You can see that Josh is trying his best to not say anything. He has the patience of a saint
thank god josh was in this game to explain the rules to people
Can't believe I ever miss this episode but yeah he's like where's my sleeves lmbo
Only at miller grove😂😂
I had this thought in my head *before* I clicked the video. I was like - you better do your job Josh. EDIT: NO SLEEEEVES JOSH NOOOO. You were the chosen one! You were supposed to guide the noobs not join them!!
@@peisenxu952 Genuinely though I can tell he's being pretty respectable about not just telling them how to do a MtG video
And then to watch him misread the trigger on his Lieutenant creature!
Kyle is everywhere this week plus Josh too now
Spellslingers is also a Geek&Sundry production though, so it's not that odd.
He was on Game Knights too. Looks like the internet found out last week Kyle plays Magic.
Even though Kyle has stated he does on his own show before
#morekyle
I'm digging it ngl
I know this is an old video and there was probably a significant amount of off screen instruction, but I was really impressed by how quickly Josephine picked up the game. She was involved in quite a few fairly complicated interactions and got through it like a champ!
It is so weird watching this after watching game knights.
*torturous
Same
Pale Pants I now
Yeah....im gonna go watch game knights again
I miss the effects from game knights
Glad to see people that actually had questions. As a person that has playing on and off for years it was refreshing to see everybody was not a pro
I know everyone is pissy because they're not using sleeves, but god people, dont be such asses about your comments! On a second note, this isnt super pro tour play. Expect mistakes. Expect bad plays. Do NOT bash them for not doing the most "Efficient" thing all the time every turn. I thought magic was supposed to be fun and welcoming, not toxic and demeaning. Grow up guys.
This is the most important comment here! Usually the best play is the one that makes the game fun for you and everyone playing. If there's no money on the line, you can enjoy a drastically different type of game, especially with lots of players! Try it some time, it'll suddenly open up every single other card you never use as something you might use!
Agree, not everyone is a tourney player some are casuals (and I mean that respectfully) who play for fun and interesting combos. Enter Sharknado deck.
nobody cares about your oppion shut up
@@alexandercarrier9516Dang - come up with that one yourself after 2 whole years?
@@seanmakessound yup jut felt like that needed to be said
If you liked this and haven't seen Josh's show, Game Knights, you should check it out. It's a much better production IMO.
If u dont know game Knights, something in your life is completely wrong xD
Since they don't really know each other besides Kyle and Josh this seems too unnatural, besides there is someone just staring at them and making comments
Not better - more pro ..... This here is fun to watch and that matters ,😉
IT hurts to see an unslieved deck not to mention 4
Watching games this slow gives me anxiety
WHO DIDN'T INVITE DAY9 TO THIS!? HE LITERALLY SAID IN SPELLSLIGERS HE WANTED TO LEARN/PLAY COMMANDER!
Because it'd be too awesome if they did that
Or let him host it... he actually plays the game...
Day9 likes his graphics and conjuring effects. Plus the edited comment breaks wouldn't be do-able in this format.
@@irosencrantz882 he could host it without playing it to fill up the silence parts indeed. Talking about the cards and situations the players are in. I do agree (again lol) with you, about it being a more difficult format.
IRosencrantz game knights does it with commander. Granted it adds a lot to filming time for a commander but it is doable
When you watch Game Knights/Spellslingers and then watch stuff like this, you see how much editors matter... Nothing against this, it's just that the videos just flow better if the turns and etc, are edited...
Fujiwara 92,
I prefer a more natural feel. I like that the banter between them still flows pretty easily between them even without editing. If this were me, it would be a lot of stuttering followed by silence.
The gasps at every card get really frustrating too, it feels so fake
IRosencrantz I agree with you, in my group we banter but there are also a lot of silences... The thing in this video, that I noticed thanks to Ectoblaster, is the every second gasp/kinda banter that just makes the whole thing seem fake... In the edited videos you don't notice this cause they don't let these "air bubbles" of silence happen... So yeah, while I agree that unedited videos that pass a more natural feel are better, this video just makes me cringe almost through its full length...
That being said, I liked the match... It was fun, it just would be more fun with less gasps or more editing out the silence bubbles...
I didn't meant for this to become a manifesto, but since I'm doing nothing... 😂
I really appreciated gameknights graphics. G&S has been hurting for good production value.
Playing a completely new deck to teach others the format is interesting. Without the video cuts, the game feels more realistic, except for the table setting. The setup is not good to play the game properly. The players cannot see what others have in front of them, which limits anticipation or interactions.
Kyle is me. "Oh, I got this cool thing that's gonna be awesome soon! Oh, wait, it's gone. And the rest of my stuff is gone, too. I can't play anything. Now I'm dead."
JLK - A gentleman player. Describes what he has, what is vulnerable, shows his knowledge of the game. Then wraps it up with JLK style at the end.
JLK Gentleman player is correct. At first I thought him and Kyle would be ringers, but he explained everything to his opponents. What they had, what he had, and what that player could do to best attack him. Keeping Magic fun and allowing the junior players to learn. Total Class Act JLK.
@@fireman1294 And he shows that MTG is fun to play on many levels. As long as the players have balanced expectations, any level of play can be fun. Grab some pre-constructed decks in the same format and you will have some good games. WoTC build good pre-con decks as jumping-in points.
Going deep and building a scoop-or-win in 3 (or 2 or 1 turn) decks is also interesting for some, but not for most players.
The important factors are 1. Don't be a dick. 2. Agree on the deck power level. 3. Have fun and play MTG.
The feels bad for Kyle is really strong.
Anyone else screaming at Josh, "LOYAL GUARDIAN GIVES COUNTERS TO EACH CREATURE YOU CONTROOOL" at the screen? No? Neither did I.
I did! Every time.
I did too. And weirdly, i saw that misread multiple times already when people play the pre-con. It maay be the best of the c18 lieutanent cycle.
It turns out that people make mistakes.
I was lol
Everytime I watch it...
"you can use my life if you want" - Lightly Salted Kyle Hill
😂😂
1:07:31 Loyal Guardian was misplayed. Josh made this same mistake in one of his videos... Loyal Guardian doesn't target a single creature you control for lieutenant, it puts a counter on each creature you control.
Joshua Carder and he keeps making the mistake. At least he is consistent
Joshua Carder Yeah, a +1 +1 on a single creature would be kind of crappy
The Sharding Sphinx was also misplayed. It says "whenever an artifact creature you control" not just itself. She should have gotten way more thopters.
But mistakes like this happen all the time, especially if you play with new cards.
It wasn't the only mistake. At 19:35 Kyle play Sigil of empty throne for 4 mana, saying he spent 5, although it does look intentional.
They corrected the mistake, since soon after you can see 5 lands tapped (2 forests are piled togheter)
*he probably didn't play the land for the turn, then when they discovered the mistake he just played the land and tapped it.
Magic is awesome.... been playing for over 5 years and still loving it! So cool to watch you guys play it!
Hey, that's a pretty nice turnaround: ask in a comment two weeks ago to have Josephine guest on one of the Magic shows and now she appears! A longtime casual Magic player and also one of the best humans I know. I love seeing how much of a fight she put up against Josh too, even though she had to fend off Josh AND Trisha both nuking her stuff every turn. And with the Saheeli deck against Windgrace no less! Also got to get some info on her playstyle for when we eventually face off for a game of Commander ourselves, heh.
Yaay! Some of my favourite table toppers in a showdown!
U play unsleved u monsters Xd
At first, I thought they were using sleeves with the magic back but then i realized their cards were...naked! dun dun dunnnnnnn!
ughhhh I know, that was literally the first thing I noticed >.< I almost yelled at my screen calling them heathens
I almost turned off the video because of this. It hearts my heart
Though I agree that playing without sleeves is a crime against humanity, they doubtless took the sleeves off so as not to have 2.5"x3.5" rectangles of reflected studio lights all over the battlefield. Streaming TV production trumps card protection every time.
Right?!?!
So funny to see Josh playing so optimal even in his early turns xD
Awesome show teaching people to play edh magic ^^
"Why didn't you save your acidic slime for that thing?"Josh: "Why didn't you tell me he had that?" lolol
That was actually really fun to watch you guys play! I haven't played commander yet so this was very informative about the structure.
These series of videos got me addicted to MTG. This taught me everything I know about this game now.
Had JLK got the Saheeli deck, this would've been done in 20 minutes or less...
Obtuse Optix well good he did. Not get it
Yeah, the gameplay was slightly off... but then again, noob moves is what you'd expect from a vid this title, so it's okay.
Tbh imo he got the 2nd lowest power level deck out of the set buut windgrace has the highest power ceiling of all of them
Came for the Josh and Kyle, stayed for the Josephine and Becca
I'm just now getting into magic and bought a saheeli deck as my first ever deck. It was awesome watching it in play here! I had no idea it could be this strong!
What a smart and fun group of people. I enjoyed watching your game. Thanks.
OK so I saw it was an hour and a half long, thought well I'll just watch some of it. And Then! An hour and a half melts away, and I'm like what just happened? Great thnx guys
This episode is quite enjoyable. Watched it from start to end. A little sound effects or music would be good though :D But overall, it's great. Especially for those who want to start playing commander :)
i have watched Kyle Hill play sooo much MTG the last few days, my life has truly been blessed.
This is a great intro to people who are new to magic. Just people laughing and having a good time while experimenting with the game and learning.
I thought we know Kyle from the marvellous Thor movies
Quad Squad Zaroda
STOP....HAMMER TIME

HOWZIT!
this was a very neat gameplay, is cool to see players of different levels against each other, and what players! That is a cool roster of people to play magic with!
Happy to see a commander playthrough since I’ve never played and wanted to learn, thanks!
Spell Slingers, Game Knights, now this. Kyle is getting around lately in MTG and its great!
And its funny that Kyle is the enchantment deck this time and Josh is Windgrace which is what Kyle played in GK.
Every c18 out of the box video and even at my house the same deck wins
Super in flavor! Celebrate the 25th anniversary of Magic by revisiting a time when card sleeves haven't been invented yet
Lol
Underrated Comment
Card sleeves predate MTG.
@@waynefeller8824 proof?
baseball cards....
Thank you for the great educational video on how to play.
JOSH ! Yaay! so happy to see you on geek&Sundry as well :)
Ohh first time looking at Trish's content (except of course for those that appear in the CR breaks) when I saw this Commander thing in Spellslingers I got curious.
I hope I have a pleasant surprise, this looks fun already.
Commander is a really fun format. It’s long form usually because it’s a lot of stacking effects. If you have a lot of older MTG cards it’s a great format to play in because there’s no real standardization of cards. It’s a lot of upkeep
If you want to check out the commander format go watch some Command Zone on CZcams. The play is faster and the editing is much smoother. Also Command Zone offers a higher skill level of play.
Nooooooooo
Don't do it! Not with this set of decks. They are the worst so far!
The 2015 and 2016 sets were WAY better.
The Experience counters with Ezuri and Meren were REAL fun!
Omg josh trisha and kyle!?! So many good people.
JIMMMMMMMM!!!!!! I've missed Josephine so much! And especially when she was with Ryon Day on Co-optitude! This content is great, but bring back Co-optitude please!
Loving this completely casual game with players who are making their first steps in Commander. This is how you grow your community: by setting aside your preconceived notions about what should be done ("Oh no, they're playing without sleeves!"), and focusing on teaching the newcomers and guiding their strategic decisions.
I love how Kyle attacked Josh first and followed up by immediately saying "Yeah I know what's gonna happen" lol
Someone double check me but the attack with the sharding sphinx and its copy... wouldn't she have gotten 2 thoppters because each of the sphinx's would have triggered separately for the one that dealt damage? Or am I missing something?
Yeap. That was a missed trigger.
IIRC one of them attacked a planeswalker. It only triggers off players
Matthew Whitney yeah but she had two of them. The both say "when a creature damages a player" so she actually should have gotten 2 for each creature that damages... Or is there a different trigger I'm missing?
Yes, only one attacked a planeswalker, but there were two on the board, so two triggers of the ability would occur. Because the card says "when an artifact creature..." not "when this creature..."
Anonypoke ah, gotcha
This was so much fun to watch. A great host and great guests. Well played all
Please please please more of this somewhere on Geek & Sundry!!
The blonde guy with the long hair from the science show is getting into a lot of Magic videos suddenly.
Thor certainly is
And alot of marvel movies
Text book pandering
Makes you wonder who he knows doesn't it?
You mean Kyle hill
why are none of the nerds i play with this attractive?
because your on the wrong place maybe ;)
Forced sounds so wrong atm xD
henswi89 ass to mouth....
Haha just playing in the wrong places I guess. I have physically attractive and unattractive (in my opinion of course not like it matters they are still cool people that I like to hang out with) that play magic and are into other geeky and nerdy things I'm into.
This is a slow pace for what game knights is. I do like this. So it shows the conversation in between turns which i like on the plus side
Finally some more Kyle hill content from someone else’s channel. My favorite.
I'm not familiar with Josephine ... but holy moly ... Josh Lee Kwai, Voidy Boi, and Trisha?! They said Infinity War was the most ambitious crossover, but this is definitely up there!
Haven't seen Trisha since SourceFed, so it was really great to see her around again. :)
Taking out Kyle was a mistake. The allure of taking out a player is worth it if you're winning packs for each player you kill, but in a game like this you're giving the Saheeli player more time to establish an overwhelming board state.
Not knowing her hand there legit is nothing but slightly affecting the sahilli player, but being able to take out one less problem early can be worth it if your deck isn’t dealt to deal with enchantments “Ehm... esper”
Loved this match. 👍👍
Love this episode
That is one question you never want to hear your opponent say in any game of magic, "How much life do you have?"
I never thought I'd say this...but I miss Will Wheaton hosting tabletop on G&S versus this tabletop series. :(
Sweeeeet! So much HYPE to see a fellow Commander content creator featured in a G&S Commander video!
Yes that what i love this youtube channel thank you.
That moment when josh is shuffling unsleeved cards and looks beyond awkward doing jt
That's a good way to make videos, invite more people from MTG community :)
Do more of this colab with games knights because I love both josh lee Kwai and geek and sundry plz
I want to play with you. haha ... Wonderful Canal. I do not lose any video !! I love Commander
Floop the 🐖
Adventure Time fans know what I'm talking about
Poor Kyle. I mean, Trish did get the final blow on him...but I think she should have taken out a planeswalker instead: a mana-screwed player with no permanents versus taking out the mana-ramp or artifact-ramp engine. A third living (if crippled) player would have possibly kept Josh's deck from going off.
Also, does anyone know what the end game of the fate shifter deck is? It seems like it's got control and boardwipes, but only a few easily mitigated bombs.
This group of people seems so much fun to play with!
This video was very useful for new players.
TRISHA!!!! SourceFed veteran in the House!
Missing sourcefed still
Eric Cipolla I literally heard her voice and then went straight to the comments to see if it was her lol (first time watching this channel)
For a show called How to Play Magic, the host seems to know nothing and none of the mechanics or synergies were explained as well as they could have.
to her defense, I think that was why they had her only host. Josh and Kyle, two veterans, were present so she could encourage them to talk more about the cards and their synergies. I do think she did well with getting them to talk constantly
Where day9 when you need him
that works best for viewers who don't know the game. Her questions are the newcomers questions.
Nex Gen she’s so hott idc
@@seasnek7024 Sean doesn't play Commander, though.
I hope to see Kyle more often on game knights n spell slingers speaking of which that game knights new episode was amazing
How have I not seen this!!
Josh and Kyle look super uncomfortable
Probably because they are surrounded by three beautiful ladies. I for one would be the same if I was lucky enough to be in the same position.
Misplay of the game: chump-blocking with Magus of the Balance tsk.
Did you see Josh's smile after she did that. Like yessss the one card that will ruin my board. Lol
i am really struggeling to enjoy these videos, the players are sympathetic but from the point of someone who played the game for 20 years its quite painful to watch at times.
Also Josh misread lieutenant card it says each creature not one creature he would of won alot sooner
Give us more of this! :D
so cool!!!
SHISHA!!!!!!!!
1:24:45 gg nice game was lot of fun to watch :D
For anyone wanting to play commander outside of your LGS there's a game on steam called tabletop simulator with a pretty big and active EDH scene.
My god, JLK face in this video is amazingly funny, and I bet he's always looking at Kyle thinking 'this sucks". He's face after playing a turn 1 tapped gain land lol.
Who else though: Well, go for the throat can't kill sharding sphinx
?
Don’t think she knows that’s actually a card lol
How sad getting taken out right at the startish of a 40 life game of commander. i had high hopes for kyle. That was very rude move. But i get it take out 1 player asap.
Well played Blance and Grudge!! Nice Game
TRISHA!!!! I HAVE MISSED YOU! Also, I just finished watching the latest Commander Zone video with involves these same decks, so I have a rough idea how the game will go
MOR EDH
Becca is being cute putting counters and colorful dice to ppl so happily
Entertaining, keep up the good work
When is Day9 going to be on here, or have I missed that episode?
Kyle: "Shayman"
Kyle... No...
lmao
this is my favorite comment here
I was almost traumatized when he said that.. :'(
Loyal Guardian puts a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control, not just one creature.
I’m so happy josh is on this
Are the pre made commander decks strong? Or is it better to make your own deck? And are there new commander decks available anytime soon?
new commander precons just came out a month ago, the precons are mildly focused and are good to start on. Just don't expect to be up to snuff for the rest of the tuned decks at the table
Poor Kyle. Lol, "looks like a fun game".
Triggered because of sleeveless cards
The decks are basically trash anyway.. >:P
You get sleeves with a matte front if that really is a issue, but I mean there are many commander channels like Command Zone which Josh if from, and they don't have any issues with sleeves
There mass produced commander decks. No custom cards. No reason to sleeve them at all actually.
They’re a bit more formal, more courteous to each other than in the command zone. Like Capt. America is somewhere behind the scene waiting to say “language!” . But fun. Personally, I like Josh and Kyles dEcks, but ninjas are always been interesting since the Kamugawa block.😁👍🏻
Why none of you mentioned, that you could use the lands/commandersphere for Mana before sac/bounce. That's important
Leave comander to jimmy and josh
Nathan Heming you can't even spell commander!
@@kristianduncan3904 i was exausted when i wrote that
I'm sorry.....and I was grumpy after reading all these comments lol
its ok im just a big fan of the comand zone and of jimmy and josh
My biggest gripe with this video is how f’n wide that table is. Who needs to be able to see their opponents cards?!
Also how does the host know less about the game being played than the target audience?
Graham Warwick I’m so happy you said something about that table. The set up might be aesthetically pleasing on camera but totally stupid for playing a group game.
Graham Warwick I do agree, the table was annoying.
The target audience is beginners, so the host probably actually knows more. In any case, her role was clearly to be the MC, while they had two extremely experienced players there to provide the expertise. It makes a lot of sense to have the MC be less experienced to help a new player have someone to connect to.
And the wide table may not be idea for play but it is the setup they usually have on this channel and it makes it a better viewing experience since you can have all participants facing the audience in one shot.
I think there was a misplay at 47:30 when the card that cared about how many Artifacts were in play went down in toughness shouldn’t it have died because there was 6 damage marked onto it?
Randome question, what direction do you tap mana, creatures, etc.
