Would love to see him playing with Day[9]!
my first thought was why didn't day9 do this...it would have been epic :D
I can't even begin to imagine the enthusiasm and excitement.
It was great even without day9
But with real standard or modern decks. Not the garbage starter decks sponsored by WOTC.
PLEASE THIS!!! ^^^^
JGL is the man. “Moxes are made to be played, it is a game right”. Much respect to him knowing the true appreciation behind the game.
KayRicks 0517 easy to say that when he can afford a mint condition one any time he wants
it's almost like having millions in throw away money allows you to be really chill about damaging couple of thousand $ cards
Couple of Gs a drop in the bucket for him
they can afford special effects but they don't have some extra sleeves to use???
They're only playing with it, it's not gonna damage it that much
He's such a blue player. "Yea your deck is fast and probably going to win". *Maintains a deep smile as he gains more board control*
Ban islands.
LMAO
I demand Joseph play in the Command Zone.
THIS WOULD BE SOOO AWESOME
i realize Im pretty randomly asking but does anybody know of a good website to stream new movies online ?
@Zev Allen i watch on flixzone. You can find it on google :)
@Jace Kyle Definitely, have been watching on flixzone for months myself =)
@Jace Kyle Thanks, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) I appreciate it!!
I have always loved JGL, but knowning that he is a D&D and Magic player takes my appreciation for him to the next level.
Donald Marter mad respect for him. And for him to be humble enough to show and talk about his enjoyment of D&D and Magic, makes it awesome.
That is a real nice guy! one of us ;)
I played d&d before playing mtg. So I can connect with this vid 100%
Because wizards didn’t set this up and give them the cards at all. He for sure just had these boxes of cards/s
Yea levitt is a boss since 3rd rock
This dude is playing moxes and dual lands just like nothing and makes me feel like the game went sick with all these Top 9 madness.
This guy was playing pure innocent magic like a pro. Enjoyed watching the game like a kid!!!
Erika did a really good job. She's very kind and engaging. And JGL comes across as very genuine and warm. Cool to watch, was a great dynamic.
Sleepovers, weezer and magic..that's a 90s spell right there!
When he talks about playing these games as a kid it made me forget he was a child actor for a minute. That kind of shows you the power of these games, if they can allow a kid in that busniess to actually be a kid.
It also means he could afford all the cards he wanted with that sweet sweet angels in the outfield moola lol...
1. Pulling Mox Ruby out of sleeves and PUTTING IT IN A DECK!!!
2. Playing with liquids ON THE TABLE.
Oh that was so amazing and painful to watch at the same time.
Te highlight of this show definetly
The Mox! Terrifying to see it in the deck. Please don't!
#2. Soo #2. When playing back in the day, we had special places for the liquids.... hence why my vintage cards still exist today!
Someone spilled a drink on my sleeved Stormbreath Dragon. First mythic I pulled when I got back into Magic after 20 years away. Ruined the card 😭
@@martyschriver ouch!
JGL for Jace when they make the movie.
Travis7060312 I can get behind that
Holy shit that would actually be perfect other then the fact I don't think he even knows who Jace is lol
fucken perfect
@@dcluvspie5777 He doesn't have to know who Jace is. Actors get offered roles from franchises they're not familiar with all the time. If they decide to take the role, they immerse themselves in the lore of that franchise and their character's part in it in particular and try to play off that. He already has a history with MtG, so he doesn't have to learn any of the basics anymore, he just needs to catch up to where modern MtG has gotten to now. Not that big a deal. Actors are used to having to do research into their characters and he would make a great Jace.
came here to comment this. i CANNOT think of anyone better.
This is the slowest game of vintage I've ever seen. I love it.
Format is called old school, not vintage
My god she played with his unsleeved mox ruby
I saw it somewhere at a value of 1875 and 5400 dollars
I bet he can just order another one if it were damaged.
And it was beautiful. It's like we went back in time to a simpler time of Magic. Back when it was just a game and people didn't thinking about the monetary value of cards. Just kids on a playground tapping Black Lotuses on pavement.
Shows you how differently older players value their Moxes. For a lot of them, they're valuable for the memories and for being a game piece.
That’s assuming it’s a 10. Odds are it’s 8. Max nine
He tapped his Mox Saphire to play a Pirate Ship. This is some serious school-yard magic
This is the sweetest thing - just seeing JGL reliving all these happy memories and Erika vibing off that. I love it.
It's so cool to see a celebrity like this. He's super cool and isn't afraid to basically what a huge nerd or geek he was and is. It's awesome to know that not everyone famous is so stuck up, and you can really tell that JGL is in his element.
This is why I love him and am a huge fan of his. His acting is top notch, but his personality and his energy is so awesome and welcoming.
Please god let him be in Critical Role
Seconded
it would nice , for starters , if Troy Baker joined them ...
@@vanphoenix676 Have you seen the CelebriDnD one shot from a few months ago? He's in it!
@@vanphoenix676 He played with them. Just not the original second campaign, but in a Warcraft One Shot.
@@GrandiaKnight oh , thanks . I actually never finished watching that episode .
As a Tim, I enjoyed this episode immensely :)
same
*in blustering assertiveness* "GREETINGS, TIM THE ENCHANTER"
Timothy Thompson does that mean u kill people slowly lol
feelsgoodman.jpg
My friend had the most annoying Tim deck, it was just like Gordon's haha.
I love how genuinely excited and nostalgic he is. Thanks for letting us witness this special moment.
The incidental level of value in his "fun decks" is crazy! So cool to be finding out that such people play Magic
Please play with and against Day[9]!!
Don't play Day9
DON'T.
the last thing we need is gravity noping out the window and the studio going aride doing a backflip mid game and you playing half through the camera upside down.
Don't see why it would be so appealing to see Joseph on Spellslingers. Day(9) seems like a fun person but Spellslingers is not entertaining.
Quality of this content is beyond spectacular. I watch with great pleasure!
I‘m actually impressed that JGL still knows the ropes of MTG and he has some sick cards!
I loved seeing them embrace the nostalgia and the spirit of the GAME over the money. Yesss, unsleeve those moxes, and listen to the sound of control-freak nerd butts clenching and tears flowing free.
Irontiki No one is unsleeving my Alpha moxen.
@@jetcell4517 Oh no, I'm full villain on this one, unabashedly enjoying the suffering of others while mildy approving of someone else's actions. Your disapproval is likely warranted, if impotent. Have a nice day! :P
This brought back soooo many memories. I still can't believe I sold all my cards for $250 and a ride home from school for the rest of the year during my senior year of high school. lol
Stellar interview again, Erika, well done! :)
@@Costone90 I disagree
This is such a genuine interview. Sometimes I see celebrities talk about having done something nerdy but its clear they probably maybe played it for an hour or something at best. So its refreshing to see someone who was absolutely a nerd.
I love this, seeing these old cards just reminds me of when i was younger, sitting at the table n watching n learning to play magic with beta starters, then finally buying in when urzas saga released.. alot of nostalgia
Interviewer was fantastic, but I can't help notice they really missed an opportunity not having someone who knows the old decks to reminisce with JGL
On the other hand it's cool to see someone experience the classics for the first time no?
I mean how often does that happen nowadays? Also it ensures that the complex cards get explained for newbies like her and me too.
@@Rocknoob49 For the rest of us really old farts , it was really fun to remember and see the old classic cards again. Soo many memories, it was about this time i fell in love with black and started my lifelong hate/love relationship with blue.
Baktillus while you have a point, In this interview having a new player and old player didn't really bring a ton to the table aside from a few quips like "that's cool" or "yeah some of these cards are still in the new decks, but the art has changed"
It's not that cool for a new player to experience a classic deck if they don't have enough knowledge to see how the deck functions. In particular, the burst damage from Atog was never used. She has lethal the turn before she dies. As someone who ran both decks, it was disappointing to see.
At the same time, he pulls off a kill that would now be described as memeing. So it's funny to see how the subculture has developed.
For reals. Watching Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Joey G.L.) play with those old decks gave me flash backs to playing with my friends in high school during our lunch break. When he started talking about Sengir Vampire and some of the old cards it took me back to the art work that use to be on those cards.
Joe seems like a really genuine person. Super relatable, aside from the rich actor part.
Incredible video, I took so much from it. More like this please. I learned that eye contact does not have to be scary and that it's okay to look away.
Neat! Stoked to see Erika in a video, as always, and it was magical seeing Joe reminisce about his early days of D&D and Magic.
Just tell me. What's in the box!
WHAT'S IN THE BOX?!
Really random but a very young Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in a River Runs through it with Brad Pitt.
A Mox in a Box
I loved watching him casually tap three dual lands to cast Tim 😂😂
I paused just as they drew cards. Absolutely love watching him re-experience this . Command Zone!! Get JGL!
Loved the “pinger” Tim deck!!! This was awesome!!! Thank you both.
What unique person, Joseph! Last year he was on Bear Grylls, now playing Magic. Pretty cool dude!
😍😍 for both of them!
love this episode. this took me back to my childhood with seeing all his cards being played.
i started playing around the time revised came out. this episode was a pure nostalgia overload for me, so awesome to see all the old school cards and artwork again. i even had my own tim and artifact decks that were pretty similar to the ones used here, although without the moxes.
I’ve always liked JGL, awesome the learn he has a history with magic!
Nightmare! Amazing. I was a black player in 95 and it was my favorite at the time since mono color was the norm with my group.
Wow, what an amazing video. Really was a magic moment. We totally did not even know that Joseph Gordon-Levitt played magic! Thanks so much for capturing and sharing this, G&S!
OMG!! Taking me right back to the mid and late 90s with these decks. Perfect!
This was adorable and made me love JGL and Erika even more than I did before
Where is SEAN!?
Yeah they really missed the big point of this whole thing... you know, like including the face of MTG on this channel
was he not popular enough for this guest? :/ sad not so see him here
Depending on when this was shot, Sean was away the last 2 weekends with Twitch-con and Blizzcon. He also does not reside in LA so they have to fly him out, so depending on how this was put together, maybe didn't have the time.
Did he move back to Nebraska? Or Iowa or whatever? I stopped following
@@GeekTalkwithMerg No clue, All I know is that he mentioned flying out on friday, shooting spellslingers season 5 sat 8-20 and sun 8-17/20 then flying back.
This was so much fun to watch! :D Thank you!
I wish I still had all my old stuff!!! This was amazing seeing these cards and jgl playing magic it was great!!
I have an incredibly profound new respect for JGL now. I've always loved the guy anyway. Because we literally grew up together. In a metaphorical sense anyway. Our age is only a couple years apart and I grew up watching him on a show that is still one of my favorites to this day. I, of course, speak of 3rd Rock From The Sun. And to now know that during that time of his life, picturing him backstage between takes on set building and working on decks. Playing games. I have new respect. I wanted to be him as a kid... You rock, Joey G.L.!! 🤣
And there's definitely a difference between bury and remove from game. Bury is just an OG term for destroy, which just means the card goes to the graveyard. Remove from game is an OG term for exile. Which means it is removed altogether from game unless a card can specifically return another from exile. Now I want to know what his argument was and if he was really correct. 🤟🏻🤣
And a Mox Emerald on the first page :D
It's nice to see someone beside Day9. Really enjoyed the episode!
I don't even play Magic but this makes me want to go back to the building deck days in TCG! Having binders full of your favorite arts on the cards and trading back and forth was the best!
Joseph needs to be in Game Knights for a nice game of Commander! I’d love it
You can tell he really liked that deck from all the great lands and support cards he had in it. OG duals and Demonic Tutor! MANA DRAIN! I wonder how much that cost in the 90's?
That Atog deck was pretty cool. I know they weren't playing to win, but I think Erika probably could've won with some creative artifact munching. By the end, it looks like she got unlucky in drawing too many mouths to feed!
Roughly 30% what it costs now
@@alejandrorivas4585 that sounds close to being correct. i dont remember the cost of dal lands back when dark came out, but i remember inquest had black lotus listed at 200.00 back then if that helps.
Alejandro Rivas more like 5%.
@@alejandrorivas4585 I think that under 1% probably... most of the mox were around 20-30 in those times... and the dual lands even lower...
Erika definitely could have pumped the Atog at the end three times to bring him to 0 after he chose not to declare any blockers.
Save for those amazing rare cards, it was so nostalgic looking at his collection as I had so many of the same cards back in the day. I hadn't seen some of them in like 20 years. I think I got into the game about the same time that he did from the sound of it. Such a cool video.
I played alot of Magic when I was a teenager, back in the late '90s. Haven't played actual Magic for almost 20 years now... I forgot about most of those cards, this video brought old memories back to life!
What the hell happened to Sean huh?
I remember making what I thought as good decks, but then all my friends beat me up everytime. But I guess that is part of the learning process.
I love his decks! This gives me nostalgia of going against these kinds of decks. This is an awesome episode!
I used to play with all those old cards. This really takes me back... Great video!
“So we just appeared?”
Looper lol
Meta flashback.
Oh man I laughed pretty hard when he looks at the deck and says "Yah... Not the... Not the riffle shuffle..." 13:40
Wow! that was the coolest thing i watched since a LONG WHILE AGO!
Thank you guys bringing the show, thank you "Joey GL" for you being... you know... yourself! That was awesome and refreshing, definitely made my day :)
Awesome video - and wow is that an impressive collection, JGL!
Don't get me wrong, this video and interview are great but sean/day{9} better get to play with him in Spellslingers.
I think she had lethal, when he was at 10, she could have sacked 3 artifacts. made the 3 attacking atogs a 3/4, 4/5, and 3/4/ = 10 damage that he had to take to his face.
i dont think so because if she sacrificed an artifact to an atog, he would just tap a couple "tims" to kill that atog, killing it befor it got stronger.
or just block the atog she pumps up, but he did let them through for some reason so i guess yea she could have won but she should have had no chance given the state of the battlefield.
Oh MAAAAAN, you know what had me all nostalgic in this video? Erika talking about learning Magic on stream! I still have HydroSnail in my Steam friends list from back in the day :) It was so much fun watching her learn, and learning alongside her.
What an amazing video and truely magic moment..! You definitely earned my sub big time with this video single-handedly. Keep it up!
PS: Huge kudos for just playing that Mox unsleeved. Magic cards are meant to be played indeed and imo those Moxes should've reprinted a long time ago.
First time seeing your channel and I would like to point out how fantastic the conversion was and well Erika carried herself throughout. Very comfortable and relaxed - by the way I'm just pointing out what made this that much sweeter to watch and enjoy, so thank you.
According to the comments "someone was missing" but in this case I think you were the perfect person to host with Jo and ultimately the one that got me to sub.
This is why I've always been a fan of JGL. I have a lot of respect for someone who doesn't act like they know s**t but actually has the knowledge without pretending. People forget to rather ask the questions and use it as a conversational tool when talking with someone knowledgeable on the topic.
While I haven't seen any in these comments I would like to say that people should always be inclusive of their hobbys, etc. Never criticise someone who doesn't know or gets it wrong. A lot of people will rather be a d**k and end up pushing people away from that thing because they feel their knowledge makes them superior.
Anywho, great work and I look forward to continue watching this channels content.
Someone seriously needs to introduce JGL to the Old School format
Nice to see another well known celebrity who has his roots in d&d and magic! I always liked him as an actor, but it's refreshing to see him act like a kid again with his nostalgia over his "nerdish" past. Great video!
Wow, young Joey knew what he was doing! This was a joy to watch and I hope we get to see more of JGL!
great video :-)
the beautiful Erika really did a great job.
"I did have a really good Big Black Deck' for awhile.
glad im not the only 14 yr old in the comments
BBD
Pretty awesome to see those cards. My brother owned cards and I would play with him and he had many of the same cards. Fun to look back at that kind of stuff.
He's one of my favorite actors and this is icing on the cake lobe this guy he's awsome
Those plays tho that mirror universe came in clutch
He was super cocky he knew he was gonna win and with several thousands of dollars in cards he really should have! She also wasn't using atog aggressively enough if he took the damage she should have sacked all the artifacts and got lethal so...
Bruh he brought out the Mana drain deck against aatogs that is so rude XD
This was so fun to watch!
Man, just recently getting back into MTG and seeing so many cards I wish I still had... such a cool random video to come across 👍
He just let her put an unsleeved Mox in her deck and play with it. Meanwhile, the only guy I know who has Moxes freaks out if you breathe too closely to them and he would probably straight up murder you if you even thought about removing them from their sleeves.
Not to sound like a dick here but it must be said: I understand the value of the cards and understand the protection they need, but JGL just showed that the cards are meant to be played with not put on an altar like some deity. This guy you know sounds like a freak who does not at least let others appreciate his collection. I am not saying to remove them from their sleeves but at least hold them in their sleeves or be more generous in sharing. Like I said, I understand they are worth a lot, but in that case why doesn't he just get them graded? If I ever owned these cards I would use them believe it or not. In sleeves, of course, but I would want to experience how they would feel in a game.
That moment when you discover a famous celebrity that you admire is into the same hobby as you - see also Vin Diesel
I'm only 10 minutes in to this video, but I love how much Joey is geeking out.... brings me back... awesome!
This was such an awesome video!
Nice to hear he got a Big Black Deck for a while
Good for someone who is a big python fan
I wanna see Joe Manganiello vs Joey GL in Magic or both of them play D&D
or josh barnett. he mentioned he played during alpha.
hey, they could make a good jace and garruk combo!
Oh! please, we want those deck lists! amazing video
I wasn't expecting that. Pretty sweet to see some vintage stuff out. Very cool.
Shoulda sac'ed some artifacts towards the end there for the atog buffs ftw.
17:39 The Mox is showed to have 2 for its cmc is that an error or am I missing something?
May error in editing or ultra rare misprint and worth like $50,000 lol
@@brettk9316 better play it unsleeved
I don’t play mtg anymore, still have my cards. But this is invoking a lot of nostalgia and reminding me of what I love about magic. Not just the old school artwork and card style, which I adore, (the creepy crude artwork is what mtg is meant to be for me) but it was all about being creative and trying out decks that you didn’t know would work or how they’d work. I think the charm of it has been killed for me a bit with web deck building and the over the top themes and crossover stuff. Each to their own, however, for sure. This is such a lovely watch.
It’s amazing that so many actors are nerds at heart! And they play D&D and Magic the Gathering!!!
Wheres day 9!!!???????
Bro the landbase is so expensive holy shit. Not the mountains but tundras and seas my God.
The beta mountains are high af to
Awesome video. Thanks so much.
for a player from the 90s this is a pure hit of nostalgia... all of these cards that i used to play... the familiar art... Back when you would get multiple art for the same card...
I'm a simple man, I see J.G.L. I like the vid
It almost killed me to see that mox unsleeved. Also I love seeing a cheeky deck. Cheeky ones are my favorites.
I winced IRL when he unsleeved it.
It's just an unlimited ruby, everyone needs to stop freaking out. It's not a big deal. I see power everyday.
This battle was exactly what a nostalgically needed. Especially that KROQ sicker! I also had a Tim deck, but didn't have all those moxs... My older brother did though
I haven't watch this show in years, but I had to watch this flashback. I loved watching JGL pull the fortune out of his backpack. This episode was fantastic
