use in my vehicles, so I just use left over new oil....you can buy a 20$ tiny can of decent gun lube....but the same amount of money in my mix, you will literally get ten to twenty times the volume for the same money, and from what I have seen, running guns for over 25 years, it is better than anything I have used....and there is probably nothing better on the market....try it out, it is awesome! I have tried a lot of the ‘newest and greatest’ gun lubes out there, and always go back to my mix. I don’t even try anything else these days, there is no point anymore FOR ME....I have found this mix works better than anything out there. The lack of wear on my guns, and the longevity of it, proves it to me...and literally everyone I have shown this, uses it over everything else they have tried....and the best part, you can mix it as thick or as thin as you want. So on parts you want greased, you can use a heavier mix, and where you prefer oil, you can run a thinner mix. Not trying to put down anyone, or any product...but after much use, and much experience with it...I have found it to be the best stuff I have ever used. Try it out....you will be happy you did.
Sounds like the mix my nephew makes. I use it in pistols, AR 15 , Ar 10 and my bolt guns. It is good stuff.
What’s the ratio of the mix?

I oil my AR's exaclty the same way you do sir, I also have the OCD of cleaning my guns after every range day, actually its more of zen for me. When I clean them peace of mind. Great video. I'm glad to see im not the only one that does this.
I've always cleaned and oiled my guns after every day's use. I grew up in rural PA where cleaning the guns at the kitchen table is nothing to even notice, and I never knew anybody that put their guns away dirty and dry. Must be an AR thing.
Yea I know the OCD thing, I've cleaned mine after shooting like 8 rounds when I test fired it brand new. People say, "I clean mine every 1,000 to 2,000 rounds" and I think to myself, "Do you take a shower once a month too?" Bet your guns are filthy!

I've never seen a video like this! I didn't know to clean the buffer tube spring. Thank you for this video. I have 4 AR's and never cleaned the buffer tube.
You can do that with short pistol & carbine buffer assemblies with short weights but if you have a full-length M16 or clone with a long military buffer weight, you won't be able to get the buffer assembly out of the tube because the weight won't clear the hammer after you release the buffer assembly detent. Just put a few drops of your preferred lubricant on the weight (the part inside the spring) and be done with it.
@@richardlahan7068 you can easily separate the upper and lower and take it out, I have one
Just watch out that you don't lose the detent or spring in the buffer tube. They have a tendency to just warp into another dimension if you don't physically remove them.
I think the most important safety rule is drop the magazine first before you start clearing . You’ve done that just wanted to give my opinion and this is a great video🤘😎🤘👍

motor oil works the best in my opinion
Fair enough. But the amount of oil this guy applied is gross neglect. The end all be all is if your oil is Flashing off then you are using the wrong oil. As the previous guy said I've had the best luck with Lucas heavy duty gun oil. CLP's are cool and all, What they serve a purpose that is what you use on your tail gate if you have a hang up. Grab some gun medic so get down it'll get you through the day then go home and clean out the sand pit that as developed stuck to the obscene excess amount of oil crammed inside of that weapon. If anybody doesn't agree with that why don't you tahsome sand and oil and see how good the viscosity of that oil remains all that ship building up in the oil access is essentially creating excess friction causing the oil to break down more than it normally would sell no matter how you look at it is over oil and get or sloppy wet technique is the reason his rifles are so dam dirty after every trip to the range where I spend maybe 300 rounds. Did anybody else notice that he "d that that weapon had been fired more by a significant amount By multiple other people therefore does he actually even know its history. And when it fails I will be intrested to know how many rounds he got through it because I will clean and oil my gun under 2 conditions 1 is having been out in the elements using me the weapon and to is storage. That's the only time there will be excess oil running down any part of my gun and I will not be pumping 10 drops of oil in to the magcatch

I fill a large container with oil dip my whole gun in it. Afterwards i hang it over the night to get rid of access oil. Next day when i go to range every one next to me is covered in oil and need to wash their clothes and take long baths. Works every time.
I'm surprised this guy didn't dip it a drum, the amount of lube he's using is way past ridiculous, you would have a BCG absolutely full of grit if you used that gun the way I use mine, but I guess at the indoor range he shoots at it's ok.
This was very helpful. Much appreciated.

I have been watching videos on how to do a field strip, and although this video does basically show a field strip, I have been watching other peoples videos on how to disassemble and reassemble. If you have a video on cleaning , please link it. I was going to build one so I can better understand the anatomy of an AR 15but saw a good priced AR 15 at a gun shop and could not help but buy it. For now, I ordered that gunfighter combo cleaner and lubricant, it seems like a good investment . Thanks again.
Thanks for the great video. I really think that you are correct that wet is better than dry. When I sell a pistol, I always offer to beginners a chance to have me go through a cleaning with them for their gun so they can understand how it works and how to check it as they are cleaning it. We offer cleaning at our store but I really believe that the gun owners should know how their gun works. Some women want their husband to do it but I encourage them to do it themselves.
Excellent oil makes the difference.
That is a great idea and I'm happy you're implementing it. Showing new gun owners how their firearm comes apart and operates is a huge advantage and will more than likely create a safer environment.
Thank you so much I really enjoyed this video. I’m a new AR owner and yes what you said is correct everyone wants a dry riffle. @@TGWraith Thanks for you input. I've been using engine oil, works fine and costs less!
There is a reason why your ar15 comes from the factory with no sign of visible oils and grease. It is because the armorer knows that excessive oil could make it into the chamber where it can actually be dangerous. The AR-15 was designed to operate with minimum oil, even in the high friction areas. But I do agree with proper cleaning after shooting. I've handled my AR in this manner for many years with no indication of substantial wear and it cycles every time.
When the Army & Marines were first given the AR-15 they were told that they would never need to clean their gun, hence they were not given cleaning kits. How many lost there lives because of this? Was someone possibly wrong?
Last time I went to the auto parts store I bought some Lucas gun oil. It works excellent in my Mini-14. The action is really smooth using Lucas. I think smoother than it's ever been. Now I just need to change the filter.

Good advice. I did want to know if you had a "guide" of sorts for the new AR owners out there, both build guys who built their own and those who got one "out of the box," mainly a "so, you've just bought an AR, here are some to-do things before your first range trip." Initial preventative maintenance, things to immediately lube up vs. what you don't have to right away, etc.
I've been lubing my buffer springs for years simply because it quiets the spring down, glad to know it wasn't a completely stupid notion.
I used an oil that worked well. You put it on heavy and either cook it in or run until it's hot clean and do again 3x. It attracted dirt after a few months of walking around with it but after 1 or 2 rounds it runs fine and carbon flakes off minimal cleaning. I had this dry most of the time.
I also use a little of high temp red wheel bearing grease on the BCG sliding points to the upper area's, never had any issues and works great
Tyson Currie two thumbs up on the use of a little grease. I use a little marine grease on my BCG.
Take care of her, and she will take care of you when the time comes.
God forbid of course!
Thanks guys! I just ordered some of that Gunfighter oil also.
Out Damed standing video . 14 year Army Veteran . 💜
All my years as a weapons trainer in the military I learned a ton. First most weapon misfeds and jams are linked directly to being lubed. Items like the buffer spring the lube collects carbon holds it and drags the buffer, also I always love going to the range and watching the clean guys having issues with zero. Meanwhile I break out mine that all I have done is clothe wiped the bolt bolt housing and buffer and drop rounds down range dead on. Fact is carbon seals the finer points creating a seal...weapon stays accurate and a drop or 2 of oil on the bolt so often during firing. A sitting lube weapon just collects dirt. My weapons always stay prepared as if my life depends on it, because you never know when that round is fired and your fighting for your life.
Yeah I saw some guy use grease on his buffer and the carbon turned it into literal sludge lol
For those steel parts, use Turtle Wax. Yes, the car polish. It gives a decent protective coating.
As long as it is NOT conventional carnauba wax. Most "wax" these days are long lasting polymer/ceramic coatings/sealants that hold up to heat and time. Carnauba wax is useless in a hot environment.
Fortunately, Turtle Wax has kept up with the times. MOST of its products contain ZERO wax! now!!! Their best stuff is made from polymers and ceramics. And yes, those types of products do well in the hot environment of gun parts!
i use Mothers aluminum mag polish. but i dont ever oil my rifles like this.
@@jaypavlov859
Mothers mag polish is perhaps the best for BARE aluminum, but gives marginal protection over top steel or hard anodizing. Modern synthetic "wax's" (polymer based) are far superior. Never use old fashioned Carnauba wax. It melts away immediately due to heat from a firearm.
New motor oil, Remington's oil, milsurp from the 60's, crisco, they all work.
Clean everything!

This entire video is a giant "thats-what-she-said!" joke
hahahahahaha most Excellent!
Lube helps reduce the ability for the rifle to jam also... gives very smooth action. My bolt carrier has a roller bearing on my AR-10.
I love everything you just did. I would just add. That I like to grease the hammer face, bottom of the bolt carrier, and a few other spots. And oil the rest. Grease has a higher heat point and holds up better and doesn't run away when it's vertical in a safe or lying on its side.
“Oh hey guys...”
wait is this an info-mercial? or a cooking show where the main course is oiled guns.....
Bob Ross of gun lubing. Nice video
Coming from all the classic, non tactical weapons and the PNW. Oil is good. Wet, to a reasonable degree is good. Every part of weapon especially friction points. I have noticed the dry running gun phenomenon lately.... Interesting. Personally for my heavy use weapons I use a light grease on friction points and oil as protective juice everywhere else. I find that really works best for long sessions between cleanings. Thanks for the vid.
I think that a lot of these guys who say to not lube or keep it bare minimum, served in Iraq or Afghanistan. If your in a place where sandstorms blot out the sun then , yeah, oil might hold more dirt. If you're in most American states that's not a problem. In most American states humidity is a problem because it causes rust, which oil prevents.
Good point. I live in a hot and humid state. I like Ballistol, though!
I hunt the dessert alot and if you use this much lube, your rifle will probably choke, sure if your shooting high volume in a static environment, but riding around in vehicles with dust everywhere, this is going to be bad for your weapons reliability.
I drenched my entire m4 in wd40 once a week In Baghdad. Never had a jam in 15 months of combat
With flammable lube?
Wd40 is not a lubricant... is wager it was more a testament to the quality of your rifle than anything else
Wd-40 isn't lube it's made to displace water. The wd stands for water displacement.
@@edcole9782 Directly from the WD-40 website. "WD-40® Multi-Use Product protects metal from rust and corrosion, penetrates stuck parts, displaces moisture and lubricates almost anything."
