    Double strike may not always hit twice.
    If it is blocked by another creature with first strike and it dies during that phase, then it will not apply the 2nd attack.

    Bear in mind that Deathtouch applies to *all* damage dealt by the creature. This means that if you have a way to deal chip damage outside of battle such as by way of an equip or enchantment, or you put Deathtouch on a creature with an ability that does it, then the opponent's creature will still die due to Deathtouch. Do note though that the ability must state that the creature itself deals the damage, not just that damage is dealt

      @noctusdoesthings Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@steffanreichenbach3124 Deathtouch applies to any damage dealt by the creature.
      Deathtouch happens when the creature...
      -blocks another creature
      -is blocked by another creature
      -deals direct damage to another creature though an effect such as "Tap: this creature deals 1 damage to target creature"

      @clamder11 Před 2 lety

      Hi I'm learning mtg. Does this mean that first strike's damage turn negates deathtouch? Does death touch count as standard combat turn that gets skipped if the first strike eliminates the target?

    • @jonathandevereaux298
      @jonathandevereaux298 Před rokem +1

      @@clamder11 you've probably learned since asking but with first strike and double strike you need to imagine a separate attacking phase has been created. A creature with death touch can only use it against the first attack of double strike or against first strike in defense if the creature also has one of those.
      Example would be if you have a 1/1 with double strike attacking a 2/2 with only death touch. The first 1 damage would hit and the 2/2 wouldn't attack in that new phase but the second strike takes place in the main attack phase so the death touch will apply.

      Delve is an ability that effects how the creature is brought into play. A super busted mechanic imo, it's too powerful to be able to exile from the graveyard instead of pay mana costs lol I don't think it's considered legal in standard play anymore.

If your creature with first strike does not kill the creature the 1st time, the main battle phase takes place where both creatures are now attacking and blocking. You said the same for double, so wouldn’t double strike add another damage phase after first strike and before main combat phase??????

      @JacksonOwex Před 3 lety

      @@olafjurek2137 It does NOT!!! Or should NOT, there have been MANY iffy rulings over the years and I have been out of the MTG loop for awhile! Hexproof just keeps your opponents from being able to TARGET your creature with things like SHOCK or HALL MONITOR(I think it's called). Shock deals damage to TARGET creature and Hall Monitor can be used to prevent TARGET creature from blocking.
      HOWEVER, and I'm not really sure how much it is used now that there is Hexproof, PROTECTION from a color, from just damage(Pretty sure there is ACTUALLY a creature that just had protection from damage, might have been an Unhinged or similar spoof card though), or from creatures or creature types WOULD as long as the Deathtouch came from whatever you have protection from!
      Again though, I could be wrong! The governing bodies have always like to make rulings that made ZERO sense! There used to be a whole back and forth about "coming into play"(payed mana cost for) and "PUTTING into play"(used another thing to bring it back) that was REALLY REALLY dumb and no one could ever remember what the ruling was!

    9. Deathtouch
    10. Reach
    11. Menace

    Its cool that your explaining the core bascis of the game was looking for a video for people on my discord who are new but i feel like not only did u use the wrong terminology (which is ok) but whats not ok is how disorganized the video feels
    Not trying to be rude sorry if i was. Just next time write a script or something.
