I don't know if you noticed yet, but in the left corner, left of the !, you have a button with which you can undo orders. Handy to cancel the Oracle for instance so it appears in your list of possible buildings again.

Was the hex you chose for you settler on fresh water?

It doesn't matter in Old World. Though, being on a river does make it easier to have a commercial connection to other cities on the same river. But, if you're thinking of it like Civilization where it has an impact on housing, there's no such concept here.

No. You can kill settlers and workers. They have health like regular units, but they can’t attack or counter attack.
