- I try to find out how a Land Cruiser is built differently than a Land Rover Defender. This episode looks the engine design and performance, as well as turbos. Filmed in Malawi.

1hz is indirect injection
Thanks!
Landcruiser gearbox and transfer case is working on Defender-110 TD5 front and rear axles? Thanks
@@sdalai2131 I think you were trying to ask if you can fit a Land Cruiser gearbox and engine into a Defender.
It has been done.
The trick is to weld a Toyota flange onto the prop-shafts at the gearbox end.
Best diesel ever made. Completely blows any Land Rover out of the water.
I own both 1hz barley gets up a hill but I love the td5 in my discovery more power more capable but more problems
Good video, point of order is yes there is room for a turbo this engine is not designed for one. After market “ soft” turbos can ( generally ) be fitted, as far as I know they don’t put too much strain on the components affecting longevity. I have a Landcruiser 80 ( with turbo) and a Disco 300tdi, I love them both, similar setup on each, ( suspension, tyres intercoolers etc,) Both have performed extremely well.
I guessed right, your in Africa. I notice the Jacaranda trees and the buildings. I haven't been to Malawi since 1991. What a great country and people. Nice video, I love the 1HZ.
Where can i get the rest of your videos? They are excellent!. I could only access up to 6/14?
I'm a bit behind with editing the rest :D Subscribe and you'll get notified when I get round to it, hopefully soon.
Land Rover Expedition I recon get cracking mate 😜
1HZ🇯🇵💪💪💪👍👍🎥👍
Coming back to watch this again in lockdown.
I think I just want to see a bit of Africa again!
Regarding the turbo, it is possible to bolt a small turbo onto the 1HZ without causing too many problems,
just a word of caution, the Turbo versions of this engine 1HD-T, 1HD-FT and 1HD-FTE all have upgraded pistons and con rods that have an oil passage way in order to cool the underside of the pistons.
If you put too much boost into a 1HZ, you will cook the pistons.
Yes it’s very possible and lots of the bigger safari wagons here in Kenya have them fitted , however they are running at much lower boost levels than the standard turbo charged siblings so they don’t need all the internals upgraded .
Cool the head actually because these are indirect injection. When you add a turbo the pre combustion chamber gets to hot and cracks the head
🎥👍👍
Manufacturers make engines like neither of these these days as they work for more than five years
I wonder how many LR’s are out there with over 1 Million KMS on the clock ?
A lot
I wish Toyota could make Land Rovers.
That would be the ultimate
