- Old Syrian Church, Chengannur was built about 1650 years ago. The structure of the church building certifies that it is very very old. The story is that long ago a hermit priest came to Chengannur and began a worship place at this spot.
Till AD 1580, Nazranis and Knanaya people were worshipping together in this church. Then the Knanaya people who escaped the persecution in Cochin and surrounding area, also joined with those at Chengannur. Later the Knanaya people had built their own church and moved out.[1] During reformation two groups were formed in the Malankara Church. These two factions quarreled in this church and there was a court case. Now the Chengannur Pazhaya Pally is co-owned by the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church and the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church.[2]

ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാരുടെ വരവോട് എത്തിയ ക്ലോഡിയസ് ബുക്കാനൻ ആദ്യമായി സന്ദർശിച്ച പള്ളി ചെങ്ങന്നൂർ പള്ളിയാണെന്ന് തന്റെ യാത്രാവിവരണത്തിൽ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു. വിശുദ്ധ ബൈബിളിന്റെ ദൌർലഭ്യം അവിടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്ന രണ്ടു പട്ടക്കാർ പ്രത്യേകം പറയുന്നുണ്ട്. അച്ചടിയന്ത്രത്തിന്റെ തുടർന്നുള്ള വരവ് വിപ്ലവകരമായ മാറ്റങ്ങൾ ഇവിടെ സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു.

This is how history is manufactured. All the christian churches in Kerala have been started around 9th century and beyond only. So when people say a particular church was built in 100 AD or 350 AD as in this case , unknowingly they are saying that it was built in Kollavarsham 100 ( or 925 AD) or Kollavarsham 350 ( or 1175 AD). In those days Kerala people used Kollavarsham calendar and not the Gregorian calendar and hence this confusion ! I hope people will be careful in narrating their history ! So this mythology of St. Thomas converting Nambuthiris in 52 AD and setting up 7 1/2 churches and the non existent Knanya migration in 345 AD and the churches they built around that period are all old grandma stories only. Nambuthiris started coming to Kerala by around 6th century AD only and their settlements started building up by 8th AD century only according to most of the Kerala historians ! There is no proof what so ever for the Knanaya migration either !
You get proof.... In 52 AD or first century kerala have jewsish (jew) population.... St Thomas came for lost tribe of Israeli (jew).... Syrian christian ancestors are jew first chritaian is jew syrian christian latter they started conversion mainly porques (🇵🇹) you can find real syrian christian by family name
