- I think Rick and Morty is tryna trick us. Trick and Morty. They’re psyching us out, just wait. The latest episode JuRicksic Mort was MOSTLY a pretty classic feeling Rick and Morty Sci-Fi affair, but intertwined with this otherwise very episodic story were important canonical moments and meta-commentary. But based on how thick they’re laying down these ideas, I feel like it might be a concerted mislead. And I think this is further evidenced by Rick and Morty taking a 6 week hiatus before the final 4 episodes of the season air. Or maybe it is what it is and we’re just gonna get classic Rick and Morty romps with little to no serialization, WHO KNOWS, but I think they’re gearing up for a big end to the season. So let’s dive into this episode and I guess I’ll talk a bit about last week’s and what I expect to come after the hiatus.

the best thing about this episode was the fact that they didn't just make the dinosaurs secretly evil.
Yep, just humans wanting to go back to being terrible so they can fix things “on their own”

That probably annoyed Rick more than them being prehistoric Nazis or secretly making humans docile before being slaughtered for meat would have.
My favourite part of the episode was when the dinosaurs gave Rick the improved portal gun and called out how impractical it was for the portals to have green swirls that don’t show where you are going.
Rick doesn't need to see where he's going cause (at least in his mind) he's perfect and knows where he's going without the visuals cause he's just that smart

There are a few advantages to not being able to see through. Rick has used portals to create traps, lose pursuers, and send other people places (possibly against their will). He would have less control if others could see where he was creating a portal to.

The most important part of the episode was the theme of suicide.
There's a human who asks what to do if you want to kill yourself, and the dino says "yeah, don't do that." but later the dinosaurs prepare to kill themselves because despite all their advanced tech and altruistic intention, they genuinely believe getting rid of themselves is the best option. Rick learned his lesson in this season's first episode, and choose not to kill himself fighting Rick Prime, and stay with Morty. If Rick wanted to leave and go portal hopping, he would have.
He's not gonna shout about it, but he's Family Rick, and he's here for it.
See you say that but don’t forget the parasite flashbacks where rick regularly tortures morty, his favorite family relative
@@DuskLegend Rick probably has Avoidant Personality disorder. Its a fun condition where all a person's traumas get together and make their own special trauma.
Rick hates himself the most, because he is empathetic and had his heart repeatedly destroyed whenever he allows himself to show love. If he's raising Morty to live in a multiverse that has taken so much away, of course he'd torture him until he became Cronenberg World Jerry.
Rick's larger arch here is he understands his spite and the dino's martyrdom are two sides of the same coin, so he gives the Dinosaurs something to spite.
It's beautiful, really.

In all these years, despite knowing he's on a TV show, I think this was the first time Rick has said 'welcome back!' and meant it.

I think the fact that these next four episodes don't appear in the season 6 trailer is a great indicator. Season 5's trailer didn't use any clips from the last 3 episodes, and that was clearly done so that they'd all be a surprise for us, and I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say they're pulling something similar here.

probably because they haven't done anythng? I thinks it's pretty clear by now is that they don't really plan these things in advance. I don't think that the ending of seson 5 the writers were like "And then, space dinosaurs will fix the rift"
I noticed the theme of the season is Rick's total loss of control so far, and desires to be a God like being. Episode 2 he's a messiah, 3 wasn't really an episode about him, 4 he's lost control of his alter ego to his granddaughter, 5 he wants to control fate, 6 he constantly refers to himself as a "God being."
He has constantly refered about himself as a god since season one "I am a good, I am Dr Who in this universe" etc, there are countless times
@@alenasenie6928 I agree that isn't the best example. but there are still strong talking points for that argument: He tries to have the dinosaurs leave and not kill themselves. (which technically is trying to control them) Then it backfires when they fix something that they know he would rather deal with himself, and by force taking away his control of the situation.
We also see themes like that in other episodes; like when Morty asks about the portal gun and he puts it off because he wants to be in control of when he fixes it.
Ultimately he fixes it out of spite, in a last-ditch attempt to gain back control against the dinosaurs (then rejecting their more advanced portal gun because he wasn't the one who made it and thus he wants to be in control of it).
While Rick has always had these characteristics, this season does make it a major focal point. it may not be fully intentional like "oh we're going to make this the THEME of the season" but it is one of the more prominent themes.

@@XXXXX8 as mentioned in this video, they're maybe trying to be more canonical. That doesn't mean you can have a constant barrage of canon. The theme of Rick wanting to re-establish his sense in God-like status really didn't fit a narrative where he is really a background character for the third episode. Shows and seasons do have themes that can be discussed, it's not just Rick & Morty. The season of course isn't over, and this is where I am speculating they may follow through with at the end of the season.

I can see the giant balloon rick happening, maybe prime rick comes and takes rick's place as the top dog, and the family has to try and persuade the planet into liking our rick again with protests and festivals
Yeah, at this point, the only one I can imagine being an actual clip is the one with Jerry wearing the haywire armor, but that's it lol.

I think Rick and Morty and Futurama overall share quite a bit of their DNA.
I'm just remembering the episode where Fry, Bender and the professor leave their universe behind arrive at a new identical one, kill their counterparts and end up living in the new universe. And all that without dimensional travel.

I mean, Rick has been called the smartest MAN in the universe and sometimes the smartest MAMMAL in the universe, both of which dinosaurs are not

I think its more about they being as smart as him, and the jokes around his insecurity with this are the funniest in the ep
Honestly at this point the show has gotten so out there with its plots that an episode where Dinos come back and are super intelligent isn’t that far for this show, not saying it’s bad since I enjoyed this episode, still debating on how I feel about the way they dealt with the portal fluid and rift
TBH, the portal fluid and rift situation depend on how they're planning to use those for future episodes. If it is just an erasure of the issues, that's a huge problem. But, they might also be building towards something with it. I agree with the premise that the writers are messing with us.
I was expecting a Dr who reference to close the breach (the 11th doctor, Matt Smith sealed with one thing like that)

@@Chrisfrrr I’m not hating though, I literally said “not saying it’s bad since I enjoyed this episode” there are people that dislike this show WAY more than I ever have. I’ve loved the show for most of its run.
A thing I enjoy: The dinosaurs aren't really a surprise, since in Rickshank Redemption he's called specifically "The smartest mammal in the universe."
Like, it's probably just an ego thing with the bugs, but it's fun to think that they knew about the dinosaurs, and probably had some sort of bureaucratic process set up for when they arrive on account of the meteor.
I would love to see Rick being so angry about not fixing that hole himself, that he just open's it up again to do it

You did that incredible breakdown of the view from halfway down right? That is hands down one of my favorite videos on CZcams. It was so illuminating. The show is so good that you can understand the feeling and emotion behind a lot of what goes on without needing to understand the symbolism behind it all but once you understand it the episode becomes that much better. I didn't think watching a CZcams video would be able to actually improve the viewing experience of my favorite show but watching your video really did make subsequent watches better. That's a pretty cool ability to have and to share with people. Like a buff to the entertainment value stat.

I would need to see, because it can be a non mistake if there is a separation, you can print 2 book pages per A4 page, I have also seen books that are made in landscape, so it is not necessarily an error, even if it was intended as an error, the writers might not have seen that kind of book.

Based on the ending of this episode, I guess we're not gonna get a resolution to the ending of the last season, and not seeing what other universes will be like where Rick isnt the smartest being inside of it. I feel robbed.
Yeah I hope this isn't the writers going back to being total sarcastic assholes about serializing stuff to where it just goes further than just meta jokes to the point its infuriating
In a way, though, this episode proved one thing: that Rick isn't even the smartest being in THIS universe. His narcissism has led him to believe he's the ultimate power in the multiverse, but he didn't even know about the dinosaurs. We've been seeing Rick from his own point-of-view, because it's his show, but clearly he isn't the all-powerful god that he believes himself to be.
Nah they're totally doing it. Just watch the season 6 episode 7 preview.

You just saw an episode where he is not the smartest being, the central finite curve was erased in the previous season finale, in this season premiere they went back to one dimension in the curve, but then they hopped, this dinosaurs are a single universe beings, so, they are just in this universe, one they hopped into after the central finite curve was out, so, they are in an universe where Rick is not the smartest being.
They are now in a universe where rick isnt the smartest being, the dinosaurs were smarter, im actually excited to see more stuff like this
I wracked my brain trying to figure out who the female dinosaur was in the episode and just couldn’t until Lisa Kudrow’s name showed up in the end credits. One of the other Dinos is obviously Roiland, but I had the feeling the third was Thomas Middleditch? He sounds a lot like Terry Opposites to me. But I don’t remember seeing his name in the end credits.
I kept questioning where I heard that voice before and towards the end remembered Wanda the Owl from Bojack horseman

I think the Jerryboree thing could work if you interpret as the rocks being sold to our Rick
I think it's interesting, we've seen Rick fail multiple times to be "the smartest man in the universe" this season, he gets the job done but it's still interesting to think about:
-He was saved by Space Beth.
-Couldn't convince a part of Morty to leave with him.
-Night Summer actually beats Rick by showing he is unable to accommodate others.
-There's probably some argument for the fortune cookie episode, like how Rick was pretty much outmanoeuvred until the final fight or that he had to use someone else's tech against them because his wasn't well equipped for the senario.
-This episode with the dinos.
Might just be looking for stuff that isn't there but the Night Family and Dinos are definately strong candidates.

I think the writers realised that the whole "Smartest man in the universe" can never fail thing was ruining the show
I kind of feel like that there is going to be a family vs anti family story at the ending if the season, night summer, Rick prime, evil morty, Space Beth, and maybe a version of jerry.
That question was answered for me in the transformer families episode when Rick said "We can do whatever we want, we're too big to fail."
when rick fixes the portal tech was the absolute funniest part of the episode, but it was fun all around. Honestly this season is great imo
Blows my mind that this show is currently being written by people who like and respect celebrities. Not an ounce of counter-culture left in this show. Rick actually spoke the words "Tune into this year's Oscars."
i love how they used this episode to basically remind us we’re out of the central finite curve, and thus, rick is not necessarily the smartest man in every universe he visits. he “fixes” portals, but to what end? either he rebuilt the curve or forced it back together with glue and chewing gum. does this mean rick prime has likely re-figured out portal travel too? all these questions, and a hilarious episode !! i love that the dinosaur ladies weren’t evil, and that rick fixed the portal tech, not because morty asked but because he was annoyed someone else did it for him.

This show has just gotten better and better every year and this season is no exception
IMO season 1 and 2 were the best, season 3 was decent then season 4 was pretty bad then season 5 was okay. Season 6 is definitely redeeming the show.

I loved this episode so so much, it was just hilarious! The twist with the commit was just gold, and I loved how the dinosaurs kinda just turned in to petty assholes after Rick got them to resort to violence
The different ways the other planets thought the dinosaurs looked had me rolling.
Since the Central Finite Curve, which supposedly kept portal travel limited to universes where Rick was smartest person alive, no longer exists I would love to see some mort serious threats to Rick appear as he is no longer in a safe bubble.
I think it would be cool if Rick Prime appears in the finale, and it looks like there’s going to be a climactic ending, but one of those worse threats kills Rick Prime instead.

Im really loving this season. Every episode has been so good so far. With them focusing more on character exploration episodes and feels like they are leaning right back to the fun scifi prompts which I would argue are as good as the first seasons. This is not the funniest the show has been but I have been laughing a lot more than the previous two seasons (which I liked) which is very exciting. Really looking forward to what the remaining episodes have in store for us
ngl this channel has become my notification that a new R&M episode is out. as someone who doesn't pay for streaming I would literally miss out on this season if it wasn't for these analysis. that being said, season 6 gave us what has become yet another one of my favourite episodes.

I'd love to see the interdimensional cable, have a part where they watch Justin talk (both in character and out of character), describing the show. Morty being upset, while Rick tells him not to think about to much, or he will just enter an Inception loop (akin to Rick's cars battery in a sense).
Or maybe they actually meet, hang out and get help from Justin in some sort of 3D-2D mix

the trailer for next week seems like something definitely is afoot, its showing footage from previous episodes with one memory rick doesn't recognise when summer says shes pregnant you even see him look around in confusion. AND we haven't seen any of the footage from the opening credits yet either
Someone pointed out in an earlier episode, jerry brings out and extra plate to the table( although everyone else already had a plate) . Maybe something, maybe nothing.

I think some of the "canonical" notes roiland was talking about were all the deep cuts and references to stuff from older seasons. Like the sleepy gary and jerryboree references for example. Maybe we'll see more of rick prime this season but all the deep cuts have been rewarding already

It just has good vibes. I love that song they sing when the Dinos are causing world peace. Ironic considering the previous episode (I think) “Night Family” had such a dark tone to it. I really enjoyed these two episodes the most this particular season.

It doesn't have to make your theory untrue. He could be experiencing things that all Jerrys experience. Like Vat of Acid episode: "EVERY Rick has a Vat of Acid!"
Definitely a start to the cannon. A major thing that evil Morty took was Rick being the smartest in the universe He destroyed the central finite curve. This is possibly a jab at Rick having to deal with other rick like people or smarter that weren't part of the central finite curve. Finding dimensions that may be more aware of portal travel. I'm excited!!
In regards to the second part of S6 I think that Summer's child is Prime Rick's kid or Summers birthday episode will involve the Cthulu creature from the intro chasing them

I do think they are doing a big finale with how canon heavy the season has been regarding the growth of each member of the Smith family. Plus the fact that they included Rick Prime as a new possible threat with him returning to Morty's original universe makes me think he would play a major role in the season finale in some way. Or maybe he will be similar to Evil Morty and will have a long panned out story
This had to be my favorite episode of season 6 just because it felt like good ol’ Rick and Morty adventure and it was just really funny.
The best part about this episode for me was how it opened my eyes to why humans can be so self-destructive. Every time Americans are arguing in circles about gun control or global warming I could not understand why it was so hard to move in a direction that makes life easier for everyone with little to no drawbacks. Then, this episode shows how it feels having someone smarter than you smuggly fixing your problems. Even if they genuinely are doing out of kindness and altruism, human pride just doesn't swallow it well.
And beyond the pride factor, they illustrate how it's scary for people to have less problems. I actually experienced this personally. A few years ago, I got a new job at a large company making $20,000 more than I was in my old job for doing easier work. I went from crunching the numbers on how to move out my apartment to buying a house with money leftover. I went from going to sleep wondering how to put a dent in the technical debt filling my backlog to having none of those worries in a well-organized and flexible work schedule where *I* make the entire backlog.
Eventually, that dead space was filled by existential dread from nagging thoughts coming to fill the void. I'd start thinking about mortality, all the ways I could die unexpectedly with regrets, how my parents are inching towards the grave everyday and there's no way to stop it, would it be better for me to die and leave my wife alone or to go through mourning her if she died first, what types of afterlife may exist, would it be better to cease existing or to enter some unknown form of afterlife, about how I'll never see my dead relatives again if there's no afterlife and regreting not spending more time with them, and it just gets darker and darker as time goes on. Oddly enough, I was slightly happier when I was slightly worse off and too busy to think about much at all.
I didn't connect my experiences to climate change deniers until this episode. I'm not sure if they did it intentionally, but it really is a brilliant of writing staff if they did purposely bridge that gap while making me laugh the entire time.
the portal ending was so nostalgic
It reminds me of the basketball future man episode where they fix time.
"your boos mean nothing I've seen what makes you laugh" the moment I heard that line in the heist episode I knew they were trolling us
I'm gonna build a 19 story 1 x 1 apartment on MY SCOTLAND PROPERTY.
Season 5 so far has been one of my favorites, probably even surpassing season 3. It has such season 2 vibes with the new level of writing and animation. I'm hoping this is just a showcase of what the show's capable of since they've finally seemed to hit their stride.
It is important to mention, in the context of the dinosaurs and other entities that are on par or higher with Rick’s power, is because the central finite curve is destroyed.

Episodes 6 and 1 so far are my favorites of this season.
I think the dino's fixing the rift is kind of a band-aid on a bullet wound fix. Things look fine right now but that fix isn't going to hold for long and who knows what'll happen when the central finite curve breaks again.
in episode 3, it was hinted at that rick could have fixed portal travel at any time. Morty says to rick "you gotta fix the portal travel!" andmrick says "Oh my god morty, you asking me about it makes me want to do it less!"
so rock is really just unmotivated to do it for some reason.
i guess he likes being in control and he decided he'll do it when he feels like it and he always does things halfassed, putting the minimum amount of effort required, such as with the dog helmet and the butter robot and the inter dimensional goggles he gives to beth and jerry and summer while him and morty watch tv. he could have made 3 sets, but he put themleast amount of effort in and made only 1 for the three of themto have to share and fight over.
this control thing might be why it annoyed him so much when the dinosaurs started fixing things and doing it better than him.
This was basically how the AI took over in I Robot. They didn't actually hurt anyone, they just gave humans what they wanted, received more responsibility, and eventually were just in charge of the whole planet.

I’d argue 1 and 3 still have canonical finales. Season 1’s finale introduces a lot of the famous side characters and right before it; they had the first evil morty episode. Season 3 had canonical stuff, it was just with the family, wrapping up the divorce arc
I genuinely love this season , it's been a while since I have been hyped about a new episode coming out and this season makes me hyped for each of them . Yes the concepts aren't as big and deeply thought as the first seasons but they still are a lot of fun + I love the fact that they are actually genuinely developing each character , constantly above everyone god Rick was funny for a while but I highly prefer feeling like he can actually lose , and seeing him more openly care about his family .
i am very worried, but i waa hope the seasons been so good, we dont need it all reset, please.

I agree, “the comeback” is underrated. I discovered it on a virgin America flight between Chicago and San Francisco, and after the first 3 episodes I purchased HBO Now so I could finish it. Wasn’t disappointed.
