There you go...the unreliability issue of the Land rover is out the window. Lol. Ladies and gentlemen presenting you the perfect off roader.. The Land Crover.
My dad has done this exact same engine conversion with his A reg land rover defender, it's an awesome machine. He used the land cruiser gearbox and had a prop shaft made with land cruiser flanges on one end and land rover axle flanges on the other end. He did a mint job of it. yours looks awesome too.
Jack Lancashire I would love to do that to get the experience and thrill of both worlds landy n cruiser as I have a defender shell n at my store 1HDT complete is just lying around kindly send me all the tech support and pros n cons so I can started the project n explore mama Africa
Finally it gets the engine it deserves! Land Rover always put small diesels in the Defender due to tax laws in the UK. But with such a huge export market why didn't they look at what the competition were providing?
Tax laws in the UK, whilst they used to be limited to engine size, the Defender always fell into the highest category (1,600cc and over). The other category was under 1,600cc. Then it became based on emissions. Again the Defender always fell into the highest category. The real reason was the Tdi etc. were derivatives of the 2.0 diesel that came out in 1957, and as always the bare minimum of changes were done. It was basically down to money, or rather the lack of it. Also, Land Rover's largest area for sales is Europe and the USA, and recently China. Poor sales in Africa and Asia in general was more down to lack of parts availability and general reliability, and an overpriced product.
Hey bud i got a 200 n a300 tdi defender n mrs has a 300tdi as well they go everywhere and have had no probs in fact my 300 tdi i use on the rig for hunting has almost 600 km on it and last year i split the plastic expansion tank coming home from bush trip, lost all the coolant temp digital temp gauge went to 142 degrees , kept filling with water until we reached civilisation . Have since put an aluminim tank on and walla she still purrs no engine or head damage at all. All i can say is BULLET PROOF

if land rover built there defenders with these engines would of been a good seller or even the Isuzu 4bd1t engine , as there puma engines are crap as with all the land rover engines
The 4BD1 engine is the perfect conversion for a Defender as all the parts are available due to the Australian Defender's using the the Isuzu engine. Solid engine too.
@@carholic-sz3qv i read in the defender forum, he didnt get what he want from engine swap. the daniel tibus seems mis assumed with 1hdfte performance. Its low rpm high torque engine but smoother than diesel truck engine, not power house like modern commonrail diesel or v8 america
Land Rover can build decent body and interior of SUV but engines definitely no( should seek advice from Toyota on how to build quality engines) land Rover do not know what good engine means. In the Dominican republic people have bought brand new land rovers and swap their engines for Toyota engines. When a manufacturer makes a choice of putting out garbage what r you supposed to do sit down and take it.

Robert, I grew up loving Land Rovers, Range Rovers and all British cars. I now drive a Toyota LandCruiser. Nothing and I mean nothing comes close the the engineering of LandCruisers. I wish it wasn't true but it is. The engine in the video is a LandCruiser engine, all you have to do is change the oil and belts and it will do a million miles.
