I have never played magic the gathering, in my mid 40’s and wanting to learn how to play. You’re videos make it easy to understand.
21:25 "That's for later" says the blue player and a chill goes up everyone else's spine.
More like 21:20 if yu want to modify your comment
I'm loving this series! I'm learning so much and I can't wait until I get my own cards.
keep up the great work!
For anyone getting into MTG i also suggest Spellslingers with Day9
For those other mtg players. When white player attacks green player with lifelink and green player blocks with creature that is enchanted with dwindle, wouldn't white player not gain the life because dwindle would destroy the dino as soon as green player declared it as a blocker before damage can happen?
You're correct. Good catch.
I noticed that too, you are correct
mastermew correct
lifelink triggers whenever a creature deals damage, at all, to anything or anyone, not just when it damages a creature.
the cards say that the creature still block the damage, so damages are applied before creature is destroyed
Yeah! I'm so looking forward to that Commander episode! \o/
Intrigued for the Commander video. Love the videos, but also mention Legacy and Modern formats for future reference!
And I hope y'all use the Commander 2019 expansion!
you guys seem to have a lot of fun...wish I could join in of the battles. keep up the good world
Becca is 🔥
How about a 4v4 common deck. When alpha came out we had one deck to play so everyone drew from the same pile. A variant was we all bought a beta booster mixed them together with 15 land.. whoever won kept the deck.
You need to do more of these I want to learn how to play Magic 1993
39:46 the only sensible sentence of this video comes from the Flavour text shouter... "I am the Blue-shell of this game"
I would like more a format like spellslingers to really know what's happening for each player or at least brief shots of the board state
Also at 39:09 that card is a five drop not a six drop.
Does anybody else realize that dwindle is an aura? The affects do not go away after the turn is over... It's making me want to scream!
She never mentioned Modern or Legacy when she talked about formats.
Shaddy Boi it's sponsored by wotc who want everyone to play standard.
This is a cute video, but I am not sure I would call this advanced.
It's def not advanced. Most of them are still in the basic section of learning and don't how know to attack properly, they should also know what trample or first strike is before moving to advanced rules. Maybe they will have an EXPERT video that let's me know how to use a spell card! (Hard sarcasm) This video finally explains some rules just when something happens to come up in this really drawn out game and try to explain to the players and they barely understand. This shouldn't be a "How to play" but "let's watch people figure the game out?" i don't think I saw any advanced combat or play styles out of this. I'm sorry but get some people who have played the game before calling anything advanced in your title
Cool, Viashions are still a race in MtG. I remember those fast lizard people from Jamuraa way back when. And why ban reading flavor text? It's almost like banning to enjoy the pictures on the cards.
I started watching because I wanted to learn advanced magic not basic magic... can a creature be declared as a blocker then use an activated ability to sacrifice itself before damage? Thus nullifying the attack?
i expect at the end of this series for two almost pro or actual pro players to go head to head with each other with kinda busted decks to ACTUALLY show that side of magic too
When Erica left the game the enchantment had to go way at 48:53
W-wheres Day9?
1:54 standard exists so wizard can sell you the same cards every few years.
Man I feel old with all these MtG players calling for sleeves. There was a time before then and we played the game ... and we actually used CDs for music then too
man I feel old.
OMG, I've got to go find some more videos with Erica. Or is it Erika?
Erika
Give Becca props for doing this. Takes a lot of patience.
I was thinking the exact same thing lol. (Especially with Hector lol)
You should get some MTG pros to come on the show or collaborate with some MTG CZcamsrs so you can direct people towards resources to utilize and a great community to be a part of.
If i am not mistaken an enchantment controlled by another player should be removed when player dies? No? The Jaguar was still enchanted for a turn, for nothing.
Yo
Right. Hector is a __Vorthos__ through and through.
Wouldn't Erica's White enchantment have been removed as soon as she died, allowing Adam to have destroyed one of Gina's artifacts? i mean, he won anyway, but that's true right?
That's why the saying goes if you don't have enchantment removal use player removal. (so yes)
Yes it would have because the controller is no longer in the game
Mmmmmm commander format is best format!!!
This isn't commander.
SLEEVE. THOSE. CARDS!!
there only planeswalker decks literally the sleeves are worth more than the cards xD
KennyViTran, they drafted these cards. SLEEVE THEM!
These are PW decks, Kenny is right.
No. These cards are worth less than a penny.
why would you get fresh players to draft magic. drafting is fair for everyone but you need to have some knowledge of magic to draft and i know that 3 of the players haven't been on here player so assuming they are completely new to magic. drafting would put off a new player.
For future reference, guys, when Erika died, her Pacifism/Luminous Bonds enchantment she had on green dude's creature would have exited the game with her. Therefore he would have had no need to cast Reclamation Sage to destroy her enchantment. When a player dies, all permanents they control leave the game and any permanents she gained control of from another player are exiled (unless the card controlling it states otherwise).
❤youuuuuu
Lol at people complaining about sleeves those decks are worth like $5 at most and WOTC gave them to GNS for free as it is a sponsored video. Sleeves are a waste. Probably really put you guys on edge when they play the 2018 commander decks next episode with no sleeves.
It's not that the cards are worth anything, it's that when you keep playing with them, they develop tell wear marks that lets you know what they are just by looking at the back. Not that these players are at that point yet, but that's why some people insist playing decks with sleeves.
Plus you can shuffle a hell of a lot better with sleeves
Plus, if you drop an enchantment on an opponent's creature, it is very clear to whom it belongs when the sleeves are different colors.
You really think these youtube people are gonna keep playing them? They probably went in a bag or drawer or the trash when they finished shooting this.
Remember, kids. Reading the card explains the card.
Yes but flavour text will win matches
give DayJ
I've learned so much from watching this channel, even the mulligans
Live Phive where can I watch the mulligans???
once again please ask Day9 to judge for you guys.
Here's a funny vid for those looking to learn the basics: czcams.com/video/ZixWqaGJVQs/video.html
These people... These fuckin people...
Helloooooooo Becca
32:04 ....NOOOOO!
That will be all.
When white player died her card on green would of left table when she died
They are all new players for the most part.
They are just exposing the game to people that otherwise would NEVER learn about MtG.
It's not pro level MtG. You can watch Spellslingers for that.
There are a nearly infinite number of shows to watch for pro-level play like The Tolerian Academy, Game Knights, Command Zone, etc.
So if you are a very experienced player, there is nothing here for you. If you've never played or understood MtG, this CAN be a gateway that increases the interest enough to learn how to play the game by the rules, the details, strats, and then they will sleeve cards. Otherwise, just let it go. This is why new people don't get into the game, because they are treated badly by people that pretend they never were new to the game also. Everybody makes mistakes, forgets things, and then they learn.
So if you are just here to complain, go kick rocks.
FINALLY SOMEONE GETS IT
A million thumbs up!
Blue and red really ought to focus on green and white because green and white tend to be stronger in the long game than red and blue. Really playing mono red in a four man game seems less that optimal. There's a huge difference between getting down 20 life before someone gets to powerful and getting down 45 lives before someone gets to powerful.
Then again I hear mono red is very strong in m19.
I think you are messing with the table size. The players can't see each other's cards in play so combat is taking a lot longer. Please use a smaller table. It will be better for the players and for the show.
Playing with no sleeves is crazy loo
Players divided in a way that they cant see each others cards. Just disturbing.
why doesn't Becca get in the game
The editing isn't QUITE spellslingers level, showing the forest card(oooh) when he casts oaken XD
And sleeve those damn cards!
TheCrosshare I think this is just a recording of a live stream, unedited. The forest was a live thing lol
Why would you bother putting sleeves on these?
Sleeves are for pussies
What's a "calvary" drillmaster (33:47). The word is caValry - as in a soldier who is mounted! Gees, that's not even related to being a noob at Magic. Lol.
I know they're all new to the game so leniecy is due, but it's still so painful to watch this without a real judge on site
I'd like to recommend that if there is a time limit for filming these videos, it might be a good idea to have at least one experienced player who can do all of the basic things quickly (i.e. untap, tap mana before casting a spell, doesn't ask what the difference between an instant and sorcery is) so the game goes faster. A previous video that had one experienced player (knight deck) vs the beginner was perfect. For this game, there should have been 2 experienced players and 2 beginners, with 1 experienced player on each side of the table, since the table is shaped so spaced out. Nobody wants to see a video end in the middle of the game, and it's very stressful to hear Becca continuously rush the players to end the game before the filming time is up.
Also, this was a free for all by 4 beginning players, not a video about advanced combat. An example of advanced combat is any of the spellslinger videos.
That tables seems terrible to play on because you're sitting too far apart to see your opponents cards...
Spellslingers is way better. Cannot replace Day9. Long live Sean Plott
booster draft does NOT level the playing field at all. if anything it absolutely reveals who is the more talented players.
No day9 no magic
nemesis7884 agreed
Gina seemed to be good at emoting while playing. Keep her on (if she's willing and continuing to enjoy) and keep swapping the others around until you get a group who are fun to watch, I'd say.
Day[9] and Spellslingers is better, but also more expensive. Real editing, special effects, mid-game commentary that needs to be filmed, etc. It probably takes them 3-4 times as long to film and 20 times as long to edit and add the after-effects and help information. Probably, you won't be able to recreate that experience here, even if you had Day[9] on, simply because editing helps cut down on downtime and adds the chance to add in more character by pulling people out to talk with about the game between turns.
But, given the right crew, this could probably become at least half as good as Spellslingers if, like I said, they keep hunting until they get a group that's sufficiently good at bantering with each other and keeping it lively.
Did Hector think this was a Co-op game? sigh...
"Because I love every card equally"??? No, no, no, NO, HECTOR! Put your frikkin' lands in the right place! It's for clarity for the other player(s)!!
Erica is the most beautiful person on the entire planet. Holy.
Well, I don't think she's holy but, yes, I agree, she's gorgeous. ;-)
Can't read words though. Cavalry at 33:47
players nice but diff host plz
Why start mid-game like that? This is a little annoying...
I would dislike this video, but I encourage mtg exposure even if it's not the best
probably for new players cause the start of the game can be really boring and with the planewalker decks nothing really interesting can happens in the first few turns.
Also, you saw how long it took to finish even with the part they did prior to the video. They would not have finished remotely close to the end time for the stream.
SECOND
do none of these people actually know how to play, including the host?
DaigonAEM I don't think they do
They paid the wrong people.
I think the host has only been playing for a few months & she's 'trying' to teach noobs 😂😂😂 noobs teaching noobs so sad
Shawn Spidle what's sad about it? That is how most people learn to play a game. They sit down with friends who are new and excited about the game themselves. They figure out the rules on their own. Sure mistakes are made but that is kitchen table magic which is the majority of magic played.
Kent Goertzen ah one of those toxic things.
so cute so clueless
I've watched a few of these and the host seems like she's straight-up not having a good time
soy
If you guys have a magic "expert" behind the scenes, you need to have them step out of the shadows and actually help. There are so many mis-taught rules, it's like you're teaching people to play a separate game.
I enjoy these videos, yet the intros still throw me off. The number of players used to mirror the CZcams subscribers, but has been switching between 1,600k and 1,700k with no rhyme or reason. Now 1,650k? While the actual number is well higher by now. What is going on in that editing room?
im not gonna lie i only know what this account is because i watch the guild
I never saw a bunch of people so boring and uninteresting. I came to learn rules and i just couldn't endure their tries to be fun
Non sleeved cards? Booo
No shit they're not going to use card sleeves when _the entire fucking point of the video_ is to show off the product to people who might not be familiar with it. Gotta get that iconic cardback on camera as much as possible for brand recognition.
You can use sleeves that copy regular card backs
I've noticed that lately this is a request WotC is making of content creators, probably a marketing thing.
I want to play beautiful girls in magic so lucky
These people are propably nice people and all, but this is just painful to watch. And this from someone who has played mtg once 6 years ago and a few more times in the late 90s. Here's a tip: Read your cards and plan your turn while the others are playing. Then just adjust your plan if you draw something useful. Sorry for being so rude. I apologize.
Ok everybody when you are not about to play a card don't tell everyone that you have it like wtf these people are stupid their is a lot of things they do that is incorrect.
The first Anarky they are just learning to play and Becca is not pro player or judge mistakes will happen.
They did this three times: Adam and Hector both searched the top five cards of their library for a coloured card which they had to reveal, while Gina went to play an instant then decided not to while she was halfway through reading it out - Becca revealed the card to explain why Gina wasn't playing it during her main phase.
Do we really need the handlebaring? Like.... This says advanced.... Why do we have the most interviening judge in the world?
Because its still geared towards beginners
i do get what you mean. But most beginners arent special. if you get my drift, this is geared towards 5 year olds. not beginners.
The lady moderating these makes SO many mistakes... Not to mention the stuff that just goes right over her head... They should've hired a judge for these.
Really annoying when stuff is pointed out that are just factually wrong. Like "Artifacts are always colorless" or "...land card doesn't count as that color" when there are colored artifacts and...dryad arbor.
Generalizations can be a pretty useful tool for concise communication.
Nothing in magic is absolute. There is always an exception to any rule, but 90% of the time those statements are correct.
SLEEVE THOSE CARDS PLEASE!
thecx why? They're brand new cards so they don't have any wear and none of them are valuable.
Chris B cards are easier to shuffle with sleeves, you don't put that wear and tear on them in the first place, and personally I can't play with unsleeved cards
thecx they most definitely aren't easier to shuffle with sleeves. And why the concern about wear on cards that will be used once or twice for a CZcams show then never used again. They aren't playing with moxen and OG duals here lol
This looks like noobs try to be competitive
This was fun... no sleeves.... poor cards
Ok yea Please sleeve those cards, that's atrocious to see!
These cards arent worth anything.
No card is really worth anything but that doesn't mean don't sleeve them. do you just not sleeve the crappy cards in your deck or you just want the actual cards that matter for you deck to get bent and shat on? It's also just nicer to see visually.
@@a7xruler yeah because im going to waste sleeves on 0.02 cent cards XD
None of these norms want to play, really. Bit of a waste of time.
this is painful to watch. only thing this series is teaching me is that becca is no fun to play games with and teaching new players with videos of new players is a terrible idea. sorry guys.
How to play M:tG - Don't. Stop it. Get some help.
